Atria Center City was clean and very nice. If you want to live in Center City, it would have to be costly. It's an older-looking facility, but if you like living in downtown Philadelphia, that's the place to be. It's convenient to the Franklin Institute, the library, and the cultural things in Center City. Everything is within walking distance. The amenities were very nice, but we wanted a little bit more flexibility for ourselves. Like we don't want to be encouraged to use the dining room, which was what it seemed to be, so we didn't have a choice to do our own cooking. We had to use the dining room for dinner. The staff gave us a thorough tour. I thought it was adequate and they were very polite.

We had an excellent tour at Atria Center City. They had a great location right in the Center City and there's underground parking available. The rooms were very nice and the residents were very encouraging. They seemed to be happy with their surroundings and encouraged us to move there as well. The bistro area downstairs and the coffee shop were nice. We had dessert and it was good.

I visited Atria Center City in person. It was great. They had everything that is needed. They had a library. They had a restaurant. They had food, and they had cleaning. There was nothing I didn't like about it. They had different levels that I could choose from. The staff was all very helpful, smiling, willing to help, and willing to give their service. I didn't try the food, but they gave me a cheesecake to take home. I thought it was really good. It was great. I didn't try the food, but I saw a little bit how it was prepared. I saw others eating, and it looked look delicious. The facility was great. They had a gym, and they had a salon. They had a library; I loved the library. They had a lounge area on all of the different floors. There was just so much to do on each floor that nobody could get bored. They had an arts and crafts area.

My father is in Atria Center City. It's nice. The staff is pretty attentive, and they follow up. So far, so good. He didn't have a very good appetite, but now he's eating a little better. I guess I could attribute that to the food being pretty good. The room is very comfortable and very accommodating for his needs. They have movie nights. My dad likes jazz, and they had a jazz event one time there. They do games. It seems like they have quite a few things that they can choose from. They have a barber for the men and a place for women to get their hair done. I remember a library. There is a private bench with a bistro with a bar for the people in the general population (not in the place for people with dementia). There's transportation to get them to and from certain places. They had something like an observatory, where you can go out and it's enclosed. You can kind of see most of the city. It's a really nice facility. It's very attractive and seemed to be safe and caring.

Provider Response

Hello Antoninnenette, It's been our pleasure to welcome your father to our community. Your feedback is so important to us, so thank you for sharing your experience. Thank you for choosing Atria!

We were working with Atria Center City and my aunt got evaluated and everything. They had gone out to see her, and she was OK/approved to go to Atria, but at the last minute we couldn't convince her to go. She wants to return home. Atria was the best one we found that was centrally located for my nephew and myself for visiting reasons. My mother had previously been a resident there some years ago and I did visit. The staff gave me a tour because they had recently renovated and everything, and he wanted me to see that. I had a pleasant experience. It was a very nice tour. There were so many good things. They had all of the services that you would be looking for, for your loved one to be sufficiently taken care of in stages. If she needed more care, the services were there for her to progress on to that. It was a very nice environment. They had all kinds of arts and crafts for them. They had a beautiful rooftop terrace for them to go to, a bistro for them if they needed snacks, and a beautiful cafeteria. Most of all, they still had a lot of recreational provisions for them. They had independent living also, but I was looking for assisted living. My mother enjoyed her time there while she was living. The staff was great. They still had meetings every month for the individual residents, and if they had any complaints, they would forward it. They would let anyone know, and that's what I liked about it. The ones that were very verbal would be able to list any complaints if they had them. They were given free rein for that also. The food was excellent. Maintenance and cleanliness wise, from the previous experience, there was no problem with my mother. They took them on trips to plays, museums, stores, and little outings, and arts and crafts. They also had great entertainment for them. People would come in for entertainment, and the ones that could dance were dancing. They had a little bar there in the evenings for happy hour. Little drinks were provided, wine, Coca-Cola, or whatever.

Atria Center City was amazing. The facility was really nice as far as the furnishings, the paintings, the food offerings, and the programs. The staff was great as well. The food was tasty. The dining room was well-appointed. It's a nice dining room. It's traditional luxury furnished, but the apartments are much larger. They have an art gallery, a movie room, programs every day, games, and music probably once a week.

We went to Atria Center City, and my daughter liked it very much. It's extremely modern, it had been redone just a few years ago. They gave us a cake that was very good. It was so close to where I live, but it was too expensive, it was at least $2,000 more than the other two places we went to. I wasn't really fond of the administrator, it's like he was really slick and wearing an MBA badge or something. The building was very beautiful, everything was clean, and it was very ultra modern.

Atria Center City looks like it would be a nice place to live. I like the theater, the library, and everything. The staff seems nice and they also have activities to do. It's located right downtown. There are all the museums and everything that's down there.

