I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother has moved into Brookdale Westerville. He and his wife were both happy with it. They chose it because the place was clean and nice, and the residents when we visited seemed happy. I know the price had something to do with it, too, because memory care is expensive. The staff is very friendly and the nurses are very kind. According to my brother, the food is delicious. I know they've got activities. I know they do stuff with him, but we haven't been there long enough. It's very clean.

I visited this facility

I toured Brookdale Westerville for my mom. It's very small and has a very home-like feeling, and very welcoming. You have to be careful though when you pull in, because there is a living facility that's for those with developmental delays. That is the first part of the driveway. You have to actually drive to the rear to get to Brookdale itself. I was impressed with the fact that it seemed as if the staff knew each resident by their name. The residents seemed very comfortable with their interactions with the staff, at least what I witnessed anyway. They had a community room where they were doing, I guess, like a Bible study. And they have a very nice outdoor patio area for the residents where there's old country time rocking chairs and a garden area. It's just beautiful. I like the way the memory care was laid out. It's simply a different door you go through, and it's not marked too dramatically different from the rest of the facility, so it doesn't make you feel like you're walking into another part or a part that's segregated from the rest of the facility. I really like that.

My wife moved into Brookdale Westerville. So far, it seems like they've spent a lot more time with her, and she seems to be happy there. It seems like it's more organized, it's not like some of the others, and I think the patients have more attention to them and the staff overall, and spends more time with them. The staff is very good. The dining room tables were set up with cups and plates and silverware and everything. Some of the other places, they didn't even provide napkins. From what they tell me, she has been eating well.

Brookdale Westerville was a lovely place. It's just a very, very small community. Everybody was friendly. The facility was pretty and had a lovely little interior garden. It just had a very, very inviting atmosphere. I even talked to some of the residents, and they joked around with me a little bit. It was very nice. They have an activity room, which is neat. I was kind of there in the early evening, so they're watching the news. The staff was very friendly.

Brookdale Westerville was awesome, but the size of the rooms were small. Otherwise, we would have gone with them. The people there were amazing, it just came down to the room size. It was such a small community and everybody knew each other, so it really had this warm feeling.

I visited this facility

We just took a quick tour of Brookdale Westerville for my mom, but it seemed like a nice facility. They seemed like they were on top of a lot of stuff. They got a lot of amenities, and it was very nice. The gentleman that talked to me was very informative, and everything was good. The location is very nice and very convenient. I looked at two rooms, but it was the same type of room. One room was on one side of the courtyard, and the other was on the other side.

Brookdale Westerville was very nice. The apartment was beautiful. They do the laundry, the meals, and they help with bathing. The staff was great, too. I enjoyed speaking to all of them. They were all very friendly, nice and very informative.

Brookdale Westerville was a smaller community. The staff there really got to know each person one-on-one. Everyone seemed happy and they were having a music activity for the residents. However, it felt like a nursing home or a hospital compared to some of the other places that I visited, which seemed almost like an apartment community. It's very compact. They have a main room as soon as you enter that's also the dining area, and that's where they were doing music. They have another gathering room on the other side and they have games and other activities.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was at Brookdale Cooper Road. Our experience there was awful; it was quite bad. We are still trying to get money back from them that we were told we would receive but still have not. The food wasn't very appetizing, but the worst part was not doing for her what we were paying for them to do for her. They did not take care of her. The staff basically wasn't helpful most of the time. Twice they threw away all of her medications and we had to pay for it to be bought again. Their billing was awful; every month there was a problem. The lady who was in charge of billing couldn't seem to handle anything correctly. We had to move my mother quickly from the hospital that we didn't feel that we had enough time to look. We didn't notice that the place was closed up, dark, and there weren't enough windows. When I spoke with the person for an hour and a half, she came to the hospital, evaluated my mom, and pretty much promised the world to us. However, we didn't get anything we were promised. My mother was there for about two months for memory care, but we had to get her out of because we kept asking them to change things and it only got worse. Because of them not taking good care of her, my mother had to go back to the hospital, and she was in the hospital for quite a while.

We placed my mother-in-law in Brookdale Westerville. It is nice and clean. Everyone is friendly. The rooms are big and clean. My mother-in-law was very resistant at first, but she adapted pretty quickly. They are in a pretty area. Everything seems to be going very well. She has been there for 2 weeks now. The staff seems very friendly, very knowledgeable, and very outgoing. They keep them pretty busy. I haven't been there all day, but every time I have gone there, there is something that my mother-in-law is doing. Also, it seems like she is eating regularly now, which she wasn't doing before. As far as all the places that I toured, Brookdale Westerville wasn't nearly as luxurious as the other ones, but my mother-in-law likes it, and it is close to my sister-in-law, so it works out better.

