I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Finding the proper home for your loved one is so important and stressful. We were blessed to have chosen SMH. With my Mom unable to see her family for 9 months due to covid, the staff at SMH became her only family and they pulled her through. My Mom was a resident for almost 4 years, this became her home. The staff is very caring, the rooms are clean and they have many activities during the week. Daily mass was very important for my mom and the food was also very good. I strongly recommend SMH !!

My mom lived at St Margaret’s for a little over a year. She suffered with dementia, severe arthritis and was legally blind. She passed peacefully under Hospice of Cinti care along with the wonderful people at St Margaret’s. The renovations made over the last couple years are really nice and the chapel is beautiful. Rooms and housekeeping are adequate. Majority of aides are very attentive and caring. Sister Kathleen’s visits were full of live and always uplifting to mom and family. Mom thought the food was very good and the resident activities were numerous, appropriate, and fun. Admissions and billing staff were easy to work with. Thank you to everyone for mom’s care, I know she had plenty hard dementia related days.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I came to St Margaret Hall after back surgery. Sharon Conley and Richard Slannery made sure all my material needs were met. They could not have been more helpful. Esmeret went above and beyond being helpful to me. She would peek her head in at night and asked me if I needed an ice pack for my back, Just one of the thoughtful things she did for me. Charmaine was also a caring staff member. Sister Kathleen came in and chatted with me every so often, which I looked forward to. Their food was very good. All and all my stay was excellent . Thanks everyone at Margaret Hall for your excellent care.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Well, my mom had broken her femur and then my dad had a heart attack and a triple bypass and we my dad and I had already chosen St Margaret Hall for my mom's recovery, so when dad needed somewhere to go it was an easy choice. They put their rooms next to each other other, which made my mom feel quite a bit better. My dad was in and out in no time, but mom was there for much longer (a broken femur takes a decent amount of rehabilitation). In that time she racked up a nice size bill. They have worked with us on a payment plan that we can afford, but they spelled her name incorrectly on the bill for months. They also send a monthly bill with no return envelope. You'd think that a for-profit facility could at least afford the envelope. Anyway, the head nurse in the rehab facility was exceptional. I always knew my parents were in good hands when they were there. Also, there was one woman who cleaned that took very good care of my mom. The aides for the most part were good, but one in particular needed to learn a better bedside manner, particularly with people of an advanced age. She would constantly let my mom sit in dirty adult diapers for way too long and take soooo much time to get her pain medication when requested (which my mom was prescribed to get). It came down to a sit down with everyone, but nothing changed. So, just St Margaret Hall definitely has its good points, but be aware that it has bad ones too.

I placed my mom in St. Margaret Hall. The mother of my wife's best friend was in the same facility and had a great experience there. It seemed a good fit for my mom, it was closer to me, and it used to be a nunnery convent. The rooms are nice. There's not much turnover in the staff, and they're very nice. The food is excellent. She has enjoyed everything about it. She just finished her rehab, so she has not joined in the activities yet.

