I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

When you walk into the building you are hit with the smell of feces and urine and walk in to your loved ones room and realize that they are one of the reasons for the smell. Then they try and cover it up with a pad and a trash bag like no one will notice. They tell you not to get up and wait on them to go to the bathroom but will make you wait too long then make you sit in it and not change your bedding properly. Paying out of pocket almost 7,000 dollars and this is the treatment you receive? What a shame to have people care for you who do not care or have compassion.

My dad has been at Peak-Gastonia ever since Covid was still going strong. We had to communicate with him through his window. Now since it’s not as bad we are able to visit anytime. Miss Barbara in reception was a joy everyday. She knew us frequent visitors by name and helped you to always have a pleasant visit with family or friend. Everyone from the office staff to the nurses and CNA’s if you visit a lot like I do they get to know you too. Housekeeping to the lunchroom staff are great also. Mrs. Dot is who I know the best and she is a gem, so sweet. These residents love their Tuesday and Thursday Bingo. They have a resident council, everyday Miss Terry andRebecca make sure you are kept busy with some activity. I have read some of the reviews and you have some good-some bad, I personally think my dad likes to be around people his own age and has made some great friends with the staff and residents.

My mother was in a nursing home called Peak Resources - Gastonia when she first got out of the hospital and it was the worst place we've ever seen. It was off on Xray Drive. They would leave my mother wet all day and all night. She could use a potty if they would put her on it but they put her on it one time and left her there for 3 hours before they remembered her. It was just an awful experience. I wouldn't put my dog up there. We went and looked before I put her over there, and the rooms that they showed me were clean and nice. It's just that the nurses are too short-staffed. My mother wouldn't eat anything that they brought her. She stayed there for about 3 weeks. I think that the state needs to check them out and do something about them, that's my opinion. There would be people hollering in that place all night long, wanting to be fed, and nobody would come and feed them. It was just a horrible experience. I got her out of there the first chance I got. The state should check them out. I'm not just trying to be mean but those people need to be checked out. I feel sorry for those older people that don't have anybody that checks on them.

This is the worst facility I have ever seen . My mother was here after back surgery and the entire time she was there the staff would ignore request for assistance getting to the restroom. They never gave her the meds she needed. We finally moved her to a different facility after she had to call home to get my father to come help her back in to the bed after the staff left her sitting in a chair from 3 am till after 7 am. This place needs to be closed. She was there for a day and a half before they even brought her a tray of cold food. We took her meals to her during this time. We also had to provide her walker and wheelchair.

My dad is in Peak Resources – Gastonia. I absolutely love it. They have great staff and therapists. My dad loves it and I was really impressed. They have semi- and private rooms, and right now my dad is in a semi-private room. My dad likes the food and it looks really good. They have church, games, and social hours. They have a library and a beauty salon. They've been really good to my dad. I'd like to see them have more activities, but what they do have is good for the patients.

I visited this facility

This is the worst nursing home I have ever been to! My mother in law was there for rehab when she fell and broke her pelvis. The staff was rude and lazy and would totally ignore the needs of the people staying there. My mother in law could barely walk and they would not come help her go to the bathroom, bring her meds, necessity, or anything she needed when she needed it. They would let here urinate on her self even after she would press the call button multiple times! She was only given 4 baths the whole time she was there and would often lay in her on urine and excrement due to there lack of care. She literally would have to get her self out of bed, into the wheelchair just to go to the bathroom or even get a drink after hours of waiting while the so called staff would be taking constant breaks and talking right outside her room. This kind of neglect leads to unecissary deaths when you have that kind of poor care. The staff was often rude to her and ya when we would visit and I would highly recommend against anyone every sending a loved one there. The smell of the facility was rancid as cleaning was rarely done by the lazy staff. This place needs to be under investigation and shut down. We will never ever go back to Peak resources as long as we live. I tried to give it negative five stars but that's not an option.

Peak was a nice facility, and as soon as you walked in, it was more of the laminated hardwood floor, which I think is better for the residents, but it smelled like a nursing home. They do have private rooms, which is where he was, and that one was bigger, but the staff wasn't as personable although there were some that were nice enough. That was one of the things I did not like, and my father did not like how some of them treated him. He did not like the cable or the food there. He could have an on-site vehicle there; however, he could not drive at that point and still can't. I think it was just the cleanliness. In my personal opinion, if you just use a little more bleach and a little more Pine-sol, it wouldn't have that smell of a nursing home, and that is a turn-off for me. If I smell that every time I walk in, I am not happy. Overall, it was not a bad facility. It just was not for him.

I thought about writing this for a long time but didn't for some reason. Now I think people should know about this place. My grandfather spend a few week here after a heart attack. He also had COPD and needed to be on oxygen 24 hours a day. I tried to visit him every day. One day I went early afternoon and I found him in his wheelchair with his portable oxygen bottle attach to his wheelchair and it was completely empty. I immediately went and got the nurses and made sure he was hooked up to oxygen again. I went to the administrators office and discussed the problem with her. I filed a report and I felt like nothing was done. Two days later my grandfather was dead. I am not saying they are responsible for his death. I am just stating that there are many times when I found him not being taken care of properly. His roommate was not taken care of properly either. His family was out of town and he didn't have visitors unless of the weekend. I had to go find people to help him as well. Do not under an circumstances send your love ones here!!!

I visited this facility

Peak Resources Gastonia was an older facility, but no smell. I didn't smell anything when I walked in there. They were having some activities, and there was a lady doing exercise. The staff was nice, hospitable, and very kind. The rooms were semi-private and small, and the beds were kind of old hospital beds. The dining room was clean.

My brother-in-law was in a place called Peak Resources in Gastonia. He was there for a couple of months. They have an activity room, and I like the people there for the most part. The rooms were alright. It is an older place, but it was alright. They have some semi-private rooms where they share a bathroom. They have a party room that is not real large but it's not bad. They have a nice cafeteria, and the food is good. They have a small room off the lobby where you can watch TV and wait if you have an appointment or something like that. It's not bad.

I don't like this facility. My grandmother has been there for almost 2 weeks. The staff isint very attentive. My grandmother was laying in fecal matter in her sheets for over 24 hours. The way the bathrooms are set up for the patients is terrible.. Four people male and female sharing one small bathroom is very inconvenient and un sanitary. The staff is NOT Attentive as mentioned on their website. The food has usually been served cold.. It seems like they have short staff. I wish I had the money to have my grandmother at home with 24 hour fare. This place is not a place that I would recommend.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

A relative stayed in this facility for about half a year. Most of my visits were in the late afternoon since I worked at a full time job. The staff seemed friendly and would engage in conservation with me. At the nursing station or in the room, all staff members would answer my questions or go find out the answers. The staff seemed caring towards the residents. The facility is not as new as some of the others. The food seemed nutritious when meals were delivered to the room and when we ate in the dining room. There were a number of activities that residents could participate in such as bingo, ice cream socials, religious activities, etc. These were posted on a board that was easy to see in the main circle around the nurses' station. Laundry was done for the residents. This was convenient. Overall I thought it was a caring and respectful place.
