I visited this facility

I looked at Southwest Mansion's model room, which was great because it was all set up to be perfect. Then the other room that they took me through was not clean at all; it was not prepared for me to look at it. It was a 2-bedroom, and it was for a person to be in that room alone. The two bedroom windows were at the end of the facility, and the windows were directly in the open parking lot that anybody could park in. It was open to the public, and there's no fence there (no nothing). It's very scary for a single seventy five year old woman. I would not put my mother in a room with a big bedroom window being in a public parking lot. The room was filthy. There was a wall they hadn't patched up yet. They had me looking at it, and it had a big hole that they had patched with sheetrock. The kitchen floor was sticky, it hadn't been mopped yet. The counters were not clean. It looked like someone had just moved out of there. The biggest reason my mom didn't move there is because it's in the center of Tornado Alley, and they did not have a tornado storm shelter. Their staff was great, and they were really nice.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is in an independent living called Southwest Mansions. The staff members are wonderful people. She's in a one-bedroom and it's perfect for her. It's got one big closet and room for all of her stuff. She also likes to play games with the ladies there. We used to visit and enjoy meals with her before the pandemic, and it was really good. I just think she got pretty bored with the food this last year. She has her own little back porch. Of course, her apartment has got help bars and all the things she needs. It's a really nice place. I think you have to be a special type of person to work with elderly people and this place seems to have a good choice of staff. They're all very caring and accommodating to the people living there. The activities are starting back up, they got things going on all the time like bingo. It's wonderful; they keep them busy.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is in an independent living center. He is at Southwest Mansions. It's very nice. They're very well organized and very friendly there. They're very caring with him. They're very conscientious about all of their customers. They pay attention to their needs, and they keep them happy. The food is very good. They have a cook there. The amenities are very good. They have little celebrations for holidays; the residents love those. The activity rooms are very spacious. The residents go in there and they participate in the different activities. They have puzzles, sewing, and different games for the men.

I visited this facility

We toured Southwest Mansions. We were very impressed with them, and we selected them out of the ones we looked at. Everybody was friendly, including the residents, they also seemed happy, and it was a good deal for the price. My parents are going to move there.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have moved in to Southwest Mansions and I like it very much. It's really nice. I have met people who have lived here since it opened and they are very pleased with it still. I am happy with it too. The staff is very friendly and helpful ad they provide the services that I need, but they do not keep a nurse on-staff. The dining area is pleasant, and the food so far has been as good as it could be. They have bingo, card games, and outings where they take people to Wal-Mart or they eat out once or twice a week, but you pay for that yourself. The price is a little too high, but it is no higher than the others in the area.

I visited this facility

Southwest Mansions is not gated, but it’s very private. There is plenty of parking, but of course, a lot of seniors don’t drive anymore. A really nice thing about them is there were 2 doors. There was a door into the hallway so you can go to the dining room and a door out to the back patio. They provide 2 meals a day -- breakfast and lunch. Most of the apartments were on a courtyard, and at the end of the courtyard was a wrought iron gate. It was gated that way. I looked at a 1-bedroom. The thing I did not like is that they did not have icemakers in the refrigerators. They didn’t have garbage disposal, which I didn’t care about. They also didn’t have a dishwasher, which I wouldn’t care about because for 1 meal a day, I’m not going to do a lot of cooking. But the ice-maker really bothered me. Also you could not put in your own refrigerator; you have to keep what they have. It was kind of small. I didn’t really care for the staff, but the lady that is over it was really nice. There was a little theater room and a big dining room. They would hold bingo and all kinds of things in there. They have limousines to take people shopping. They have the limousines to take people to doctor’s appointment in Northern Oklahoma City in the mornings and to the southside in the afternoons 2 days a week, so you would make your appointments accordingly to get a limousine.

Southwest Mansions was nice and convenient. The people were friendly, and it would probably suit me, but it was so expensive. The dining area was pretty nice. The rooms were spacious. The location stood out to me.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother lives at this facility. Her apartment is nicely laid out and very sunny. The kitchen is larger than at another place she lived. However, for clarification, there are no doctors or nurses on staff. Maintenance is apparently done by one man who is overwhelmed and therefore slow to respond. The quality of the food has improved recently (according to my mother) and the new activity director is providing a lot more interesting things for the residents to do. The transportation is limited and difficult to arrange so I would recommend looking elsewhere if you no longer drive.

Southwest Mansions were not quite as luxurious, but it was a very nice facility. I was impressed that they had two or three different rooms that you could have meetings in if you had family to visit or anyone like that. They were big enough to accommodate probably 25 or so people. The people there were extremely nice and laborious. The staff was friendlier than those at the other place. It was a little bit more relaxed there.

Southwest Mansions doesn’t have memory care unit as it is independent living. The rooms are spacious, the food was better there than the other facility, and it was a pretty open facility since it was independent living.

I visited this facility

I like living independent at Southwest Mansions, but the cheapest they had was $1700 for a 1-bedroom. They had doctors and nurses on staff. Their rooms were gorgeous, and they had pool courts at each room of the apartment. They had the kitchen all fixed up with a microwave, refrigerator, and stove. You could either eat in your room, fix your own food, or have some family member come. They had a really big, gorgeous dining room. They had film night. They had so many different activities. They had people come in from churches, and they had singing things. They had a piano there where they play piano and everybody can sing along. They had nurses that could come by. They kept an eye on you, and they had a room where you could sit in front. Then you had your own little front porch area, and you could have a lawn chair and go sit out front there. It was gated, and in the middle it had flowers, and all of them go out there and sit. It’s gorgeous.

Southwest Mansions is independent-living, but they have nurses there. I'm very interested in it because it is as nice as it is, and it has everything that I need. It is also very close to the hospital, the doctors, everything that we use normally. They're fairly new, just three or four years. The rooms are a good size. They're clean and very spacious, they have plenty of closet space. They have a small kitchen and they have a washer and dryer in each unit. They do your laundry, but for your own personal things, you can do that. They have a library and the social things that you would need. They have only two meals a day, but you can have them at different times. You can take it back to your room if you want to. You can have your pet. They have covered parking in certain areas with certain units, which I appreciate. There are certain things they allow you to do. You can put up fans anywhere in your rooms if there aren't any. Everybody is so personable there. If somebody comes by for something, you hear the other people calling them by name. Everybody knows everybody.