I would highly recommend St. Margaret Hall to friends/family who would ask me for a recommendation. My father was there for about three months. HIs private room was adequate for his needs. He couldn't see well or hear well and he had neuropathy in his hands and legs. He was aware of his surroundings and responded well to all staff. I saw very caring aides attend to my dad as well as nurses. At the care conference, I was treated as if I was family and everyone involved wanted my dad to have all his needs taken care of.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was admitted just before Thanksgiving in 2016 after three short stays in three west side nursing facilities for rehab over the past two years. Admissions staff were helpful and accommodating. My father's finances were such that he would pay privately for two or three months and then turn to Medicaid. Many facilities will tell you that they don't have a Medicaid bed available. St. Margaret Hall him accepted without question. As a surveyor (inspector) for the Ohio Department of Health for 25 years, I spent a great deal of time in southwestern-central Ohio inspecting nursing homes for federal and state regulations. St Margaret has nearly all private rooms with nice views of the city park and surrounding area. We had no problem getting a private room. With respect to the staff of St. Margaret Hall, in all of my experiences and surveys over the past 25 years, never have I met nursing and direct care staff so kind and accommodating. At one point, my father had slid down in his recliner chair in his bedroom. I purposely asked an aide to help me get him repositioned knowing that she was not his assigned aide. Rather than hearing the aide tell me that she would tell my aide or tell the nurse, she stopped what she was doing or gathering supplies for the meal and helped me reposition my father, without question. When I said thank you she stated that it was ok and that it was her job to help. My father was on hospice. It's not customary to provide restorative nursing to a person on hospice. St. Margaret management suggested my father get restorative nursing which involved trained therapy staff assisting him in using his hands for eating and using utensils and in dressing. He not only accepted the therapy he was thriving. Therapy staff also spent time talking to him and helping him to adjust to his new living environment. The restorative staff were great. Another example occurred when I was feeding my father. I noticed he had trouble chewing some of the meat. When I asked the charge nurse if the diet consistency could be changed, she said yes and the diet was changed by the next meal the next day. With respect to the food, my father complained in the three previous nursing homes of cold food, bad taste and cold coffee. He did not complain one time of cold food or coffee or bad tasting food. He gained eight pounds in three months at St. Margaret Hall despite his condition and prognosis. Although his body was failing, his mind was very clear. About a week before he passed away, I asked him "you do like this place (St. Margaret) better than the other places you've been". His response was "Oh yeah". One additional point is that for a strong Catholic like my father, St Margaret could not have been a better fit. The Carmelite Sisters were frequently observed in the hallway and speaking to my father helping him cope with his end of life struggles. My father had the option to attend mass every day in the facilities beautiful chapel. Although he chose only one time, he did receive communion in his bedroom daily. The facility truly has a mission to care for it's residents. As an ex-surveyor and family member of a former resident, I would highly recommend St. Margaret Hall to anyone of any denomination,

I visited this facility

I would not want my dad to live at St. Margaret Hall. It’s very antiquated and felt, to me, like a place to die, not like a place to enjoy the rest of your life.

Mom is now two years at St Margaret Hall. The number of staff and the pairing of the staff is what I like the most. It’s an older and very simple place. The food seems fine, and we have already recommended this place.

I am a friend or relative of resident

my sister and I decided St Margaret Hall could provide the necessary help our mom needed on a daily basis. Especially as her health declined. That was not to be. The nurses were pretty good but the aides were the ones who provided daily care and they were terrible. Turnover was constant and there was always new aides who had no idea how to take care of the patients. There were never enough of them either. St Margaret Hall's motto is all about love and that couldn't have been farther from the truth. Employees were way too busy to provide any kind of warmth and patience. Not their fault though at least most of them. In 15 months, my mom lost 25 lbs, all independence and passed away. We were told she had some dementia and kept saying that to the end. My sister and I kept questioning Alzheimer's and they said NO! And what did the resident doctor state on her death certificate,,,Alzheimer's! What kind of place is this? Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't put my dog there. Now let me tell you about the end when my mom was dying. Not one nurse, doctor, etc seemed to notice my mom was at "the end"...and this is what they do for a living??? Got to question that over and over. It took me to call hospice twice within a couple of days to say she needed round the clock comfort care. My God! What happens to residents when no family members are around. I can't really imagine a worse facility than St Margaret Hall

I visited this assisted living home when my grandmother was gravely ill. She had been sick for a while but finally went to hospice at Saint Margaret Hall.I didn't really get to see the staff much because we visited after hours, but there were some clean security guards who let us in at night. From what I saw my grandmother was well taken care of. There isn't much you can do for someone at that time of life, but she was clean and my grandfather had nothing to complain about. The room was clean and comforting, but it wasn't luxurious. The place could use a little updating but other than that it was a nice quite building. I guess because it is run by nuns they keep it close to the simpler side of life. They must have been a wonderful place though, because my grandfather wanted all donations at the funeral to go to the home.
