My husband is in Farmington Square - Gresham. It has been wonderful. They keep me in contact with everything, and they take him to and from doctors' appointments and make sure his medications are filled. The staff has been very caring They've been good. At first, they had a male attendant that would help my husband with his shower, but he left for another job, and it was just females that went in to help him and he didn't want to shower in front of women. They're very helpful, very patient, and caring. His room has two different bedrooms, but there's a wall in between them. They share a huge bathroom and they both have nice windows in each room. He has room for a queen size bed, a chair, and a couple of dressers. The food is very healthy. It's like broccoli or carrots or peas, salad, always hot meat dish, and desserts. They take them out on tours on big busses, and they go up to the Gorge and Multnomah Falls. One of the ladies walks every lunch hour so she's been taking my husband with her walking. They have a nice courtyard off of the main big community room that they can go out into and it has a nice wall in there so they can't escape, but yet they can get outside whenever they want to. They could use some help with maintenance. Cleanliness is a five.

Our initial tour and meeting @Farmington were pleasant and we were convinced that they really have the passion and care for their residents. The move-in process was chaotic!!! Granted it was right after the holidays, but no one greet us or explain how they work in the facility. The room was not cleaned! Floor was full of the same dirt and the provided closet still has the previous residents' filthy item, which we were told will be all clean before our move-in date!!! After we set up bed etc., we had to seek out someone that works there so we can communicate with medications and caring instructions. There are few very caring and hard-working caregivers, some were observed to be busy checking cell phones or chatting among themselves and not paying attention to where and what the residents are doing. If we asked some information, at times answers we got from personnel was I was not on the shift, so I don't know, or we are short on staff. One time, a resident got out into the courtyard during 2023 ice-storm, she was on the ground, and I had to info on-site personnel. I understand residents should be able to walk around the facility but in a memory care, there should be a pair of eyes to monitor activity and check into their safety. Not all staff seem to be properly trained or know the procedures. In these facilities, each employee would be carrying an in-house communication device, so he/she can respond to urgent/emergency needs from the resident/other co-workers. We don't see such practice during the short stay of our parent. One staff had said the communication device need to be hand-out by the lead when other said no, each personnel is to pick up the device when shift starts. Then another time was our device is being charged. Management is really lacking! As for food, it is awful! Other resident families also agree, not just us. Their menu is never posted on-time, most time they don't serve what is listed, which is understandable once in a while, but it occurs too often. I even heard a response to a resident that they ran out lettuce for her requested sandwich. We were told by Farmington that they provide alternative meal, but they don't list it on the menu or anywhere else, only verbally was told to us during first 30-days review and we were told they will look into improving their food. Our parent in on Mechanical-Food order, which requires the food to be chopped up and served moist with gravy. Only a handful of time, food was moist, most often they were only scoops of dry meat, potatoes, and ground up pile of veggie or dry peas. Then one day, Farmington management told us that to have gravy to be served for Mechanical-Food, another doctor's order is needed! This is after almost 2 months into our parent's stay and us complaining about their food, then came this advice! The truth is that was a big lie! We have moved our parent out and the new facility said Mechanical-Food in itself should be moist, no extra order is needed for what Farmington's so-call required doctor request to have gravy to be served on top of a Mechanical-Food order. Please be informed, I would hate to have someone else to be fooled by Farmington and not have the proper care for their loved ones. In summary, we have good interactions with the few good caring staffs, what it comes down to is lack of good management training, communication, follow up and just talk the talk! In Farmington's handbook, it claims to be committed with "Excellence" that they perform each task to the highest standards, and "Integrity, Reliability." We really don't see it nor had it during our parent's short stay. Not once we were approached from management or staff on how our parent is doing and what we need, or they need to do for our parent. The only communication we had from management was their required 30-day review, which was just their standard talk. Our email to management was never replied. The most email/phone calls we gotten is for billing/invoice. Whatever was spoken on the 30-day review was not follow up, no email, phone call, or face-to-face. Food never improved nor any update, except for another false statement on Mechanical-Food requirement. In our parent's new facility, first day we were greeted by management, guided on moving instructions. Soon after we settled our parent in, the onsite nurse came in properly to log in medications, the activity/wellness director came in to introduce herself and offer any needs. We see cleaning crew all around. There is a staff lead, a house cleaning lead, everything is very well organized and managed! We don't see any staff on personal cell phone in the facility while on duty, all working and checking on residents' needs. We were approached multiple times by staff and wellness director on our parent's need within only few days and the food is wonderful and they are super accommodating! They have a food director that oversee the menu, which is posted timely along with its alternatives. Food is served very organized and hot, unlike Farmington, scattered and cold food, and their ceramic cups are chipped, which is also a safety issue for possible cut lips. One thing I have learned is not to trust what you hear or see on the surface. If you want your love-ones, especially the ones without a voice, to have good care, spend time to observe the facility and do research on any required needs so you are armed with questions. I hope our experience will help other in search of a memory care facility. Do your due diligence with any facility in mind. Best Regards to all~

My aunt moved into Farmington Square Gresham 6 weeks ago. I am impressed. The place is very clean. They have their own cleaning crew who comes in and clean. Everything is run well. They're small individual houses. They have their own kitchens right there. They have a house manager for each house, and they have their own med unit in each house. Even though it's part of a larger facility, each house has its own dedicated staff, their own nurses, med techs, managers, and cooks. It's a locked unit. The manager's office is right by the front door, so she sees everyone coming and going. Several of their residents want to stay in their rooms, so they do a full residence check every 30 to 45 minutes. They not only knock on the doors, but they go in and check to make sure all the residents are fine. They have yoga and exercises every day. They have music. They have a doll that the women seem to pass around with bottles and they all take turns feeding it. They do play games with them. They're very hands-on.

My wife is in Farmington Square - Gresham. They have five separate cottages. They have a very nice appearance. There's one lane drive-through between the cottages. It's a two-way, but just one lane through it with parking off to the side. It's very well laid out. I noticed they have yard keepers that come in and do their yard work. The inside of the cottages is nice. It's kind of like a hallway that loops around. The rooms are off the hallway. It has one small common area that you come into. You enter a locked door that goes into a common area with couches, some recliner chairs, and the TV on the wall. There's a small dining room with maybe six tables for dining. At the far end, there's another small common area with a TV on the wall. In between, there's a common area with tables and chairs with a TV. I never tried their food. They post a menu on the wall. My wife never remembers what they served, and I always have to look at the menu and say, 'Oh, you eat this and this.' I've seen the food on some plates when I come at mealtime, and it looked pretty good. After dinner, before bedtime, I know they give a little treat of something. I know they've given them a cookie mainly. They give them water and juice at the meal. Their activities are a real concern to me because the only thing I've seen them do is sit in this common area. About six or eight residents are out and watching TV. Two times I went there, and they were watching a sing-a-long thing where a lady was on there playing the piano and singing. The times I've gone there, there's no activity. They're just sitting around and watching TV, so that concerned me quite a bit. At my wife's cottage, you go out a side door near the eating area, and there's probably a small sidewalk that's probably 12 feet wide and probably 25 feet long area, and there are two park benches to sit on, and so that's it. That's the outside area that she has.

I toured Farmington Square - Gresham and I think for the price, the rooms were a little underwhelming and seemed a little dated. I know that they are upgrading, but for the same price, they seem a bit small and do not have as much accommodations or extras that other places have, but the person I talked to was very nice and very knowledgeable. I didn't see many amenities offered. I just saw that they had a common room that you could watch TV in and a laundry facility, but what I liked about the place was the separate buildings. They have a smaller community in each building rather than in one large one.
