We moved our mom to Brookdale of Oakwood from another local facility that was much larger. Brookdale was such a nice change - very intimate, every staff member seemed to know every resident. They had activities throughout the day and unlike the other place, my mom was encouraged to come out of her apartment and participate. We loved that the staff actually escorted the residents to the dining room for meals. Her care there was top notch; they had monthly 'family updates' and regular communications. Highly recommend. Our only regret is that we didn't move her there sooner!

I toured Brookdale Oakwood. I thought it was a very nice tour. They showed us everything. They told us everything about it. They understood the plight that my brother-in-law had. They didn't leave us hanging and told us how much it was going to cost and how they do things. It was a really good tour. The place was beautiful, clean, and welcoming. It was a very, very nice place. Everybody was very friendly and very nice.

Nice place. They did a good job with my parents. Visually nice, not a typical building. I think it depends on the people currently running it. In my opinion Brookdale is one of the better options out there. It’s a tough choice in any regard. I visited very often and never saw anything concerning.Small enough that they knew the residents.

I went to Brookdale Oakwood. I thought that a lot of care went into the development or making the building that was just for memory care. It wasn't an add-on to assisted living, it was just for memory care, and we could see that and liked that. I didn't like the room that I saw at all, the hallways were very nice. It was on the third floor so it didn't have any access to the outside, and to me, it felt oppressive. It was a Tudor building so there wasn't a lot of light. The rooms were empty so you had to bring everything on your own, you had to bring in your own TV, and you had to pay for Spectrum. The bill was extremely expensive, I couldn't believe what they were asking for what you get, it was just unbelievable. My family and I didn't like it at all. It was gonna cost about $9000-10,000. They did not supply the bed, they did not supply dressers, or anything, it was empty there. It was depressing to me, the fact that people couldn't go outside when they want to. The staff said that twice a day, at 2:00 and at 6:00 where they would take the people down. The halls were very narrow and I didn't see people coming around the halls at all. It was the most expensive and had the least, their memory care looked like an add-on. The staff I met was extremely nice, I had no problem with them. They had a small workmen's bench where the people could do something, they had some birds in their cage, but I never saw anybody looking at it. Walking past, most people were in their rooms at the time I was there and it was after lunch.

Brookdale Oakwood was nice, but I just don't think it was the best fit for her. It was on the second floor, and it was kind of dark. It just didn't seem homey; seemed more like a hotel to me. The tour and all that were great. They answered all of our questions. There was just nobody there to give pricing. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. The facility was clean. They were just going through some remodeling. They had the stairs shut off because they had a leak of some sort. It just looked small and confined.

Brookdale Oakwood was a little bit smaller than the other two places. It was a better fit for my mom. The staff was really good. They have a good amount of activities. It was very clean and nice. Everything looked nice there. One of the things about Brookdale that was really good is they have a good staff to resident ratio. They also have a case manager that reviews the cases every day and tries to make sure that the care that they're providing is appropriate or adjusted if needed. They also are requiring their staff to be vaccinated against COVID, so I'm very appreciative of that. I just think that's a good thing to be doing right now. It sounded like their staff was good. I asked about the training, and they have their staff in three weeks in training and shadowing somebody before they ever start to work; I thought was really good.
