I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is a resident of St. Luke Lutheran Community - North Canton. It's right where my sister and I can be readily available. The rooms for the assisted living side are nice, modern, and clean. They've got everything that anybody would want. The people working there, so far, are very friendly and knowledgeable. My mom is quite pleased with the meals. She has participated in activities, and they've got a lot on the schedule. They have bingo, karaoke, and a chapel.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is at St. Luke Lutheran Community. It's a nursing home. He's a long-term care. It's very nice, and the people are nice. They answer our questions, and he's very content to be there. He orders his food himself. Right now, he's in quarantine. The amenities were very good. They have a beauty shop and a cafeteria. He's got his recliner, a bed dresser with four drawers, a TV, and his private bathroom in his room. The staff members have been very good. The insurance is paying for it. We're very happy with it. We've looked at other places, and this is probably the best one he needs to be at.

The system is very much outdated and the temperature Is horribly hot for older persons. Every winter the tempature is set up too high and produces an uncomfortable miserable conditions. If I was State Ohio I'd make you fix it or family can file lawsuit against the poor church folk own home. Thank you.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

3 months ago we put my mother into nursing care at Saint Luke's. Mom had no dementia, she was 100% mentally alert. Physically, she needed help moving. After 1 week, we discovered she hadn't had her teeth brushed or her partial plate removed in that one week. She would call my sisters who lived nearby to say she had to use the bathroom, and no one is responding to her calls. She was forgotten in the lunch room one day in her wheel chair - no one saw that she needed to be taken back to her room. She was treated as a nothing - as a person of no value and she felt it. It stripped her of her dignity. After this first horrible week, we made arrangements to have her moved to another Home, and there she got her needs met and was treated like a valuable human being.

I visited this facility

I like the people, the cleanliness, and openness of Saint Luke Lutheran Home. I couldn't find anything wrong, and it's really upbeat. They had little things set up in the hallways for them to fidget with if they needed to fidget with something, and it was circular, so they can go around and keep going and going. I like the people's response to the people they were taking care of when I was walking through, and I like that they can go outside and still be safe. You could get all three meals, and they have a doctor on staff. The staff is very good, accommodating, nice, and took a nice time with us.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I just moved my sister in law yesterday at St. Luke, and they provide all the services we needed. They offer a lot of activities in house. They a full therapy on site, doctors that come on site, and they take care all the prescriptions to make sure her meds are always on a hand. They have three chefs there, and they treat them like they are in a restaurant. They sit down, order what they want on the menu, and are given an option of 4 entrees every dinner time. Actually, she moved in to what they called Dogwood Commons -- which is the assisted living part of it -- and they’re all brand new. The room she is in, she is the first one to stay there. The maintenance guys were helpful; they helped us move stuff in. They were right there to hook up the phone and the cable. The nursing staff was there right away to check on her and see if she needed anything. They have been wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I saw my mother here for the first time today. She moved in about 10 days ago so she is still a bit off from the transition. The rooms are unbearably small next to other nursing homes I have seen for friends and family. Her roommates furniture was on my mom's side of the room so she could not have her wheelchair there. I have never seen a nursing home room so small, dark and it smelled. I felt horrible for mom to be in such a place. She was upset at having trouble breathing at lunch. I asked the nurse when she came in. She said mom had on her oxygen so it "was just a panic attack." As we were working to attach her portable tank she realized it was empty. There was no apology to my mom for disrespecting her and assuming it was her fault. I am a psychotherapist and know about panic attacks. If mom says she can't breath she can't breath. She has had some strokes and has a hard time asking for what she needs. She should be in a place that can take her concerns seriously and not treat her with such disrespect. They had a sign at the nurses desk that said complaint department 200 miles that way....how awful to do people who are scared, vulnerable and dependent totally on these people for all their care. If they were not they would be in assisted living instead. I fear they will even hold this review against her. Poor thing for having to live in such an awful place. I hope to help her find a better place soon.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I feel that overall this facility does a great job with the patients. My husbands grandmother has dementia and is a very difficult patient. They always respect her and take wonderful care of her. The staff seems very caring with her and she is always clean and tidy when we have come to visit. The facility is nice, and in the section that she is in, you actually have to be swiped in with a card which I feel is very important considering that many of the Alzheimer patients do get violet or could wander outside. Meals also seem well balanced. They take most of the residents into the dining area and make a nice experience out of it. The only thing that kind of bothered me when I visit is that many patients seemed to be waiting on aids. They had the residents lined up in the hall waiting to be wheeled back to their rooms. I understand wanting to spend time getting each patient situated in their rooms but some waited for quite a long time. They could at least wheel everyone back and then go back to each room. I feel St. Luke's has earned a 4 Star rating and is meeting the proper standards of care.
