I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My cousin has been at Braemar Living at Wallkill for 6 months now. She loves it there. It's a very good place. Her room is incredibly clean and modern. The staff is very friendly. They have movies and a pool. The outdoor spaces are super nice.

We've decided to keep my mom at Braemar at Wallkill. Her room is nice. She has her own little kitchenette area, a refrigerator, and her own bathroom. Their activities are great, before Covid, of course. Covid screwed up everything. They would do arts and crafts, and movies and they would take them out shopping. Once a month, they would do birthday celebrations. They would bring bands also. If you're living there and you're capable, you can park your car, you can do whatever you want, come and go. It's an independent and assisted living home. They provide 3 meals a day, and I believe they were pretty decent meals. They had a library area where you could sit down and watch TV. They also have an area where they keep snacks, juice, and drinks. So if somebody wants to come downstairs, have a snack, have a drink, coffee, tea, cookies, fruit, or something, they have that. They also have a wellness department, which they do give out medicine, which is great. It's another reason we have her there. They give out medicines, so they have her on a schedule. She knows what time, so she's able to go down to get her medicine. If it's twice or three times a day and they meet up at a certain place. If she forgets to get her medicine, someone will come up and get her and remind her. They weigh them once a month, also. There was a lady there that cut hair and toenails. You could sign them in and sign them out. We used to sign her out for a day or two. If she wants to come to stay with me or we want to go away, that also could be arranged. They do have memory care, which is on another floor. They do accept Medicare. I believe also they do accept Medicaid. Mom has her own private room. When you have Medicare, you share a room. So memory care, it's a little bit more money. Right now, I'll give them a four because they're short-staffed a little bit. They also do their laundry. They come and clean their rooms, change their beddings and all that. They could do it or you choose to do it yourself. My mom was fine with all the staff. Everyone loves and adores her. They know she's the life of the party. The amenities are beautiful. The place is gorgeous. They have a nice lawn. They can sit outside. It's very nice.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

When my dad was there, the staff, Daniel and others were nice to me, so I assumed to my father. My dad left and during the move out the only nice person was Allie. Daniel and others did a 180 and where rude and nasty to my daughter and other members of my family during his day of moving. Since I pay his bills I didn't get that from her but did from others. I didn't live there but my dad did say they could be rude and then other times very helpful. We cannot forward his mail because its a business so I asked they mail me the little he gets and Allie has helped greatly. Annette was rude to this fact and though I explained the post office wouldn't do it she was still indignant. Look, there was no reason for the 180 to my dad , me or family. Would I recommend them, NO! You don't be nice when the money is coming in as people are still people and deserve to be treated with respect at all times.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I've been staying in Braemar. This is $5,000 a month, which I can support short term, but I can't stay here for ten years. It's been very good, everybody is very nice, they're very friendly, and the facility is nice, so I don't have any complaints. I'm gluten-free, so every once in a while I struggle to find a meal. They don't always have gluten-free, but when they do, they do pretty good. It's a new building, it's only three or four years old, so everything is pretty nice. The bathroom is handicap-friendly. I have a colostomy bag now, that's one of my disabilities. The building is in a U-shape, so everything is down on the ground floor, on the base level. You go to wellness in the morning, get your blood checked for your diabetes, get your pills, and go to the dining room. It's just a nice layout. It's good for me. They have a library, a pool table, and a pub that's not open because of the COVID. The activities are also canceled because of the COVID, so I haven't taken part in anything.

This facility is very much like a hotel. It is very pleasant to look at during a tour. The staff is very limited and not very friendly or helpful. There is no security guard on premises. I have witnessed people with memory loss wander out the front door without the staff noticing. The food is worse than hospital food. There is not much to do other than wake up, eat, then sleep. This place is for people that are very able bodied and capable to take care of themselves.

Braemar is relatively new. I think that's the one that probably we're going to wind up having my relative go to. It's still pricey on a monthly basis, but it's comparable. You don't have to put a downpayment down, so that's one of my relative's considerations. To me, you get what you pay for, so it's a nice facility. They have a nice outside solarium. I think my relative would be happy there. Amenities and activities, I think, are comparable. I did drive by there and there were people sitting out on the terraces talking to family members that were outside. There were quite a few residents sitting outside the outdoor terrace where everybody could sit down. It seemed social. The staff members were very nice also.

My mother moved into Braemar Living at Wallkill. I found their care to be pretty good, but I think she was initially assessed incorrectly, she went in with level 2 care, and thus far she was placed in memory care. I felt initially she was misplaced in the facility. The staff was very caring, her room was very nice, clean, modern and I feel the people are well taken care of. The food and dining is very good. They have live music, bingo, religious services, and they have trips out if you're eligible to do that. They have happy hour every day, and they have a lot of activity for people who are active.

What a beautiful facility. I heard about the issues with care however, I also know from talking to management the are aware and fixing the issues and improving the facility. They gave me a direct line to the Corporate office Director of Sales / Admissions and stated if I ever had questions or concerns to call her directly. She has been most helpful with questions. This is going to be the right choice for my mom.

