What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
We have mandatory training that the staff will receive before they are allowed to work on the floor. We have continuing training each month at our all staff meetings.

The population at New Friends is very diverse. We have people of all ages who enjoy to interact with each other. Play a plethora of activities including listening to live "Elvis" almost weekly and of course the bingo :)
What programs or activities does New Friends & Residential Care of Florence offer to enrich residents' well-being?
We offer multiple live performances, manicures, and foot care. We offer tons of sensory and aroma items, arts and crafts, and even reminiscing about the "good years."

We offer 24 hours of awake staff and someone to be there at all times.

We offer care conferences monthly after move in and quarterly after that. We have an open door policy to ensure no communication goes missed.

We base our ratio off of acuity of the residents needs.

We do accept dogs and cats, the resident would be in charge of ensuring the care needs are meet. We have patios at each house that allows for the animals to go outside with their loved ones.

We based our staffing ratio on the acuity needs of the residents.
What safety features or security measures does New Friends & Residential Care of Florence provide to protect residents who wander?
We have locked memory care that allows for the residents to wander within the building and locked gates outside that would allow the residents to wander outside during nice weather.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
We have RN and LPN who are on shift. They do it a month after move in and than quarterly after that. Of course if needed sooner or if cognition needs assessed before that we can accommodate for that.
What techniques does New Friends & Residential Care of Florence use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Interaction during dinning room including the staff eating the meal with them. We also provide person centered care and allow them to eat when they want to eat. This allows them to maintain their schedule.
Is New Friends & Residential Care of Florence affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
We have a hospital that is 2 blocks away, and if they are on palliative services we have a in house doctor that would see them within a couple of days to prevent having to go to the hospital.
