I am a friend or relative of a resident

Poor service, after calling for assistance, a thirty to fourty minute wait. Consistantly not just sometimes. My Dad didn't want to do his rehab, what he was there for, and they didn't try to get him to do it. They would ask, he said no and they said ok. My Dad has really good insurance, but without improvement, insurance will no longer pay after I think at about thirty days or less. Dad was there over two months and no improvement. When I tryed to move him to another facility, I should have said nothing to them and just did it. They wouldn't let me have one minute alone with Dad. They thought I was upset about him having a bed sore on his rear end. In fact , I didn't even know about that till then . And I also found out that they didn't have any one big enough to help Dad get out of bed, or a big enough hoyer. I have more to say but that should be enough. Oh wait, They insisted Dad had a co pay and he did not. After a few months of back and fourth with them on the subject Dad said just pay them,(like many old folks would do). I called Dads insurance, like I should have from the begining but I didn't think they would keep insisting. And they set them straight.

Avamere Rehabilitation of Beaverton, Oregon has been a nice place for my family member to recover after back surgery. The living arrangements consisted of a private room with a shared restroom, and that was just what was needed. The staff of caregivers was available when called, and regularly checked in to assist with getting dressed and such. Sometimes there was a bit of a wait; but nothing unreasonable. The provided meals were standard, and it was especially nice that there were some alternatives to choose from. This was surprising, since the facility is a smaller one.Visiting hours were very open and flexible. It felt good to be able to drop in any time and be able to see that things were going alright. Professional nursing staff at this Avamere facility was busy; yet each of them were able to spend time on our questions and concerns. Most impressive was the physical therapy staff and program. Therapy included individual time, focused on the prescribed personal plan. The group activities were well-done with an amazing amount of individual attention to each one present. I would recommend this Avamere facility to others as meeting more than general standards of care.

This facility was very clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. It is a newer building, so it doesn't have that "nursing home" smell. The nurses, aides and therapists were very knowledgeable about their craft. The residents were treated very civil. Therapy procedures were great. This facility provided free cable, wifi, and daily newspaper to keep the residents (and visitors) entertained. Overall, this facility is great.

This place is awful. My father spent a week there and it was 7 days of misery. It is in disrepair. The rooms and bathrooms are straight from the 60's. Everything is shared, there is no privacy and few staff members speak english. The food was unedible. Everything was grey or beige. It smelled gross and everything had the consistency of mush. There are no gardens or greenspace. The landscaping is of overgrown weeds. Please do not let your loved one be sent to this place.

This facility accommodates about 70 intermediate care and rehab patients, but has no memory care. It is an old ugly building that looks like a traditional nursing home of the past"”concrete and drab. It's located in a very urban setting, only a couple blocks off the highway, but right near a busy intersection, not a peaceful setting. Inside has sparse and sterile decoration, more akin to a hospital. There is no outside area for residents to use, which is a real drawback for some. There is a small common area near the entrance where residents can gather, and they seem to like the interaction and watching visitors come and go. Residents must share small bathrooms, and the individual rooms themselves are rather drab, and very cramped and claustrophobic-feeling: a twin bed and small nightstand and small chair more than fill them. There is a colorful activity board posted, but not many engaging activities actually offered. The food served is average, more like cafeteria food, with overcooked vegetables and standard fare. They do accommodate off-hour requests, however. This facility has one of the lowest staff to resident ratios"”about 16 residents to every caregiver, so the place has a frenetic feel. It can be difficult to summon someone if needed. I had a client there who reported it often took 45 minutes or more to respond to a call light, even for reasonable requests. In addition, the caregivers don't seem to have particularly emotional investments with the residents, family members, outside caregivers or other visitors. There are also some communication problems with staff members, not all of whom are proficient in English or easy to understand. They are not always a comfortable match for the residents, most of whom are Caucasian. One benefit: There a social worker for rehab and another for long-term care residents. Their offices are located near the living spaces"”and they are very accessible. This facility accepts Medicaid residents. For others, the cost is about $5,000 to $6,000 monthly.

I am a licensed CNA and have worked in a Nursing Care Facility before, so I know from experience which ones are good and which ones do not run well. Avemere in Beaverton is clean, well organized, peaceful and has a well trained and concerned staff. They are actually cheaper than in home care. My boyfriend's mother was suffering from terminal stomach cancer and so her pain was difficult to manage. The staff made sure the doctors were aware of her pain level and visited with her a lot even though she had a wonderful family helping her. I give Avemere a five.
