Your family's dedication to your mom and the love that you have for her is such an incredible thing to witness, and I am so grateful to you and your sister for choosing Sweet Memories at Commonwealth Senior Living. I love that you and your family are all a part of our Pineapple family now, and that we can continue to work together to help your mom live her best life. Thank you for your kind words, and for trusting us to care for your mom. It is truly our honor and our pleasure to know and care for her.

To provide the appropriate care to those with memory loss, our team undergoes Virtual Dementia Tour Training. During the Virtual Dementia Tour, trained facilitators guide our team members through common everyday tasks and exercises while outfitted with patented devices that alter their senses. The tour enables our team to experience the physical and mental challenges those with dementia face and to ultimately provide better person-centered care. Additionally, our memory care team is specifically trained on working with residents who have dementia, how to live in their reality, and to meet them where they are.

Through our Life Kits, our team is able to engage residents using items that are important to them specifically. Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Memory Care Director assesses all new residents prior to them moving into our memory care neighborhood. Our care team pays close attention to each resident, carefully observing them for changes. Additionally, our Memory Care Director re-evaluates each resident after 30, 60, and 90 days. After this initial evaluation, the plan of care is updated as needed, or at least every 6 months if no changes have been noted.
What techniques does Commonwealth Senior Living at Harrisburg use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Dining in our memory care neighborhood, Sweet Memories, is truly an experience. Breakfast starts with a warm citrus-scented towel being provided to each resident to help cue them that it is time to wake up as well as stimulate their appetite, and dinner starts with a lavender-scented towel to help the resident to relax as evening approaches. Additionally, our multi-colored dishes allow for residents to be able to see their food when their vision and depth-perception have faded as a result of their dementia diagnosis.
