Lots of loving staff members at the Bristal but I strongly encourage anyone with a loved one here or in any type of facility to stay on top of that persons care. Make random visits. Placing a camera in the room can help insure they get care they are paying for. Don't trust in the system. Elderly people need family or friends to advocate for proper care. My mother spent two years at the Bristal and there are many pros and just as many cons to the care she received at the Bristal. When your loved one is unable to tell you how their care is going you have to be diligent to confirm medications, therapies, wound care etc are actually getting done.

My Mom started living there September 30th. I just got a letter saying that they are raising her care $40 a day starting January 1st. That’s $1200 dollars more a month. Omg I can’t believe it!! The last place she was in raised her rent once a year. She’s doing great and I love it there! But I can’t believe how they can suck every dime out of all the money my parents worked so hard for all there lives!! And when it’s gone they will just ship her of to a place that takes Medicaid 🤦♀️

My mother is currently staying in The Bristal at Holtsville and we love it. It's just that they have raised their prices so much, so it's unaffordable to us now. This place has everything. They have a terrific movie theater, they have great crafts, and they have nice social events. All in all, I'm not happy that we have to move her out of there, the family is very upset. It's just a shame that with today's prices, we'd have to do it but we have no choice. She's been there for three years now but they're raising their rates and not being very compassionate to the residents and their finances. The staff and employees are very nice and caring, and it's not their fault that this is a business and they're not in control of the price rise. I never tasted the food there but my mother says the food is delicious, the people I've talked to also say it's delicious and it always smells good whenever I go there. I see residents having plenty of activities, they have lots of arts and crafts, and trips, and they have bingo every day. They keep them occupied. When it comes to amenities, they have everything including a salon, and a gym, they have a bistro where the residents go to meet and talk and hang out, and they have a wonderful movie theater. They also have bus trips and the bus is always there, it's available for them. The prices for the place itself are just unaffordable, but they offer very good care. She's at the top level of care and I'd have to say that she gets excellent care.

My mother-in-law is at The Bristal at Holtsville. There are a lot of activities going on all the time and they've got a beautiful bistro. The rooms are on the larger side. with nice bathrooms and easily accessible showers. Her room is very nice, she's got a little area with a microwave, and then it's got a separate area with a nice large bathroom. The staff is very good but the food's not good, they don't have a good chef. When she moved in they had somebody pretty good, and then it's gone downhill and it's really poor now. She doesn't do that much, but they have everything from crafts and they've got a nice theater. It's a high-end place and they do a lot of entertaining for them, they have people come in to perform, and they've got a pool that no one uses. It's too expensive, at about $8,000 plus.

The overall atmosphere of the facility is bright and cheery. The rooms are more than adequate. There are numerous separate activity rooms and social areas. My mother who is extremely picky is more than happy with the food! The staff is outstanding--their level of care and concern for the residents is apparent and sincere. Sara is a doll! she has gone out of her way to make us feel happy with our decision to help our Mom make this move
