I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Dad moved into Brookdale Asheville Overlook. They're really good, competent, and they seem to care about my father and about other residents that are there. But more so competence in dealing with dementia. He lives in assisted living, but they're able to care for him there. He's not a wanderer. His apartment is one room. It's kind of like a little studio with a bathroom. It's not fancy, but it fits his needs. They take them out. They go out to eat or go on trips to Wal-Mart, different restaurants in the area. Family comes to visit with them. They have beautiful porches that the residents take and use. And there are always people out there, it's not just the obligatory fortune rockers. A lot of people sit out there. They have a walking club. And he's made friends there so far. The food is better than some places and not better than others.

I visited this facility

We went to Brookdale Asheville Overlook. I thought that that would be a great option, but maybe not for a couple or two people just because the size of the room was small. But I feel like they knew their residents well and were meeting their needs and it was very clean. I liked it. It just didn't meet our needs. Everyone seemed happy to be there. They're attentive. It seemed clean. The dining area seemed very comparable to the other place. They had alternative options.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Asheville Overlook was a little bit more rundown and not as clean as the others we looked at. I didn't have a favorable first impression, but the staff members were very considerate, very thorough, very informative, and very helpful. The rooms were nice. They had plenty of nice size rooms, but the settings were not as nice. Everything was a little bit worn and appeared not as clean. They had a beauty salon, a hydrotherapy room and a physical therapy room, which is really nice for residents who need PT, OT, or speech therapy. The pricing was on par with other places.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has been in Brookdale Asheville Overlook for almost three months now. It is very homey. It has been a good experience. The staff members are very friendly and very caring. The room is like an apartment but my mother has a roommate. She is very happy with the meals. The place is very nice but it is pretty pricey. Well, compared to other places, it is reasonable.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is at Brookdale Asheville Overlook. It’s small and I wish it was a little bit larger. The care seems good, it's definitely sufficient for my dad, and they provide meds. He plays bridge, but they don’t have enough people to play bridge, so that’s a big minus. They serve three meals a day, the food is good, and my dad likes it. They have bingo, but the stuff he’s interested in, they don’t offer, and so he’s a bit bored. The staff is good, but not great, and there was a period of adjustment.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Asheville Overlook wanted to cater to an older population. It's a newer facility and the rooms were more of their own thing. The cost was right at the limit of somebody who has some retirement, but we have to end up on Medicare or Medicaid. The staff member who accommodated me was extremely good even though they didn't want my sister there because she's younger.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Asheville Overlook was on the smaller side and it wasn't as new. There were single bedrooms. The staff was nice, but I didn't really spend time there other than to get a tour. It was not nearly as nice as where my parents are. I didn't try the food, but the dining area was OK. They have an activities room. The lady who gave me the tour was very informative. She had a lot of good insight into elderly living. She explained different falling risks that they have and how they reduce them in their environment, as well as risks in general, so that was helpful.

I visited this facility

I visited Brookdale Asheville Overlook. They had a lot of really good activities. The staff was very helpful. They were very interactive with all of the people. They knew their names when they were walking down the halls. They were renovating their facility, and making more modern. It was just a very nice, clean, and well-balanced facility. The staff impressed me most. The dining area was very nice. It was bright. I had French door that was very pretty.

I was able to visit Brookdale Asheville Overlook. The facility looked very depressing, but they said that they were renovating. My mom would not have even considered living there. The woman who we talked to was wonderful. The staff is great, but the facility is not.

I visited this facility

i have visited this facility multiple times. It is not one I would recommend. They are not fully staffed, and the staff they do have are over worked. My grandmother was in the facility and every time we came to visit, trash, laundry, soiled bed pads/towels, and plates with food covered the hallways. The staff act friendly to your face, but only because you're the one "paying the bill." My grandmother was so mistreated, and her medicine was never given at the right time. The food choices are horrible, and they serve the same meals every week. This place should be ashamed for speaking so highly of themselves. If you have a loved you, do NOT send them to Brookedale.

I visited this facility

Brookdale Asheville was well kept, and it was very clean, but they were not staffed enough. The rooms could be a little larger. The apartments were small. They have activities just about every hour every day. They try to keep them pretty busy and occupied.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My grandmother was a resident for years until her recent passing. This is a wonderful facility! She was loved by the staff and she loved them. We could not have imagined her as relaxed as she was.

I visited this facility

We visited Asheville Manor, but we were not quite impressed. They were very nice, but I really felt like the facility was a little bit older, outdated, and not that nice. The staff was very nice, and I thought the sanitation was OK. We didn't try the food, but their menu looked very good, and the dining area was nice with tablecloths and it was a fairly good size. They had a chef, and they introduced the chef to us. However, they had a lot of dementia patients, and I don't think that's always the best thing.

I visited this facility

We dropped by Asheville Manor because we heard it from our daughter-in-law. They had very nice room where the family could sit and talk. It was a shared room and the furniture were nice. The meals looked great and well-balanced. I would recommend this to others.

I visited this facility

this facility was very nice, including personal housing for each resident, and very spacious housing. the staff were were friendly, and directed us around the facilities with care and were very informative. they told us how the lawns are mowed every tuesday, at 8:30 AM, and how on Friday and Saturday nights Bingo and Bachi ball are played by the residents. my mother truly seemed appreciate the individuality and independence allowed by the facility. the only complaints mother had were that a couple trash bins seemed to be neglected, as in they were a little over full for her liking. she said she would gladly live in the facilities, but was put off by the price, though i thought the peaceful scenery and fresh air would do her well. the walking trails were what particularly won me over as they reminded mother of her childhood home and she loves to take walks and hikes almost daily. i would recommend these facilities to anybody who can afford to live here, and i hope that i live in an assisted living community this nice when it is my time

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Asheville Manor seemed like a very peaceful and enjoyable residence. They were not at all bothered by visitors. The staff seemed to go out of their way in order to keep us "happy." We were shown great hospitality from the moment we walked in the door, and we were asked several times if we needed assistance of any kind. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the staff treated our family and my grandmother. My grandmother-being the pessimist she is-said that the staff was only being nice because we were visiting and they wanted to make a good impression on "those paying the bills," but I think she may have been exaggerating a little. The facility was very nice and very clean, and it didn't have that weird hospital/nursing home smell. There are a lot of trees and the landscaping and "relaxation park" were very nice. I would this home for anyone looking for a place to put a loved family member that they can no longer look after.
