I needed care

I am/was a resident of this facility

My pain management was ignored for 36 hours. When I didn’t get a scheduled pain med dose I learned from RN staff that they couldn’t give me my pain meds. Meds that had been prescribed by on site MD and PA. Was told MD or PA would come to my room and talk to me about it. They never came. While at the facility, explained my insurance coverage to office staff on 3 separate occasions. Showed one person the Medicare webpage FAQ that detailed how to process my charges. Since discharge, have talked with staff who assured me it would be handled. Months later I’m still being invoiced. Majority of CNA staff were considerate, kind, competent. I felt cared for. Some, when asked a pointed question would say they’d find out, then never return. At a meeting with admin staff was told something, two days later another admin staff completely contradicted the information. Basic information about Village Health Care processes wasn’t communicated.

I am/was a resident of this facility

If I could give a negative rating I would. -3 Chaotic atmosphere. Nobody seems to know what is happening or what should be happening. Most of the CNA staff try very hard to care for us well. However, the upper staff do a very poor job of supporting the CNAs. Example, not enough medical supplies like diapers or disposable chucks. CNA staff has to use wash cloths instead of wet wipes. The only institution I have been in to use cloth wipes and then expect to launder them adequately. Food quality uneven. Lots of prepackaged corporate stuff. When the kitchen staff here makes the food it is OK to good but the staff here does not get a chance to do that often. Management does very little but are very good at making excuses and delivering a snow job. Do not bring any clothes to Villages that you don't want to loose to being stolen or laundered in hot water and dried on very hot. Nurses frequently like high school girls gossiping and laughing. Some nurses are excellent but you can't depend on that. It's just hard to figure out what is going on. Villages policies and proceedures seem to have no order or justification except what is easiest thing to get you to be quiet and compliant. If you are a family member- be very involved and stop by frequently. Talk to your resident and the CNA staff. Management will do a snow job saying whatever they think you want to hear. The facility is out to make a buck- period.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

NEGLECT! NEGLECT! NEGLECT! As of this date my mom has been there FOUR DAYS! We can’t go see her due to Covid but I’m sure if Family members were able to visit it would be a little different. They keep her room pitch dark. Only opening the curtains if I call. She has low vision, they finally turned the tv on for her but turned the sound off. (She’s in a room by herself so it’s not like it would bother another patient). She’s sounding worse by the hour and we can’t get her out. She doesn’t know what drugs they’re giving her because they don’t tell her. She can’t stand or walk which they didn’t know, I explained she needs a commode because she couldn’t see to get to the bathroom even IF she could walk!!! She told me that last night she had ‘an accident’. She asked them to be sure not to lose her pants. I asked her what she’s wearing, she said she doesn’t know!!! Also, she sounds like she’s having petit mahl seizures (and I’m very aware what they’re like). It’s that or terrible dehydration or a mini stroke? I’m so furious!!! And NOW a 72 hour quarantine due to a staff member being exposed to Covid. I’m so worried about her lack of care and what is happening there and now we can’t even get her out. Never EVER let a loved one be taken there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother's clothes keep disappearing. On her closet that says daughter does laundry. That seems to be clear. I am missing several items. Who took them and where are they I want them returned. She is not incontinent she needs to go to the bathroom when she touches the pad not 15 minutes later.

I visited this facility

This is a small skilled nursing facility for about 50 residents, with no specific memory care. Parking is very tough here"”especially if there's a staff meeting. Village HealthCare is clean, although not immaculate. Rather than offering a homelike atmosphere, it feels like a hospital, with a centrally located nurses' station and cold common areas. It also feels a little chaotic inside. There is an RN on staff"”and several CNAs and LPNs. It seems as if the staff is flurrying around, addressing the needs of the high needs residents"”or hoarding around the nurses' station. None of this imparts a sense of calm. But many staff members have been there for a very long time"”some 20 years or more. And most of them are pleasant, even though they do not seem to go above and beyond the call of duty. They also seem patient and caring with family members. There's a basic outdoor area, but it has no garden, just a couple chairs in a shaded area. And there are very minimal activities scheduled, nothing very engaging"”mostly TV. The food is decent and readily available, and even special requests are honored. Basically, this place is a mixed bag. On one hand, I saw wound care that was dangerously insufficient. But on the other, I noted that staff members cared enough to attend the funeral of a resident who died.
