I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My parents were about the first to move into the manor. Throughout Mom’s 34 year residence in 4 of the communities from independent to assisted to skilled, we were very pleased with the care and support given. Great opportunities for activities, making friends, and having input into the running of the “empire”! Since mom passed I am still on communication with staff members. Renovations to apartments and common areas are an ongoing thing keeping the buildings fresh and new. Mom was on several committees for feedback on several aspects of running WV. She was even asked to lead an art project in her 90’s. When my parents moved in people were allowed to bring existing pets but not get new ones. This is a facility run by people with open minds and they soon realized that pets are the world to seniors. Now the even have a dog park. Imagine what else the have.

I visited this facility

We visited Willow Valley in June 2017 and again in mid April 2018. We ate with different residents in Lakes for breakfast twice and dinner in Lakes & Manor. The residents answered multiple questions and offered much information. As contrast to a previous reviewer, tables in each dining room had white table cloths at each meal and the food was very good. We have been looking for such a place to live/ Our sales rep was incredibly helpful and showed us several different apartments in our price range. We chose a 2-bedroom apartment in Manor that was larger than expected and quite lovely. There are numerous sizes & layout variations in each of the apartments depending upon what one's needs are. Wherever we went, including to a local church where we were not known, people reported that residents at Willow Valley are Happy! That was our experience in our two weekends there.

My great grandfather lived here for many years, about 40! And I have seen SO MANY downgrades in this! The staff, dinner, service, almost everything! So, he couldn't wash himself anymore so he was moved to a different house. He fell a couple times and they didn't do anything, they just called my Grandma, and said he fell. Like, why wouldn't you do something? I went to visit him with my whole family, and he was in a wheel chair, which he was never in one, had bruises and wounds on his head and other body parts. I cried for at least 20 minutes just looking at him. It was so sad to see him like that, then a couple days later he passed away. I blame this all on the place, their awful service, and immature workers! I would never recommend this to any family, I think they need everything new! -Nick

Make no mistake, when you look past the pretty exterior this is a large institution in the business to make money. My parents have lived here for close to 20 years and I have seen some significant down grades. For instance; no tablecloths, no fresh flowers in the dining rooms, quality of food and selections are cheaper and smaller, minimum caregivers allowed by law in the Glen, the ongoing renovations seem to be of lesser quality and the outside flowers, trees and shrubs are not of the same high quality as they were in the past. To bad this is a case of a community resting on a reputation it had in the past. Because of the size of this institution it is next to impossible to get anyone in a position of power to listen to your concerns. This type of community has value for your dollar and a nice group of residents. Many of the caregivers are good and caring employees. Make sure you have a legal health care advocate and or POA. My many years of dealing with employees and management at the Glen has taught me this needs to be a top priority.

At Willow Valley, people were a little younger and a little more active. They have a little more to offer with mental stimulation in particular, but it's far away in a very busy area. Lancaster is pretty busy in terms of traffic. It's a full continuing care community with many different options for living. It's become a 55+, so there are younger people there, which can be nice. The people I met were still doing a lot and traveling. I really liked the extent of their activities, like pools and gyms, foreign affairs clubs and book clubs. The people I met were very informative. I know one person there who is happy. The tour person was certainly informative. We had a little experience with the food and heard great things about it. It looked exceptional. The only negatives were it's a very large complex in a busy area, but you can take advantage of the theater in town and all the art.

Willow Valley Communities is a huge place. My brother has a beautiful apartment. They have bowling, a theater, and all kinds of classes. The whole place is beautiful. They have town homes and big buildings with 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. They have several kinds of beautiful dining rooms. They have a post office there, a bank, a grocery store, woodworking, swimming, and a gym. They have one section on one side of the road and another section on the other side because it's just so big. My sister-in-law is in the assisted living side, and she has 2 rooms. One is a living room and the other one is the bedroom. They take care of you right up to the end.

The rooms and apartments were fabulous at Willow Valley. The dining area was probably the best restaurant I have ever been in. They absolutely had everything you could ever want.

Willow Valley was beautiful and very nice. However, I didn't get the feeling that they care as much about your quality of life. If you run out of money, they would downsize you. The facility was really nice. It has a beautiful pool and nice amenities. They have flowers planted all over the place, and it is really huge.

