Cascades of Bend was extremely large. It was very nice and very well maintained. The staff was wonderful. When I brought home some information after I looked at it, my brother-in-law wasn't too interested. I don't think he wanted to be in a large facility anyway. You walk in and they give you a tour and everything. It was very nice. The units were very nice. Everything was clean. They have anything you can think of. They have an activity room, a workout room, and a huge dining area. I was very impressed at how clean it is.

I cannot recommend this assisted living facility to anyone. My family’s experience was absolutely horrible and tragic. After researching care homes in Bend, I felt confident that we had made the right choice with Cascades for my husband, a healthy 78 year old with care needs related to Parkinson’s that were beyond what we could provide at home. Cascades appeared to be a well-run facility with a caring staff. Wrong, wrong. Even though Cascades performed an exam prior to his admission, after the first night I was told my husband had to leave the facility because he was a falls risk. When I saw him that first morning, he was unrecognizable and the stench of urine and feces was overwhelming. He was completely disoriented and his pants were around his ankles. The room was in a state of total disorder. The staff looked on, without any idea of how to care for him. I personally cleaned the room. My husband experienced 9 more days of the same, after which he passed away. We still don’t have the death certificate (4 days later). During these 9 days, he was given 1 shower (by me) and was shaved once (also by me), despite a care plan that called for a daily shave. He was dehydrated, had lost five pounds, and had stopped eating or drinking. He lived in his final days in an uncaring environment and died in a very undignified way. It sickens me to say all of this. Amazingly, when we were called and told he had passed away, we rushed over to Cascades. Surprise, they had cleaned his room and opened the curtains. But he had no top on and they missed his soiled adult diaper in the corner of the closet. I am angry and disappointed and sad and say all of the above to advise anyone considering Cascades for their loved one to consider options. I am devastated by the loss of my husband of 46 years but mostly that the last 9 days of his life were spent in gross neglect and completely unnecessary.

Cascades of Bend Retirement Community is an older building, and I stayed there for 2 nights. It was very comfortable. The room where I stayed was a 2-bedroom with adequate storage. The 1-bedroom didn't have enough storage. The food was excellent, and they had a very good chef. I played cards one night with some of the men, and they had a question and answer thing which was also good and well-attended. The people there liked it very much and are satisfied to be there.

My mother-in-law really liked the apartment that was available. She liked the view and the way it was laid out. It had been remodeled, so it’s fairly new. We also liked that they have a residential care wing. She’s in the independent living, but if she gets to the point where she needs more care, it wouldn’t be a huge move since it’s just around the corner in the same building. We just really get a good feeling from the staff and the residents we’ve met.

My mother-in-law will move into Cascades this weekend. She liked that it was a smaller community. She went last bpring break to go through it, and she was very pleased. She will be in the independent living, but if she needs more care further on, then we can add further care. She was very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. We had complimentary lunch, and everybody was very nice. Her room was very clean, and she said it was perfect for what she wants. She has a great view of Butte and the courtyard. They have their own bus and schedule doctors' and medical appointments on certain days, go shopping, and do outings. They have an activity room, a movie room, a library, and a chapel. She liked that it was not cramped and not overwhelming to her. The food was excellent, and I was very impressed.

Everything we have experienced so far has been good at Bend Villa. The staff is helpful. She has got a 2-bedrooom unit with a living area, a very small kitchen, and a nice bathroom. It’s homey. The food is very good, and they’ve got quite a few activities like arts and crafts, movies, cards, and happy hour once in a while. The location is good, and the fact that mom has had friends that have stayed there before is good.

I do not Care for this facility the care staff are overworked and underpaid. I would never allow my love one to ever live there! Also the cleanliness of the facility is questionable.