I chose Atria Center City for my mother because their cost is reasonable, and the studio apartment that she has is very roomy. It's in a good location, in the center city of Philadelphia. The staff is very helpful and they've been very good in helping her. She has not had a complaint about the food, but she's had a recent event that has caused her to have a modified diet, and Atria does not do modified diets. They have activities but she doesn't do a whole lot there because of COVID. You're kinda limited in moving around the facility. We got what we paid for.

Of all the communities we saw, Atria Center City was one of the best places. The location was great, and downtown Philadelphia doesn't have a whole lot of parking but they have parking under the building which was good. The whole place was immaculate, it was very clean, and the staff was professional. Their dining room looked like a 5-star restaurant. When you first walked in it was beautiful, and the gentleman who gave us the tour was very knowledgeable on what the place had to offer. The rooms were beautiful, they had gorgeous little shadow boxes outside each room where they could display what the residents represented during their lifetime. They knew we were coming, so they made us a cake which was really sweet. The menu was amazing for that day, we saw the menu on the wall, they actually had fillet mignon for dinner and they had eclairs. They're one of the higher-end ones price-wise but you get what you pay for. In the memory care center, we noticed that even though the process of putting a loved one in a home is depressing, in Atria Center City everyone was exuberant and happy. They have about 150 something residents, but they only had about 20 in the memory center. And they were all sitting watching television and enjoying conversation when we walked in, and they talked to us. Nobody seemed depressed to be there, and that was very nice.

Provider Response

Virginia, Thanks for visiting us at Atria Center City! We take pride in the quality service we provide each day. Looking forward to seeing your family again soon.

Atria Center City is excellent, the rooms were absolutely gorgeous, and if I had the money, I would move there in a jiffy. The monthly rent is too high. It looked like they had a pretty full social agenda there. The dining area and the food are excellent, and I loved the location. If you're a cultural and social person it's an excellent place to be.

Most residents at Atria Center City have significant cognitive decline, and I am not interested in that, but it's a wonderful location. The rooms range from studios to two-bedroom apartments, which I'm interested in, but they're quite expensive. The marketing person was very polite and understood my situation. They just completed remodeling it, so everything looks brand new. It's undergone an extensive renovation. If they're looking for a place that will provide an opportunity for meaningful conversation with other residents, don't go to the Atria because most of the people have serious cognitive decline issues. It has a marble lobby, which I certainly don't understand why anyone would put in marble in the part of the building that everybody passes through on a daily basis when most older people are using walkers, canes, and wheelchairs. It vastly increases the possibility of an injury by having a marble floor.

I just loved Atria Center City. It's spotless, the people were courteous, and whatever questions we asked, they answered honestly. They were just on-point. I liked the atmosphere. It was clean, clear, and everything was fine. They have activities. The cafeteria was clean and they had a decent selection of food. I loved the place. It was great and I might end up there. It was in a great location. It was also worth the cost.

Atria Center City was under construction, but the parts that were finished were beautiful. I thought the staff was very good and very friendly; even the people who weren't part of the tour would greet us. The residents all had glowing reports about the space and had no clue who we were and why we were touring. I was impressed. I observed the dining area, the laundry facility, the physical therapy area, the exercise area, and some of the crafting activities. They had a large dining area and a smaller cafe area where they do happy hour every Friday night. It was well laid out and well thought out.

I visited Atria Center City. Their rooms were very nice, and I also saw the common areas and the area they were remodeling for more dining services that they were going to provide. The place was beautiful; it looked like a cruise ship. They gave me a peanut butter-chocolate pie or mousse of some sort, and it was great. The staff was very nice, and they seemed very professional.

Atria Center City is in the process of being thoroughly renovated, so there was a lot of clanging, banging, and building going on. It has an advantage in that it’s a rental, so you don’t have to buy in or give them a chunk of money that you never get back. However, I wouldn’t consider going there.

Provider Response

Hi, Lynn. Thank you for visiting our community. I understand renovations can be a temporary inconvenience. We're very excited to open our new, state-of-the-art salon and wellness center, and to reveal many of the upgrades we've made to the community. We hope you'll visit again soon, when all our enhancements are complete.

Used to be a lot better - but now with renovations happening, staff and residents are both being compromised. No longer worth the large price tag and watch closely for billing and verbal agreements.

Provider Response

Thanks for reaching out and for being a part of the Atria family. I understand renovations can be a temporary disruption to the community, and we're looking forward to completing all of our updates, including a state of the art beauty salon and wellness center. If you'd like to discuss your concerns or the progress of the renovation, I encourage you to reach out to our Executive Director.

Atria Center City is gorgeous. Appearance-wise, it is very state-of-the-art, very classy, very spacious, and the location is good. Their dining facility was just like a restaurant. It feels like you are living in a hotel. They had those small bar areas, and they would have Happy Hour for those residents that can drink alcohol. They had a lot of activities. They had a bus that would take them around the city if they wanted to go to places like Target or Walmart. Maybe they could use more staffing because it’s a very large place. My dad had more health issues here.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am at Atria Center City, a very lovely senior living facility that's been here for about 16 years in operation, and it's thoroughly supportive of my independence. It provides me with a variety of levels of support if I need them, which I haven't needed during my period of recovery from surgery. The staff is extremely gracious and accommodating. There are so many activities and a very lovely dining area. They have three meals with a great variety of well-prepared and nutritionally balanced food every single day.