Willow Valley was my all-time favourite. We stayed there overnight, and we got meals there and talked to people. If I could go there that would be my number one choice, but that one is a little beyond my financial needs. The staff was straight forward.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My parents are in Manor North and have been there for 20 years. They are depression kids and have a life view much different than mine - also they lived in a much different world. They are 90 and still living independently although many of their activities have been reduced or dropped due to mobility. There have been many changes the last few years as the facility is shifted to attract the boomers who want a different experience. Many of the residents are not happy with the more modern looks, missing what my parents call homey decorations. Change is inevitable but difficult for many to adjust. I personally like the more open and bright decor. Every 10 years there are major changes to keep the place relevant for the next generation. Each resident gets their apartment renovated should they chose. That includes a complete makeover to their choice. I have always had great interactions with the staff and they are very patient with the residents - as they can be VERY challenging. Like all businesses staff run the gamut of exceptional to above average. I am on the west coast and sister is in central america so we are happy that our parents are in a caring place with people they like. It is not for me but understand that many really like the adult living experience.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Aunt lived at Willow Valley Retirement Communities for more than 25 years. She lived happily & independently at the Lakes and then moved to Supportive Living at the Glen. Unfortunately our experiences at the Glen have been very difficult. The best summary is that management is disconnected from the families and it seems they are in a power struggle sometimes exerting their powers in threatening ways. My aunt passed away on 7/2/14. Today is 7/15/14 and I have not received a call or card of condolence. This is a disgrace, but perhaps to be expected.

There's absolutely nothing I didn't like about Window Valley except for the fact that it snowed. The rooms are absolutely beautiful. What I was looking at was a 2-bedroom apartment. The staff was absolutely professional and friendly. My son's mother-in-law lives there. I've known many people who have lived there because I originally came from Lancaster. The plan that I'm looking at there is just what I can't find in Florida. It's totally independent living in an apartment building with a restaurant. There's no food plan. You purchase meals at the restaurant and you cook for yourself, which is what I like to do.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Grandparents have lived at Willow Valley for just over 10 years. In the beginning, they were very happy there. Over the past few years, quite a bit has changed and I would NOT recommend this retirement community to family or friends anymore. Management is rude, disrespectful, and shares information regarding residents' personal and private interactions at the "home" without permission. I was told over the phone in significant detail behaviors of my grandparents that were none of my business when I called to follow up on some changes that had been made to the buildings/activities. The manager I spoke with actually told me she thought my grandparents were having financial troubles...my very proud grandfather would DIE if he knew someone suggested that of him. Grossly inappropriate. They had no idea who I was, and even if they did, should not have shared their negative opinions of my relatives. Also, there has been construction going on in one apartment wing for over a year. This means if you live in this wing, you've been living with noise, dirt, debris, etc for over a year. Finally, many of the activities that my grandparents participate in have been dissolved with no notice other than a note on the door saying the activity is no longer available. This is very hard on them when they have schedules/routines they've been sticking to for years. The dates the activities were scheduled to reopen have come and gone several times without explanation or apology. My grandparents are so unhappy there now, and I think it's such a shame to spend your last years feeling disrespected and talked down to by staff. Sadly, I would not recommend Willow Valley Retirement Community.

I spent a night at Willow Valley and it was a great facility. It was beautiful and large. The fees were lower. The staff was very good and friendly. They were amenable and courteous. They had about five restaurants. They gave the opportunity for the people to rate the staff every single day, which I thought was interesting. They were prominent people from where they came from and they made it their job every night that somebody at the table would rate the people who waited on them that day.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My parents used to live at Manor at Willow Valley. It's an old facility and the apartments are small. The food was truly wonderful. It was a very supportive community among the various residents. They have a garden for people who like gardening. They have a bus service as well as a city bus service that made it quite possible for them to take active trips to either see historical things or to go shopping. They have a very active set of choices for the residents.

We enjoyed our visit in Willow Woods. The staff who gave us a tour was gracious and informative. However, the rooms that we could afford were small. It was not spacious enough for me and my husband. There were actvities like wood workings and swimming.
