Springfield Assisted Living was clean, the staff seemed to be caring, and they have individual rooms. The other thing that was nice about it was that it's a one-price-fits-all. They didn't have a lot of, "Oh, your care has gone up so your cost needs to double". It's assisted living and everyone puts on their best face. I believe, at the time of our visit, they had a COVID outbreak so I went back a second time and was able to talk to the staff. I never got to see how the kitchen worked though and I never got to see how people interacted because of the restrictions. They also deliver meals to everybody's room because of that. The grounds looked average but the overall facility was well laid out so that people couldn't get lost in it. It was kind of a circular type of arrangement. The rooms were very nice and they had little kitchenettes. I looked at a 1-bedroom where everything was nicely separated. The bathrooms were nice because they were non-slip and with adequate storage.

We went to Springfield Assisted Living and I love the screened-in porch. The staff who toured us was very nice. I have friends that live there. They said they had activities. They had a microwave and a larger fridge. Each apartment had its own screened-in porch.

Springfield Assisted Living was OK. It was older, but they have a newer section. The rooms were adequate. The only thing I didn't like about it was there's a long walk for people from one section to the front and if you don't walk very well, it's a long walk, which might be hard on some people. Overall, it seemed like it was an OK place. The staff during the tour was nice and helpful. I asked questions about the menu and she gave me a little bit of information about some of the food choices. She told me there is a fee if you wanted to eat in your room, which I didn't like because I know they want people to get out and visit and be together. I'm surprised they charged a fee for you to eat in your room. It's $2 a meal to eat in your room. I honestly did not get to see any of the activities. I just stayed in the dining area. I visited the studio room and the one-bedroom. It seemed adequate for assisted living. There was enough closet space, they had a walk-in shower, and there was enough room. The staff was very nice and polite.

I have been very impressed with the staff at Springfield Assisted Living. They seem to be very caring and competent people. It's a clean and well-lit place. It's a very large facility, and it has different corridors. I'm certainly not familiar with the entire facility, but I have been able to get to the places that I need to go to. The dining room is kind of in the center of it all. It's easy to get to it for everyone. And most of the activities, in addition to eating, take place in the dining room because it's one large gathering center in the place. The facility because offers a variety of activities. The food is like the food in all of these places. Some things are very good and a lot of the things are just awful. They do make an effort to offer a variety of stuff in every meal. There's protein and vegetables, so you get to have a balanced diet. It's not you getting one thing and that's it. There are some choices. The value for the money is average. When we compare prices, this was not the least expensive place and it was certainly not the most expensive place. It's just sort of in the middle.

Springfield Assisted Living seemed like a very nice facility. My dad was totally against moving to Springfield because most of his kids live in Urbana and he wanted to stay in Urbana. The person during the tour was excellent, answered a lot of questions, and was very motivated. They didn't have any openings at the present time. They had a waiting list. The dining area was adequate. I looked at the menu, and it sounded good. She took us around and showed us a couple of the apartments, which were really nice sized. It was an older, smaller facility, so it felt more closed in and didn't have that nice airy feel.

I visited Springfield Assisted Living. The apartment the lady showed me was super, but they were full. You would not think that it was designed for assisted living because it looked like an apartment in a nice apartment building. It had the kitchenette that I wanted.

It’s been 6 weeks since my mother-in-law moved into Springfield. She thinks the food is very good. They do a couple entrees per meal, but if you don’t like the entrees, you can actually order off the menu. It is less expensive, but I still think the service, and everything is good for what you are paying. The food is more like a home cooked thing from what I have seen. They put the residents together and do something like a chat, and then the residents can make suggestions of what they would prefer to have. This is an ongoing kind of thing, so they do listen to residents about what they want to eat. When we moved in, they completely went through an update -- cleaned the carpets and then repainted everything -- so everything was nice and freshly done. They got a calendar, and that tells them what is offered each day in terms of activities. They might have their fingernails done, card games, or movie nights, and then they actually take them on day trips and things. The outside grounds needs to be raked up and cleaned up and put plants because the first impression is the look of it. They are doing some remodeling also on the inside, so I think they are in transition. But their outside ground is something they can probably take care of immediately.

We liked Springfield Assisted Living, although it’s a little bit old. The rooms, hallways, and the dining hall are in an older building. It’s not as nice as the other ones. But the people we talked to, we very much liked. As far as activities and having to engage their residents, they were very good.

We did use Brookdale Springfield (Formerly Grand Court Springfield) for the week that I was gone, and we didn't have a good experience. We visited it first, and meeting and greeting was great. However, they had some problems with staffing in the last couple of days my husband was there. The rooms were good, but he was in a wheelchair, and the bed that they provided for respite care was higher than I preferred. In the room that they showed us as a demo, the bed that he would be using was not high, so that was a disappointment. We also had to bring a lot of our own resources in. They had some disappointments, and I hope they would be resolved. They had an exercise room and a therapy room. It was a nice facility; it was just a personnel problem that we had in the last two days we were there.

The people at Grand Court were very nice and helpful. They answered my questions appropriately. They had a court area for the people to sit. It was close to a shopping center. The rooms were nice. It was very good and sufficient for my friend's needs. The washing and drying facility seemed appropriate.

I was able to tour Grand Court Springfield and the staff there were very helpful. The facility was good enough, so I would rate it highly. With regards to the activities, they surely have some for the residents. They also offer transportation. With the facility's pricing, I though it's reasonable.