Atria Center City is centrally located. It’s in a funny building, but it’s a lovely facility. On the inside, each of the residential floors look pretty similar and it’s a little confusing to get around, but they have lovely décor, nice and modern. The people in the facility seemed to be having a very nice, pleasant, low key day. Everybody was very friendly and very nice. We had a cup of tea in the restaurant, and it was very nice. It was the most connected to the outside community. It seemed like a very active community.

So far, Atria is a fine facility for my parent. The living environment there is good. They have restaurant-style dining and good food. Their dining room is great. Their activities are good too. They have exercise, movies, guest speakers, and music. So far, the staff is good. What could improve on though is coordination or communication among themselves.

I visited Atria Center and had lunch there. The food is okay. The entrance is right on the sidewalk, so when you come out the front door you stood right on the sidewalk and you got people sitting on wheel chairs and smoking. I was not impressed with the way the place and the rooms are set up and they don't allow pets. The staff seemed to be friendly but they did not seem to try very hard to present the place in the best possible light.

I am a friend or relative of resident

As a relative of a resident at the Atria, I have spent a lot of time there, slept there eaten there, enjoyed time with other residents & staff. My relative who has very high standards, led a privileged, cultured life, had a beautiful house she didn't want to leave LOVES her spacious magnificent apartment. The management could not not be more caring. The maintenance dept is stellar. They know all the residents' by name & help them with personal tasks in their apts with a smile. One of the reasons I chose the Atria was the friendly caring staff. They don't get better. The dining room (which is open all day inbetween meals) is spacious & bright with windows facing Logan Circle fountain, Moore College of Art & the Franklin Institute is amazingly wonderful. Oh, & btw, all the of the wait staff know everyone by name & know their food preferences. Just about anything you want to eat is available for the asking. The park is across the street, feet away from the Atria door. Fabulous museums are in walking distance or the Atria Van is available for rides all day for pleasure as well as medical apts. I never thought it possible for my relative to be so very pleased. Not having the graduated care program was an issue but her Dr & I decided that quality of life was more important & that when the time comes we'll hire a nurse or aid if necessary. The thing is, the resident can stay in her familiar apt & continue to have meals in the same dining room, attend the concerts & activities & not have to be disoriented. So, as you can see, I recommend the Atria very highly for anyone making a transition.

Atria seem very nice, so I don't have anything negative to say. The food was very good, we had lunch there, and we saw a couple of apartments. It was clean and the price was pretty reasonable for the city of Philadelphia. They didn't do nursing care and didn't have much way of extended care options, so you have to hire out.

From what I have talked to the relatives, I have heard nothing but good things. Some of the Dept. Heads really do care and strive to deliver excellent resident satisfaction, the sales, nursing and especially Memory care Directors really work hard and will do whatever it takes to make sure the residents are pleased.Getting to know the residents and enjoying what i do to keep them satisfied everyday, and this being their last experience in life before them move on to the next phase in their lifes. And because someday i will be a senior and would love to have the experience that the staff give them and I could be given the same respect and love that is shown daily within the entire staff at Atria senior living group. There is so many different things to do there. No one can be bored or be left out!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

In April 2005, I put a family member in Sterling Glen of Center City Philadelphia. (In 2009, it sold to Atria and is now Atria Center City Philadelphia.) From the beginning, the service was below par and management showed no interest in correcting the problems. I was paying for medication management"”that is, medication is to be distributed to the resident and administered. However, on numerous occasions I found the medication sitting on the kitchen counter. Complaints to management fell on deaf ears. Inspection by the licensing agency, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, revealed that the records had been falsified to indicate the medication had been administered. I was even told by the Director of Wellness that an unauthorized aide was distributing the medication. This is against the law. After several vehement complaints, the problem seems to be corrected. However, there have been other problems"”huge instability in management. One Executive Director stayed for only six months. Residents went for almost a year without leadership. There have been several changes in the Director of Wellness over the past three years. Some were fired; some ran out in horror because of the futility of trying to improve the department. Many employees are not trained properly. Many are incompetent; many do not take the initiative to report problems that need to be corrected. Many are rude and dishonest. Yet, they are allowed to continue working there. Some employees have been hired without criminal or educational background checks. Repairs are not made and there are safety and security violations. Residents do not get the services they are charged for. To add insult to injury, the rent keeps increasing and last year there was an 8% rent increase. It was unconscionable. This increase was disproportionate to the increase in the cost of living and out of sync with the below par services"”costs are high, service low. Atria's goal is to make money for its investors; not to give quality care to those who pay for it. This is not a state of the art facility; it is not recommended. But, the building is beautiful.
