I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Stay clear of this facility. My sister was there for 2 years and they made her life a living hell. Care is poor, so is food and treatment received was very minimal at best. Please do your loved one a favor and seek out another facility. I lived in Somers for many years and had no idea that this facility was so subpar. Look elsewhere. I wish someone had warned my family.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was brought there a little before Thanksgiving, 2023. While in the Essex unit he was rarely checked on throughout the day. My mother and I had to continuously go there because it was clear they would not help him sit up to drink and eat his food. The one day I didn’t go during the day and did not show up till that night. He was in bed, pale lips, completely dry, could not move anything except his eyes, could not speak. He was rushed to emergency Northern Westchester. They said he was bone dry on the inside And had an And had an invasive infection. Which is not to be confused with him getting staff infection from Paramount as well. Not one person in that unit at Paramount made sure that he drank and kept hydrated. If I had not shown up, God knows what would’ve happened to my father ? Of course, he contracted Covid from Paramount so he could not go anywhere else but back to Paramount. Thankfully, he ended up in a different wing in Nottingham. The staff here were friendlier and more attentive. There were a few who actually cared, and I truly cherish them. One aid would just stand there and laugh and walk away. Not sure if he was being condescending or he did not understand anything we were saying. Often times my father would be left in bed all day and all night, because he refused to be taken out of bed OT and PT would play the blame game with aids about who was supposed to get him out of bed for services. I understand he has a right to refuse to get out of bed, but there wasn’t any even trying the moment he said no many aids would just say OK that’s it and walk away because they are understaffed. The administrators never call you back. They pretend they care but they don’t. The only time I got a callback from administrator was when I left a negative review and several emails and voicemails. On the day that my father was finally leaving this terrible place, and transferring to veterans, they left him in a wheelchair for hours, and no ambulance was there. Once again, had to call and figure out and was told well you could come pick him up. Imagine telling a family member the ambulance isn’t coming so you should pick him up and bring him there. After my mother and I called several times to many different numbers, and had to actually advocate and care for our father. An ambulance suddenly showed up. There are way too many residents not enough, nurses and aids, and administrators put on a great show but really, it’s just to hide what’s really going on Oh, and he no longer need it chopped food, and it was Repeatedly requested that he have regular food. Otherwise he wouldn’t eat the chopped food. Yet they continue to give him chicken salad, and tuna salad Luncheon dinner. And then they wonder why he didn’t want to eat. There was no problem with him swallowing because he could eat food in small bites. Was a combination of poor communication and just not caring.

My mom was a patient here recovering from a fall. The staff was amazing. They were attentive and compassionate. The physical therapy staff took my mom from not being able to walk to being able to resume an independent life. Each private room has a large window allowing for natural light and are nicely appointed. My mother also enjoyed the food. The campus is quiet and lovely.

Paramount at Somers is wonderful. My Dad was in very bad shape when he got here. Down to under 80 lbs, and having many anxiety problems. They got him back on track. He is now 130 lbs and has most of his anxieties gone with the help of the psychiatrist. Got him on the right meds. Nurses are wonderful, but overworked. I would whole heartedly recommend this for senior care.

My mother stayed in The Paramount at Somers. It was good, but according to my mother they were understaffed. They need to get a bigger staff and also pay closer attention to all the patients there. Physical appearance was OK. It was kind of cold in a way because everything was barren inside. I went to visit her, we had to visit her through a window, and I couldn't see her. It was very cold and barren. Because they were understaffed, they were doing the best they could. I was satisfied with the care.

The rooms are sparsely furnished and for the first few days, medical litter was everywhere. After speaking with the Social Worker, the room was cleaned up. Most of my husband's clothes have disappeared into the abyss called LAUNDRY SERVICE, DESPITE THE LARGE SIGN PLACED BY A NURSE STATING THAT HIS LAUNDRY WOULD BE CARED FOR BY THE FAMILY. The nurses are competent, concerned. Aides are kind and caring. But it is obvious that the place is terribly short staffed. Dr. J Marshall, the facility MD neither returns calls nor has she ever visited my husband with the exception of day#1 when she briefly stuck her head in the door to tell us that SHE IS THE DOCTOR IN CHARGE. IF THERE ARE ANY AMENITIES, WE HAVE NOT FOUND THEM. Avoid this place like the plague. After my husband leaves, I will make a detailed report to Medicare and to The State of New York.

