I visited this facility

We went to Somerset Gardens by Chelsea. They were very caring. They asked a lot of questions about my mother-in-law. They seemed very concerned. The facility was very clean. The apartments were well kept. If we had to choose one place, that would have been where she would have gone. Also the price structure was better than the others. They have a whole activity schedule for the residents that they try to follow on a daily basis. They all do, but this one (for some reason), stood out to us more than the others. It's a little bit bigger. The person was very interesting and had a better presentation of the facilities than the other two that we visited. They had a library and a game room.

We went to tour Somerset Gardens Senior Living yesterday. I don't think the price is going to work out for us. They're just too expensive so we're looking into other avenues. We're trying to find places that will take Medicaid. The salesperson was pleasant and she was wonderful. She gave us a lot of information and she pretty much answered any questions we had. The memory care facility was beautiful. Some of the stuff was a little bit dated though. The painting needed a little bit of refreshing but as far as the decor and the hominess, it was a nice place. The only thing was that the pricing was just exorbitant. It's like double what we were looking at with the other facilities. As far as cleanliness, activities, and friendliness, I'd give it 5 stars. It's just not affordable for our family.

Somerset Gardens by Chelsea was very nice. I went there because they had a special price, but 6 months later, it went back up to too much of a price I couldn't afford. They have very nice rooms, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom, and they're very clean. It has a microwave, a small fridge and it's very comfortable. The staff is also very nice. They have a very nice dining room, a movie theater, and a big bingo room. It's very well taken of.

We toured Somerset Gardens Senior Living for my mother, and I think it was very cozy. The rooms were too far from the dining area for my mom though. It was too far for her to walk. I just think that the property is too small, and it's right by the expressway. The staff is very pleasant, and very nice. The place was very homey and clean. They have a library, but I don't remember if they have an exercise room. They have a beauty salon.

I really like Somerset Gardens. It's small enough where you're not going to get lost, which I felt was important for my mom because I feel like if it was too large, it would be too overwhelming for her. The whole center downstairs was beautiful, they have a lot of games and activities, and I think she would have adjusted really nicely. Because of COVID, the tour was short, and they told everybody to stay in their room so I could go there, but I really like it. They have a garden where you can sit out there, and it was just pretty the way they set it up. Also it wasn't overly expensive, and I feel like it is in my mom's budget, so I think she'll do well there. I just have to get her there after her second shot. The staff was very nice, her name is LeAnne, and she was excellent. The facility may need some work because it was a former hotel, but for what my mom is going there for, like to socialize, I think it's very nice. The rooms and the setup are very nice, too.

My brother and I weren't overwhelmed with Somerset Gardens Senior Living. We didn't look at any of the apartments nor try any of the food. It was older looking. The director seemed very pleasant. The dining area was a little small. They had a little room for physical therapy off the wellness room. It's right off the expressway, so you're going to get a lot of truck noise and truck traffic. If your apartment is facing the service road, it's very noisy. They also offer memory care.

We liked Somerset Gardens. We were looking at a private, small studio and the two-bedroom companion suite. The pricing was fine and good. They serve three meals and if you want snacks and coffee, you can get that in between. The place was clean.

Somerset Gardens has fairly decent pricing in comparison to other places and it seems like the care is top-notch. The people we met seemed to be very caring, understand the job, and do it well. The rooms are spacious and my wife's cousin will have a room with a door that goes outside to a private patio. It was a nice appointment setup. They did a good job with this place and I'd recommend them.

We chose Somerset because of the cost and the location. I like their rooms a lot. I've been there several times already. My grandmother is not loving the food, but she's not eating it either. They have exercise, games, visiting entertainment, and singing. If you want to do it, you do it, and if you don't, you don't have to. Everybody seemed fine.

We are very pleased with Somerget Gardens. It has been a struggle because my mother-in-law has clinical issues, but they do a pretty good job responding to issue. She is there for almost two months now. She has an apartment. It is fine. It is one-room efficiency. It has a microwave, a small fridge, a bathroom, and a shower. We furnish it with new furniture. She is comfortable there. She has her privacy, so that’s good. The only real concern that I have is the food. It is really important for her to eat three solid meals a day for her medications for Parkinson’s. She barely eats the breakfast because it is terrible. Most of the other meals are pretty good, but she likes more variety. They also need to develop a much more effective recreation program. Right now, what they have is an activity program and bus trips. The bus is great because it brings them out into the community, but within the facility, it is really an activities program. They really need to develop more person’s center approach to care. They really should give the residents more of a voice on what type of activities and programs they create. They do set up a peer and put her at a table during meals with a peer, but she specifically asked to be introduced to Jewish residents, and her peers are Catholics.

I like the fact that everything on Somerset was on the grounds, and that they had a restaurant instead of cafeteria. There’s a beauty parlor on the ground, and everybody that we spoke seemed to like it there. The staff itself seemed very cheerful, and the place is spotless.