Brookdale Westerville was very nice and has a smaller environment. It was older but it was clean, and the staff was wonderful. They had a dementia program.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Westerville was smaller, and I didn't get as warm of a feeling as I did with the other one that my parents are staying in now. The staff was fine. I had no way of sampling the food or anything like that, but it just seemed smaller, quieter, and had a less warm environment. I liked the rooms; they actually were slightly bigger but cost a little more, too. I would suggest maybe creating a more welcoming environment.

As far as the rooms, they were clean and adequate as far as a bed. This was a double room that I saw with two twin beds, and it is nothing like what my parents are used to, so it would be a downsize from their home certainly. Brookdale Westerville looked like a remodeled facility. Their entrance way was pleasant, so I would give it a four for its appearance.

Sterling House Westerville is number 1 on my list right now. It looks very much like a large home, but it still looks like a home rather than a hospital setting. It also had an Alzheimer's unit that's associated with it that they can move to. The staff is very friendly. I was really pleased with all the staff. I like that the interior courtyards were accessible from the individual rooms and they could go out into it, weather appropriate. It's also enclosed.

Sterling House was a little more expensive, but not that much more. I saw the dining room and talked to a couple of members of the staff. They all seemed to be very nice. They play cards, bingo, and they have entertainers come in throughout the month. The dining facility may have been a little different. They had tables and I think they had small dining areas, which made it feel a little homier rather than institutionalized.

Sterling House has assisted living and memory care. It's a small facility but very clean and well-taken care of. They have nice rooms. I saw a room with very large closet and pretty good-sized bathroom and another room where the bed and the living area were. I've talked to some of the residents and they're very happy there. They did have activities going on with the people. The community did have a lot of staff and they seemed to be pretty friendly. We also went into their memory care, which was a lockdown unit. I was really impressed with it because they did have a lot of staff for their memory care residents. They only have nine residents but they have two aides to one at all times. Overall, Sterling House is a great community!

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We chose Sterling House of Westerville because of its size and the caring staff that I met prior to the decision. It is not so large that it would be hard for an older person to adjust to. The building is well cared for and the living facility seems to be nice. They are able to maintain it in a very good condition. It has an interior courtyard so that people could go outside in a secure environment. My mother got a one-bedroom apartment, which is next to the largest one that they have available and it is very spacious. They have individual and group activities every day. They have published calendar that they send out monthly to the family and the residents. They have arts and crafts, they do bingo, they have hangman, they watch television together. The general living room space are well and put to good use by variety of activities. The only thing that I don't like particularly well is that they, for good reasons, have limited access. You have to ring the bell to be admitted to the facility even if you are a residents there is no immediate access on either entering or exiting the facility on your own. Someone has to come and do that for you. The food does lack some creativity and could be improved upon. But I am happy with where my mom is right now and my mom is also happy. I recommend them to others.

The facility could have been better, but it was very great. There was a few rooms for the residents to go and have fun in. This is where caroling took place and the residents reacted very well. The residents seemed happy and this made me think the facility and workers may have been fairly nice. There was a smell that could have been better taken care of in the facility. Overall, it was really great though. We went around and sang to residents in their rooms as well and the rooms were nice. The food was good as well. The facility was pretty wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandmother was a resident of this facility I felt thta the amenties of this property were top notch. In the process of trying to find an assisted living center for her we felt extremely guilty in not being able to car efor her ourselves. However upon visiting this facility we were put at ease to find that she was in great care. The amenities included several things such as a beauty shop, laundry service, library, and even an ice cream shop. My grandmother loved ice cream so it was definitely a great selling point. One drawback I would say is that the units are sort of small for the price. But the caare and service the staff provides is top notch. SO i mostly definitely would say the cost is derived from the amenities and the staff.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My family decided to admit my Grandmother to the Sterling House of Westerville last year after she suffered a major stroke and was no longer able to take care of herself. After countless visits to the home, I became very familiar with the facility and got to know many of the staff members by name. Sterling has a fairly pleasant environment; the facility was always clean and the temperature seemed consistent and well regulated. One thing that bothered me, however, was the hospital-type-feel that was immediately evident upon entering. The building smells and looks like a hospital- even the staff are dressed like hospital employees. Nonetheless the staff was always very nice and helpful with my Grandmother. The food was also surprisingly very good- I ate there myself on several occasions and had a good, well balanced meal each time. Over all I would give Sterling House of Westerville a 3 Star Rating.

I just recently had a tour of the Sterling House of Westerville in Columbus. They offer really great programs to their residents, including Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Sterling House of Westerville is beautifully built and deigned, I really liked the interior setup. It's cozy, comfortable, and neatly cleaned. During my tour, I had the opportunity to speak with some of the residents here. They all said that they enjoy every day at Sterling House of Westerville, and that they wouldn't want to live elsewhere. One resident mentioned the dining is similar to a dinner on a beautiful cruise.