THEY WANT YOUR MONEY ABOVE ALL ELSE.THEY DONT CARE ABOUT PATIENTS WELFARE. This facility is grossly understaffed. MY relative was left for hours unattended while beepers went off. No doctor there all weekend. Social staff unwilling to help in any meaningful way. Food is horrible. That said, the new rooms were nice, and the PT is good. If you’re looking for a short term stay for physical rehab, probably ok. Not at all suited for very ill patients.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The staff at Paramount is wonderful. I especially want to thank Stephanie the social worker for being so kind and patient not only with Ellen Dupaw the resident but also with my 90 year old parents who visit her everyday. The women who care for her on a daily basis as far as bringing her lunch and caring for her daily needs joke with her and make her laugh which is the best part of her day. Lena at the nurses desk helped me with a health proxy form for a half our. She was not familiar with the form and it is not her job but she still took the time to help me even with patients in front of her desk and her buzzer going off continuously. Thank you all. The Paramount is extremely understaffed. Pulled my mother out after 2 days. Someone stuck her on a commode with a diaper on then left her sitting for over an hour. The attendant had 15 patients to take care of. Physically impossible. Told there was a doctor on staff. When my mother had trouble breathing on a Saturday there was no doctor. No doctor on the weekends. When the nurse called him she was told it can wait till Monday. We had to call an ambulance and take her to the emergency room. Please do not place your loved ones in this facility!!!

MY MOM IS IN THE DEMENTIA UNIT, THE STAFF IS CARING, NICE BUT A BIT OVERWHELMED. THEY HAVE A LOT OF RESIDENTS AND YES I FEEL NOT ENOUGH STAFF BUT YOU CAN SAY THAT ABOUT ALL NURSING HOMES. STILL THEY LOVE MOM AND SHE IS HAPPY AND TAKEN CARE OFF. WHAT CONCERNS ME AT TIMES IS THE CLEANLINESS OF THE PLACE BECAUSE SOMETIMES WHEN I VISIT THE SMELL IS OVERWHELMING. AS FOR THE FOOD, I KNOW THEY RECENTLY CHANGED VENDOR AND I CERTAINLY HAVE BEEN DISAPOINTED ABOUT THE FOOD QUALITY BUT I WILL GIVE THEM TIME TO SORT THINGS OUT. OVERALL, THEY PLACE IS GOOD AND I AM HAPPY AND MOR IMPORTANTLY MOM IS HAPPY BEIN THERE.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The name has been changed to Paramount of Somers. This is a horrible place it has been a total nightmare. I am left at a table all day I am left with feces and urine in my diaper. I ask for help and I am denied. They should be a shamed of themselves. I am not the only one they treat like this. I have heard family members constantly complaining how their Mother, father, Siblings are treated. I fell there and laid on the floor they did not come right away. The interaction with the staff is horrible because they are so understaffed. The Staff is extremely over whelmed and over worked. You go to activities and the people they hire to entertain don’t show. Your told to talk to each other. All they care about here is washing and waxing floors. As the old saying goes looks are deceiving they apply to this place. If you love your love one do not put them here.

My Mom was there for rehab for 3 weeks. The place was just ok. I felt the rehab was adequate , but the call bells took way to long to be answered. Some of the nurses were good but when I asked certain questions about my Moms medications or why they moved her room, nobody seem to know the answers...the place is way to big and not enough staff. Overall, I would not recommend Somers Manor.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother is on the dementia unit. The staff is very caring and they take excellent care of her. It is a challenging job, but the staff and patients become like family. Every area of the unit is very clean and the rooms are spacious. The food looks okay. My one criticism is that in the years that she has been there, I have seen a decline in the level of recreational therapy, mainly due to the skill set and interest of the recreational staff. There have been some excellent recreational providers, and some are barely interested. The residents really enjoy it when therapy dogs visit the unit.

This is a first-rate facility as far as care goes. The staff is wonderful and caring. It's kept very clean. The food is pretty good. It's not a fancy place if you are looking for that and the social programs for residents are adequate, but there could probably be a more varied choice. I have a relative there and I really have no complaints. They are always looking out for his welfare and take very good care of him.

I visited this facility

Somers Manor was OK, but not that nice in terms of appearance. It seemed to be not as opulent in its decorations and the way it was maintained. The dining area looked fair. The staff was just all right, though.
