I went to Brookdale Asheboro and spoke with the activity director. She was the one who gave me the tour. One thing that impressed me was that she said their activities are geared toward the interests of the residents. They have a woman in memory care who was a big runner in her past so they walk every day with her. There's also another resident who likes to join that woman. So, daily walks are something I know my mom would love, which I don't see everywhere, and I was impressed by that. The facility was clean. The people seemed caring and there was some longevity among the staff members. The rooms were nice. There was a courtyard and a space for doing some gardening. The dining room looked nice and clean and had tablecloths in it.

I visited both the assisted living and memory care units at Brookdale Asheboro. The tour guides were extremely helpful. I was surprised at the smallness of the facility, which could be good or bad. They explained that they would be putting in more chairs per table in the dining room now that some of the COVID restrictions have been lifted. We were shown two different levels of rooms. Once we saw the second room, we thought, "Who would even consider the first one?" It was a very nice room. Some of the things were very nice, but other things looked a little cluttered. They had some carpet cleaners there, which is good to see. It's good to see that they keep it clean. It looked a little weather beaten. They showed me a weekly schedule of activities, and it looked OK. On the assisted living side, there were some people who were doing some sort of activity in one of the rooms. I met the executive director and the sales manager, who assisted us in going around. She was still learning the job, but they were both extremely helpful, and they answered any questions I had. They talked about medication schedules for people who need medication help. They talked about the price of the room. In addition to the basic price for room and board, there would be an additional monthly fee depending on the level of medical support. They were extremely helpful and very forthcoming, and they talked about the pros and cons of the rooms. They were doing a very good sales pitch. I was extremely impressed, and it felt very warm and open. I was a little disappointed in the food, however. Before my mother passed away, she lived in another facility, and it had a dining room that served breakfast between such and such a time, lunch between such and such a time, and dinner between such and such a time. With this one, if the residents don't come at eight o'clock for breakfast, noon for lunch, and five o'clock for dinner, they're out of luck. And they didn't have anything like an open cafeteria. I was very underwhelmed by the dining facility and what they seemed to offer. The tour guide told us that the residents get together and have input into the menu, and they showed us the sample menu. But it just seemed so restrictive. It just seemed like it was inadequate. The studio room seemed so sterile, and the double room -- the room that was a little apartment -- was two rooms. You could have a roommate and have two bedrooms. They said a lot of people make one into a sitting room and one into a bedroom. There's a tiny space that you can put a refrigerator. The bathroom was very nice. It was totally for a potential resident who might use a walker or a wheelchair. It had a nice handheld shower, a bench, and everything. It is what you'd expect to see in an assisted living place. The room was nice but not terribly large. I would also have liked to have seen some other activities, like bingo, crafts, and things like that, but I didn't see anything like that.

My loved one was left in the same dirty clothes for days. Mom has lost too much weight. She has been falling. Management is never available to answer my calls and will not call me back. Our bill is never correct, and is automatically drafted from my account. My Mom’s care cost doubled in one month with no explanation. We had high expectations by what we were told and the price we are paying. At one time this was a nice place but they have gone down hill, and seems to be understaffed on a regular basis. The last time we were allowed in the building the urine odor was so strong my eyes were burning and I felt sick. Mom complains about the odor every time we talk. She has had ants in her room for months and nothing has been done. We have been extremely disappointed and concerned for her wellbeing. We have made arrangements to relocate her due to the poor conditions. We hate to put her through another move but we can’t let her stay in this filthy place. It has been a nightmare!

I'm very satisfied with Brookdale Asheboro. My brother seems to be happy there. They have outings, recreational therapists, they have volunteers that come in to do events, they also go to movies. I haven't tried the food but my brother has been pleased with it. The staff is very professional. They have gardening facilities, a library, screened porches and patios.

My mom moved into Brookdale Asheboro. She needs more help than what she's able to get there. She's not getting as much physical therapy as I would like, which is my only regret so far. They help her out, watch her closely, and are available when she needs them. They seem to be very knowledgeable and experienced. They offer happy hour a couple times a week. My mom's room is more of an apartment with no kitchen in it.

Please don't be fooled by the executive staff at this facility. Their bottom line is profits. Our loved one was there for four days and after many assurances of good care, she was found lying on a floor after a half hour with a broken femur and only one sock on. She was taken to hospital and will now undergo painful rehab before being moved to a better facility. If you are a person of faith, please think long and hard before you place your loved one here. The only explanation we were given about our mother was that staff was short handed at time of incident and was unaware of her (our mother's) whereabouts.