It is a lovely facility. Everything my parents would want in a place to live. We put a deposit down on the large one bedroom, started the process to bring them down to be evaluated when Somerset STOPPED communicating with us. My sister called to arrange for the intake meeting only to be told that they weren't going to accept my parents. They NEVER met my parents and pulled the "rug" out from us. Every place we go to say that they would have to meet with them. Yes my mom has a mental issue but they have a section for that. We are beyond upset with how they handled it. They returned my check but no note or anything. So unprofessional.

I saw the Somerset. It was very nice, and it was the cheapest of the places we went to. The rooms were far from the dining area, and it would jack up the price to get a wheelchair to go to the dining area because she would have to be in the highest level of care. The rooms are very nice. I didn’t think the parking accommodations are great for visitors. The rooms had some balconies, but there was only one bathroom in a two-bedroom suite. Also, they didn’t want my mother, and mother in-law eating together.

Somerset Gardens is a nice place. We do a lot of things, ride the bus, and go shopping, eat out. We go out to lunches. I am in a small studio, but I’m happy where I am. I’ve got a microwave, a refrigerator. I’ve got my own bathroom, which is good. I like the dining area and the food. It’s reasonable, very excellent.

Somerset Gardens was very nice and clean. It’s a smaller scale, which is very good, and I thought more individual attention. Everybody seemed very nice, and even the people that lived there seemed to enjoy it too.

I liked that the studio was large and they had outdoor balconies, but as soon as I went in Somerset Gardens, I knew that it wasn't the right place for me. It's a converted hotel, so I wasn't interested in it. I only asked to see the studio, and it was nice.

Somerset Gardens is very nice. Everybody is very helpful, very friendly, and very caring. The facility is very nice and clean. So far, so good. The apartment is very nice and spacious. It has a little kitchenette area and a nice bathroom. I had one meal, and I think the food is satisfactory. It's what you would expect. Some days are better than others, but they have a nice menu selection. They also have activities like bingo, singing, exercises, movies, and cards. They could improve on the food.

The staff were very patient and answered all my questions. They had standard activities like trips to the mall and bingo. The thing that I did not love about Somerset Gardens is that it is directly off the expressway in Long Island. It's a little bit of an awkward spot -- not a pretty area. The building itself is nice, and the rooms are nice, but the location is a little bit funny and not very homey.

Somerset Gardens was very, very nice. It was a hotel that was converted into a senior living. That’s why it actually felt like a hotel. The people there loved the place. There were a lot of things for them to do: they had music going, they have dancing, and playing cards in one area. They took them to the mall. They took them to parks. They have different things every week. They had food being served at any time during the day. That was very nice because you didn’t have to exactly eat within a 2-hour frame throughout the whole day.

When we walked in at Somerset, it looked nice and less expensive. They’re doing well and things looked okay. The rooms are nice and spacious; both of them are in a private room. It is not crowded and there is room to get around. The dining room is nice too.

Besides assisted living, my father-in-law also needs dementia care, and Somerset Gardens Senior Living has both, which all these other places don't have. Not only that, but he gets really good care. They look after him, check him out every two hours, and take him out of his room in the morning. They feed, dress, and shave him. Then, they give him his pills, and they really take care of him. He seems to be very happy there. He has a nice room that has got a bed in it, a dresser, a couple of chairs, and his own bathroom, and he is all by himself.

The price with Somerset is very good. My mom was in a waiting list there but by the time that it was available, my mother didn't want to move there anymore. The place is clean and the people are nice. The environment there was good.

Somerset Gardens is in a good location. It is a good facility. The caring is amazing. My dad is in the dementia unit. He is clean, he is fed, he's medicated well, and he's comfortable as possible. We're definitely getting the money for it. The food is good. I met with the chef, he was accommodating. Dad's room is perfect. His bed is clean, everything is maintained and spotless.

When I first realized Mom needed more care than I could provide, I started searching for a place where she could be happy, and a place she could call home. From the first time I walked into The Chelsea, I knew this was the right place for Mom. It was very warm, clean and friendly. In addition to the many activities for my mother and the other residents, the Chelsea provides many special events that include families from car shows and casino nights to holiday parties and egg hunts. Everyone is made to feel very welcomed. The staff is wonderful. No request is too much! My mom says it was more than she expected, she meet new friends, and she loves there good food. I feel very comfortable that my mom is there and being well taken care of, they help her bath, make sure she takes, her meds, are there for her on call! And she still has her privacy! It is like a big family!

Since January 2011 things have changed at Somerset and I would no longer recommend it, in fact things got so bad that my family and I looked for and found a new place for my husband. There was a waiting list and it wasn't until the end of February 2012 that we were able to move my husband. Meanwhile we hired an Aide 24/7 to give him the care he deserved. I observed that by December 2011 there were 12 unoccupied beds at Somerset. We are very pleased with the new facility.
