Sunrise At Parma

Sunrise At Parma was nice but overpriced. It was gorgeous. The outdoors was gorgeous. The inside was nice. Everything inside was very nice. It's just that the prices were very high. And the staff members weren't as warm or as caring as the staff at the other place.

Sunrise At Parma was a very nice-looking place. It was a smaller place than the others I've toured, they had about 50 residents. It felt very homey to me. In a lot of the other places I went to, you hardly see anybody, but when we were here, you see people sitting down to eat, you see people walking around, and you see people sitting outside. When you walk in there was a dog sleeping, it just had a very nice atmosphere. The people that we met were super nice. The best thing was that it was not huge and we saw a lot of the residents when we visited. The one who gave us the tour was Lauren, and she was super accommodating. We took our dad and we were telling her that we were trying to make it not look like a planned visit, and we asked her not to say anything about the cost upfront because that would skew my dad. So she was super nice, she did everything we asked, and she was awesome.

My mother was only in Sunrise at Parma for a month, then she passed away. I visited several nursing homes and Sunrise seemed the best. They were very easy to work with, no difficulty trying to get her admitted or anything. Every time I called, somebody got back to me right away. They answered emails and phone calls and things like that. She got great care. She was in memory care. The staff would try and engage her in activities. She was 97, so she wasn't happy that I moved her. She wasn't that eager to participate, and her mobility was declining, too, but they tried to engage her to eat. The place always looked clean and neat when I was there. She wasn't the most receptive to being there, but it was best for her. She always would go for dessert, but she'd be kind of picky with the other stuff. I think it was the best. I liked the way it was set up and being it was memory care, I didn't have to worry that she would escape. There were alarms on the doors leading out and things like that. I didn't have to worry that way. I would come and do her laundry, but she never looked like she was dirty or anything else like that when I would go to see her. Every other day, I went to see her and they always had her dressed and ready to go whatever was up for the day. They had activities, different trivia, and they'd watch movies and things like that. They had a big communal area. The other residents there would be like, "Well, she didn't do this today" or that kind of thing. There was a view from her room. There was a birdfeeder and flowers outside her window. I thought we could get her bed and a chair and a little end table in the room. Besides the closet space and the bathroom, I thought it was big enough. It didn't look like a hospital room. It looked more like somebody's living room kind of thing as opposed to an institution. I didn't taste the food, but it looked desirable. It didn't look like prison food or anything else like that. They had activities in the common area for the other people that weren't in memory care. They had different places that they could go, but technically it was still during COVID, so there's not much going out that they could do. I saw the residents from the assisted living part coming in. Maybe they would just take them out on a bus ride to look at different things. Once things got better, they had different places that they would go. In the memory care, they said it was a little bit too much to try and keep them corralled from wandering off and things like that. It looked like they had lots of things to do for them in the assisted living facility. I saw them doing puzzles and crafts as I would walk into the memory care. People would sit around and watch TV if they wanted to. They had physical therapy that I saw them do and things like that as well.

The staff at Sunrise at Parma was very friendly and caring, and you could see that they have a good relationship with the residents. The residents were out and talking to each other, and they seemed to be enjoying it. I knew right away I couldn't afford it, and it's disappointing because it was nice. The place was well done. It looked very good. It was all clean, and everything was neat. In terms of location, it was on the outskirts so that's good. I think they had a pool. They had a place for activities and exercise.

The staff at Sunrise at Parma was very good. The place was very cozy, and the residents were always up and about and engaged. I saw them doing an activity. The room was just too small. The food was good. I saw both their assisted living and memory care facilities. They had an activity room, birds, a dog, a game room, a library, and gardens.

Our mother has been a resident in the memory care unit for 3 years. My brother, sister and I are very pleased with the care she has been given. The staff genuinely cares about her and makes sure she is comfortable.
