The rooms are a bit run down but very clean. The food is not great. The staff is very kind and responsive when asked to help with something. My husband has been a resident there for the past six weeks.

Items that he had when my friend was admitted have disappeared and they have made no offer to locate or replace. This is outright theft.

My husband was admitted, under hospice care, on July 24th. He died July 30th. I WOULDN'T TAKE A DOG HERE!! Staff I met seemed to care ... but they appeared to be woefully under-staffed. The facility is in such a run-down condition ... not like it used to be. Due to Covid restrictions, I was not allowed to visit him the first 2 days - - they were "revising the visitor policy". Had to wait until Monday to see if and when I could visit him. When I went in on Monday, (outside temps were running in triple-digits), there was NO AIR CONDITIONING in his room! I was told there was AC in the hall, and the door was left open. Never received an answer as to why no AC. I asked for a fan - - they didn't have one! I had to go buy one and bring it back. Covid visitation restrictions: Residents could have only window visits. However - Hospice patients could have 1 visit per day, 1 hour per visit. And if actively passing, you could be there as much as needed. Fast-forward to July 30th. Received call from facility nurse: my husband had had such a dramatic overnight change, and she didn't believe he'd last until the week-end. I was with him for 6 hours (and his sister came for a couple hours also from out of town). Hospice nurse said probably wouldn't pass until Monday. We left at about 3:00, to go get a some lunch. I'd said I'd be back - no comments came back to me. I returned at about 5 pm. They would NOT let me back in! Even though my husband was actively passing, it didn't matter to them. Staff was very rude, very cold to my request to be with my husband. As I was finally walking back to my car, I was told in a very snippy, sing-song voice "Have a nice day!" He passed at 7:25pm - - ALONE!! I wasn't notified until 8:28pm - by the hospice nurse. A friend came with me back to the nursing home. We entered wearing masks; our temps were taken, and that was it. No other protocols were followed - - no health questions - - did not have to gown up or put gloves on - - went unescorted to his room. (There's more that happened, but this review would REALLY become a book!) Repeated requests to speak to the administrator, Megan, were ignored. Until today, not a call, no contact has been made. This place is so poorly run. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. There's no communication evident with the staff. They DON'T KNOW what the proper protocol is. And management has NO HEART! That place is just being treated like a cash cow!!

If you love your family, DO NOT take them to this facility. I work for a fellow hospital and was less than impressed with the communication and abilities of (or lack thereof) the staff. I called diligently every day to make contact with the nurse that was taking care of my aunt, I would be transferred to lines that were seemingly unattended and never answered. I even called to the administrators in order to get some sort of information relayed back me as promised, and still nothing. 5 different people told me they would assure I got a call of some sort, and no contact was ever made. When I arrived at the facility, I was rudely questioned about what I was doing there and received very little help to get to my aunt's room. She was in her death bed on hospice, and as I spent 6 hours there at her bedside, not a single person came to reposition her or make sure she was clean and dry. All in all, I am very disappointed with all aspects of this facility and wish no one to suffer at the Highland house. Incompetency and misunderstandings is what you CAN expect.

I had reservations about my daughter being in a nursing home but since there I have found everyone there to be extremely supportive and a pleasure to work with. It's a very relaxing environment and the cna's have done a great job of making sure she recovers and has what she needs. The administrators there I think have gone overboard to help in transitions by making phone calls, and talking with me to help in anyway they can. The physical therapy she was there for was great and she is walking better than she was.

We had to place our 95 year old Aunt M. in this facility thinking we had one of the better 'homes' in the area. WE DIDN'T!!! I feel so awful that we had her here as long as we did. She was routinely ignored. Lost weight even when we said she needs help eating and can't feed herself. Her medications got mixed up from what she had been taking. I went in there twice and it was FREEZING! I went out and bought warmer blankets and jackets for her. Then they finally fixed the heater.I would not recommend this place and for the prices they charge, I'm thinking someone is making big money but it's not the staff and it should be!
