I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My loved one was at this facility for several weeks. On admission conference I was greeted by a wonderful lady named Katie who did the admission process. Melissa did the business part and was super helpful. The social workers were super sweet. As well as the nursing staff. Stacey the administrator met us upon admission and was very nice. Therapy staff was great. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I will only speak to the situation currently, in North Carolina, and in this nursing home, specifically. My daughter-in-law was unable to visit her mother since she was admitted to this facility, due to the Corona Virus pandemic. We all completely understood and appreciated the safety measures that were being taken to protect everyone working and residing there. A little over two weeks ago, her mother died of Covid-19. We have the death certificate. This tells us that safety measures are not being enforced, because in all this time, no relative has been allowed to visit the facility. Therefore, an employee exposed my son's mother-in-law to this killing virus. My daughter-in-law has received a postcard from this nursing home. Period. There has been no phone call, no visit, no explanation. Nothing. I'm too angry to type another word.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has lived her for two years. After all the nursing homes she has been at in the Gastonia I like this one the best. She has made lots of friends. They have a lot of activities that the residents can be involved in. I am a flight attendant and I don't worry about my Mom while I am gone. I have had some problems with the laundry. They have lost a lot of her clothes and refuse to reimburse me for them. I cannot bring anything too nice for my mother to wear because it will be gone. I can't tell you how many pair of black pants I have bought her that go missing. There is a kitty that lives there name Tiger and he brings life into the place. He makes it warms and inviting. My mom loves him so much. I would recommend this place. They are good to my Mother. I would also like to mention that the staff communicates with me. When something is going on with my Mom they always call me or talk to me while I am there. I have had problems with staff not communicating with me at other places. They also have more employees than other nursing homes. Most nursing home are several understaffed. White Oak seems to have more employees which helps with me feeling like she is taken care of while I am gone. I do know that these employees are severely underpaid and they have to do so much in the care of these people. It is an extremely hard job and they all need a raise. Their job is very important and underappreciated.

I visited this facility

White Oak seemed very nice. They have good size beds, and the rooms are updated. They seemed bigger. They only had one driver to take people to appointments.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

White Oak Manor deals with people with dementia. It seems OK, and it's pretty clean. My grandmother is with another person in two beds. There are two or three meals a day, there's the bath, and snacks if she needs snacks. They have someone to watch them during the day. They had activities going on. They invite her to the activities, and they encourage other girls to go to the activities and mingle to get out of the rooms.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

In advance, I would have wanted to know that if I didn't come at least twice a day to visit my loved one who is in a nursing home, that she would receive minimal care, be forced to sit up beyond 9:30 pm at night, despite having edema and heart issues after being up all day in a wheel chair. I also would like to have known that despite a resident having dementia, and refuses to take a bath, that the resident would not receive a bath unless someone steps in inquires as to why. I would also like to have know in advance that if I didn't come twice a day, every day, urine would be allowed to pool in the floor until it dried by nature. Now that I know these things, I am diligent and show up twice a day except when weather doesn't allow or another relative can pinch hit for me at least once a day. I interact on my loved one's behalf with the nursing home administrator , the social workers, her physician and those who have the most contact with her; the CNA's. Diligence is a required effort if your loved one is to be cared for even in the minimalist percentile of care from a for profit nursing home. The lack of professionalism in care, I believe comes from not maintaining enough competent staff, and in not maintaining checks and balances on the employees, by not providing continuous training of employees , and failing to take action when things go wrong until the family or lack of care demands that attention be given to the problem.
