I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother-in-law has been in Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation Center for three weeks now. They have really been good to him, and we have been pleased with his care so far. The staff were very nice. He has been in a private room. They have activities, but he doesn't go. I know they had bingo. I didn't read the calendar, but I knew someone was going to bingo and to different things. It's for really sick people, so I don't think many of them go activities that much. It needs to be updated. As much as they're charging compared to other places, they need to have updated rooms instead of broken down pieces of furniture and stuff. The rooms are so small, so when you have to share, you can't hardly move in there. I don't agree with how small those rooms are. I don't think they're very good with activities. The advantage of it is being close to home. They're too expensive compared to other facilities. This is just convenient to us and near home, but I would not want to live there. They don't get bathed when they're supposed to get a bath. The floor is not as clean as it should be. We do keep his room cleaned, but he doesn't get a bath when he's supposed to. When he first went, the food looked good for a week. After that, it went way downhill, and I don't know what happened there. It smelled like poop every time you go in the door. Ventilation is not very good, he said.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Our mother was placed in this place in November 2013 she was there one week before she passed away...She was found unresponsive for two days and on the third day I said we need to call 911 and the nurse said she had to get it approved before she could call. My mama was taken to the hospital where she was in renal failure and had food in her mouth where they tried to feed her while she was unresponsive. I hated this place and would not recommend anyone staying there.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a patient there July2013 to September 2013.. I had a disease called Blastomycosis and had been in hospital for 1o days until I was move to This facility to recover. This facility started out being a good place for me. Then everything went wrong.. We were being served food that was raw and there was times when I was told There was no more food and they had given my tray away. They kept running out of my life saving medication and telling me at last minute they had no more. I was under constant stress. I had 4 open wounds on my body thay had to ce changed twice a day but that didn't happen. I had to ask them to please change them for me or when will some one change them for me.I had the cook coming in my room screaming at me cause I said the food was raw. My room mate constantly was pooping all over toliets and leaving mess and took staff hours to come clean it up.There were mice running up and down hallway at night time.Snacks were not given to us twice a day sometimes no snacks. I was deathly sick with Blastomycosis but told if I didn't co the rehab exercises everyday sick or not that I would be thrown out of facility Also I was on disability before coming in this facilityand was better enough to go home at one point but was told if I did Medicaid would not pay for continueing meds which was also a lie to keep me there to eventually get my ssi check. No security in facility. male cnas were putting clothes on my naked room mate. which she said felt uncomfortable. Shower days for me was onc a week on Mondays. When that time came no one came to get me for my shower. was told short staffed. could not get a shower till next week to bath in sink., Do not put your loved in this facility. I asked for the nurse to come see me and change my wounds but she never came I had to call her on my cell phone to get her attention. My daughter had to call them to get them to order my medicine in a timely manner which was a joke to theses people..Please don't put your family members in this place. I managed to get out alive others will not be so lucky.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father was there he would not eat or drink. I worked weekends so I was not there but I called and ask them to put an IV in him because of dehydration. When I went to see him I could hear fluid in his lugs when i walked in the room after 10 seconds I said he has aspiration pnuemonia ,dehydration and a urinary tract infection. I had them send him to hospital and he in fact had everything I said. They had let him lie there all weekend like this and do nothing. They tried to put an IV in him and could not so they didn't do anything else. I hope you will not put your loved ones there for this to happen to them. i had to rate them with a star to be able to submit this but they do not deserve one star
