can't believe my eyes

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

What a depressing, old, and ugly looking place. The only people we saw freely moving around were staff members and a few visitors.. patients are locked up in their sections. Our friend has been put there by one of her family members and she doesn't belong in this kind of facility. All her freedoms have been taken away from her. Patients wander the ward and look depressed. It's literally like "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest" and the staff talk badly to the residents. Just a horrible place to be in. She thinks she's only there for a little bit, but her house, car and possessions have been sold. Breaks my heart.

Do not send family here! My mother passed away and NO one even called, found out the next morning when funeral home called me to let me know they picked her up.

My parent was there and did not recieve the best care. she needed assistance with eating and often did not get help. Became dehydrated . numerous times. I would encourage anyone looking for a place for a loved one visit in the evening or on a weekend at mealtime. Go to the dining room they so charmingly call the 'feeder dining room' see whether the residents are getting help. There are typically 15 people needed assistance and 3 staff members. While visiting my parent i observed residents not being given food or fluids, residents trying to feed themselves with their hands its not good. Also when my parent became ill none of the staff noticed

I visited this facility

Uncle was a patient there, siblings and I visited him, feces all hallway floor that no one cleaned up. Uncles room was shared with another person, was very small, dingy, run down shabby furniture, bed was no better than a worn out roll away bed. Could not believe his daughter our cousin put him there. he is now deceased. The place was depressing .

I was very sorry when the east closed, switching my mom over to the west was a very different situation. The place is more of a dungeon, it's nothing fancy, dining room where my mom eats is just table and chairs, not table clothes .Bells are constantly ringing.

Pleasant Ridge Manor is a very good establishment. I felt their Alzheimer's floor was good. My dad has not complained; the food seems to be adequate. They have karaoke and trivia. The only thing I can say that they need on the Alzheimer's care unit is a nice common lounge for the patients and their visitors to go to, something that’s very comfortable with maybe televisions and a relaxing atmosphere. They don’t have any common area where you can sit and relax other than the main dining area which is the wooden chairs with the hard vinyl, and you’re in with everybody else which is fine, but sometimes you just want an area where you can relax. They need something that would be more a homey setting because they lack that homey setting. That’s the only negative thing I can say. Everything else, I’m impressed with. I didn’t have a good attitude going into it. At first, I criticized everything I saw, and each time I went, my vision changed, and there’s nothing to complain about. He gets good care. They know what’s going on at all times. You can ask as many questions you need to ask. You never feel like you’re bothering the staff. I would recommend the Alzheimer's unit; it’s very plain, but everything else about makes up for that. They have a very pretty gazebo in the middle of the unit. The unit is like a big circle, and I have to say it looks very nice so there’s a nice place for them to go when the weather is warm.

We chose Pleasant Ridge because first of all it seemed like a very good fit for my husband. He is ambulatory, and most of the clients there are as well. And they have availability which is a huge thing. It is really difficult to get into these places because of the long waiting lists. It is fairly new. It has very good security for himself as a patient and also for his belongings because they keep things secured in the room. He's only been there just a few days, so it's really hard for me to evaluate it as much. He seems to be well cared for.

The staff at Pleasant Ridge were very kind and thorough in their care of my grandmother (who is not the easiest person to please, especially in a situation she didn't want to be in). Each time I called on staff or visited the place, they always kept me up to date with what was going on with her care. The campus was clean and well-kept. Additionally, they were very accurate and precise in meeting my grandma's needs and wants, as well as taking special care to follow her diet. Really the only issue I have with this facility is the fact that it seemed like they drug their feet when it came to getting everything set up for hospice care. They wanted to move her to another area and in her condition in those final days, that would not have been good for her. None the less, I would still say this is a good facility. The rooms have a very homey feel and a lot of them have a very nice view. I like the fact that the residents are able to have their own phone in their room with the same phone number they had at home. Overall, I would suffice it to say that Pleasant Ridge Manor does their best to ensure the comfort and contentment of all it's residents.