Braemar Living at Wallkill was clean, organized and pleasant. The intake person who toured me was pleasant and knowledgeable. It's an institution, but well designed, and people are free to come and go from their rooms. The dining area was nice, but they had assigned tables, which I don't care about. They don't need to be pigeonholed because there was no one in need of constant care or high level nursing care. Meals and laundry were provided and the rooms were cleaned. I saw the activity room, reading room, physical therapy, and OT. They had nice grounds and residents were free to sit outside, and they've got private rooms.

Mom was placed at the Braemar at her will. She was impressed with the beauty and surroundings as well as the room size. She thought that she would get the help she needed. This was Moms choice and out of pocket. Some of the nurses were extremely attentive but it didn't compare to those that didn't respond to her calls from her room when she needed an ambulance, or didn't provide her medication because they ran out and didn't inform anyone. (We made it clear from the beginning that we were a part of Mom's life and her decisions). Mom ended up in Cardiac Arrest from not having the medications she needed for 3 days. Unfortunately, nothing good came after that. She endured months in the hospital and in rehab. We were on the phone with Braemar personnel almost everyday. Tried contacting them to work out payment of Mom's last month (the month they put her in the hospital) and never received calls back. They have mom in collections (unfortunately Mom passed from her complications). We did find out that they fired the nurse that had forgotten her medication. Apparently it wasn't the first time. I don't believe that all the blame should be on the personnel. Our STATE needs to be involved and oversee the homes we place our loved ones in. I pray every day for your loved ones whom may not have a voice to speak for them.

The facility is notoriously understaffed. Residents don't receive the care that they pay for due to the lack of staff. Activity programs are usually canceled atleast 3 times a week. Laundry quite often is not picked up or returned. Linens are regularly not changed.

Braemar at Wallkill was very clean and very new. It has some interesting room options which makes it a little different from other places. They have these little suites that you can share with a roommate while still having the privacy of your own room. You just share the common areas like the bathroom, kitchenette, and another little area for coffee. It's brand-new, nice, and clean. It's amazing that they have a movie theater there and other things. It's like a small city within a city. The community is a bit big and can be a little tricky based on how well your parents can navigate. All the halls look very much alike, so it might be a little hard for my mom to get around and figure out the elevator and floors.

Braemar Living at Wallkill was clean, pleasant, and very professional. The people who took me on the tour were very knowledgeable of all of the services that it provided. They were reassuring and answered questions intelligently. It was a place that I might be comfortable placing my mother in. I saw a shared apartment, but I was a little bit disappointed.

Kathy came to Braemar in January 2016 from a home situation in which she was unable to care for herself. She was not taking her medications, was not eating properly, and had fallen and broken her hip. Since her time at Braemar, she has had regular, balanced meals, daily medical attention, and the opportunity to meet people and to socialize. In fact, although a diabetic for at least 20 years, she has lost a healthy amount of weight and is no longer on a diabetic program. This is all thanks to the staff and the programs at Braemar. I would also like to thank the administration for their help in not only admitting Kathy but also in the steps needed to get her on a Medicaid program. She is happy, and so am I for her. Caring for a needy relative can be difficult. The staff at Braemar have made that task so much easier.

Braemar at Wallkill is a beautiful place, and they actually had a separate dining room if you had a meal with friends which I thought was really nice. It would look like your dining room in a home. They had a bar for Happy Hour, it was fun, and they actually take 80 Medicaid beds, so that's why I went. The staff is very professional and helpful. They had a beautiful library and arts and crafts.

We weren’t too thrilled with Braemar because it was assisted living. All of the floors were the same color, and it was very confusing. It was a new facility and was clean but felt different. The people seemed very nice.

Braemar Living at Wallkill was big and had all the levels of care. It's on several floors, and they had elevators, which reminded me more of a hotel type institution. It's new, clean, and looked very nice but also looked a little clinical to me. The staff seemed to be very nice and had a lot of things for the patients to do during the day. The section where my mother was going to be in was the Alzheimer's section upstairs on the third floor behind a locked door. It just seemed a little too sterile to me. For people to get around there if you're not in the Alzheimer's section or special care section, they have to use elevators, which would be a challenge for some folks. The price was twice as much as what we're paying now and it really wasn't that much closer to where I live. I talked to some of the patients that were eating who liked the food and seemed to be satisfied. One patient told me it was better when they first came.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Braemar is a brand new facility, which is great. My mother-in-law is one of the first residents, and she was able to pick a nice room. She is getting a little bit of extra attention, which recently helps tremendously in the transition from leaving in her home to living in an assisted living. It is more likely independent living because they have different theories assistance. They also have a memory care unit which is wonderful because she does have dementia. I couldn’t be more pleased with the care that she is getting there. She had been health bound for 10 years, and after my father-in-law passed away, I have someone come today with her. She has people that she interacts with, and it really has been a positive experience. Communication is a bit difficult, I am in North Carolina, and they are in New York, but there isn’t anything that is life threatening.
