My sister put my father at Manor care a couple of months ago. I was out of the country and when I came to Cleveland to visit him I was shocked at the deplorable conditions he is living in at Manor care Euclid Beach. Whenever you get off the elevator The second floor reeks of urine as you walk down the hall towards the patience of bedrooms the smell of urine gets worse. I went the other day and my father smelled terrible they had not washed him up or have him to get dress when I complained about it then someone came in and said he didn't want to wash up. I feel this is something that should be mandatory for residents to be made to wash up and get dressed every day. My father said they don't come every day to get him cleaned up. They leave him lying in the bed and unwashed and undressed every day. Someone from the state who licenses this nursing home should do a surprise visit and see how deplorable the conditions are at Manor care Euclid Beach .I don't think anyone at this nursing facility actually gives a darn about the residents here. The room has not been dusted in the 11 days that I have been visiting Cleveland.

Staff is uncaring and neglectful. Twice my uncle has had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance due to post operative negligence on the part of the staff resulting in massive infection. He is blind and deaf as the result of massive head trauma from a motorcycle accident, and several times I have come to visit to find him unbathed and undressed in a bed that reeksed of urine. Staff has been notified by many family members and the last run to the hospital was definately preventable if the staff had only heeded the repeated complaints of discomfort made by my uncle and my great aunt, his mother. He had surgery to put a plate in his head, and the negligence of the staff in caring for the wound AND DRESSINGS caused his head to swell like a melon. Many times, the staff was asked to call his doctor, and they said they did.We finally contacted him ourselves upon finding my uncle in deplorable condition, and the doctor stated at that time that he had not been contacted by the staff at all. He ordered an ambulatory removal to a local hospital where emergency surgery was performed to drain the infection from the surgical site. A negligence case against the staff is pending.

3 years ago, my ex-husband was placed into this facility after surviving a motorcycle accident which left him blind, partially deaf, and in a wheelchair. He is still a current resident at this facility. Being completely blind, and on medicaid(he had no insurance at the time of the accident), his options for a long-term care facility were limited. We did tours of several and chose this one because it seemed the cleanest and most friendly, as well as being close to his home and elderly mom. There are 2 levels, each with sun rooms and eating rooms, and an abundant staff. However, after he was moved in, we realized that they prepare, and are at their best, for these tours. There are areas outside for you, and the staff, to be able to take residents out for fresh air. However the home is strategically located in EXTREMELY close proximity to several very violent housing projects and the surrounding neighborhood has degenerated significantly over the last several years, so taking your loved one outside is generally discouraged by the staff. The night shift nurses are lazy and indifferent, and the general attitude of ALL of the staff members seems to be to keep the residents as medicated as possible. There have been times when I have gone to visit and he has been so heavily medicated that he could barely speak and drooled like mad. We are guessing, from reactions when we tried to get his meds reduced, that this is to reduce the amounts of calls to the desk/nurse calls from the patients. They leave him in his bed around the clock when they can, and rarely make any attempt to dress him. Rehabilitation seems to take a back seat to medication, because we really had to contact ALOT of people and be extremely persistent in order to get him on any kind of therapy program...even a life-skills program for him do learn to deal with his blindness was like pulling teeth. I have been on the phone with him when he has asked for help to get cleaned up and dressed, and the staff is rude and "ghetto" nasty. They ARE NOT that way when I am there in person. On the contrary, when he has visitors in his room, the staff is nothing but courteous. However, I spend several hours a week on the phone with him(he has a special phone because of his partial deafness), and the attitude of the staff while there is no-one present is COMPLETELY different. He has been there for 3 years and has settled in, but if I had to do it over, I would take a spontaneous tour(not a scheduled one) and probably not have chosen this home. This was our first time having to deal with
