Sutton Gardens Senior Living was very small. It's all on one level. The grounds outside were great and they have a fenced-in area where people can come and go as they please. It's a locked fence so they can't wander off. They have a double door and you have to be buzzed in. So, they're very careful who they let in there. They only had two common rooms. One was the dining room, which was all gray with some tables and chairs, and they also used it for activities between mealtimes. They have arts and crafts and a whole bunch of things that they do, but when I got there, I didn't see much of anything going on except people just sitting and an aide going around and helping them. Then the TV room didn't have sofas or anything. They only have these padded chairs all around the room. One guy was walking around in his bare feet and one woman was sleeping in the TV room across four padded chairs. It just didn't seem like there were a lot of comfortable places other than a chair to sit on. There were no toilets in the room. They'd have to leave and go out into the hall for that. It was a bathroom with a few stalls. I looked at their sample menus and for me, it was very progressive in terms of high-level health. They were good to improve their condition. It's in a nice residential neighborhood with nice grounds and they can come and go at least into the backyard. Overall, it seemed OK.

I visited Sutton Gardens twice, once by myself and once with my mom. The tour experience was very good. The administrator, I think her name is Jessica, was very helpful. She gave a thorough tour and gave information regarding what it would cost to house my dad if we would choose the community. The facility was very nice and very well maintained. They had enough staff. It wasn't overcrowded with residents. It was a small community, which was very encouraging because then I know that they won't be overwhelmed, and they can tend to the patients in their care. The dining area was well set up. They had small round tables, which were intimate and had four or five residents per table. And the staff was very helpful. I didn't try the food, but it looked good. The residents were eating during the tour. They do arts and crafts with the residents, which is good. They also have bingo. They have a TV room and an outdoor space, which was very good. It wasn't a large community, but it was good enough for a senior citizen or someone dealing with Alzheimer's. Like my dad, he's unsteady on his feet, but I don't worry about him being a fall risk there because the staff seemed very helpful when it came to the patients and their care.

My friend moved into Sutton Gardens Senior Living. It's a very nice and very caring place. The people are very nice. She has dementia, but her memory is still there in some respects. She's happy there. She's gaining weight. She had a lot of weight loss in rehab. It's the best place, and the best care for her. It's a large place, but they have a beautiful property outside. During the summer and spring they mentioned that the residents go outside and sit on the big porch. They also said that we could take them out for walks. It's in a quiet part of Flushing, so it's not where the busy streets are. Inside they have a dining area where residents can meet with their family members for a short visit. The rest of the facility is for the residents. They don't have a large area for family, but they make appointments where it's possible to accommodate people who want to visit. I haven't sampled the meals, but they will accommodate the residents to what they like. The person that I'm in charge of lost a lot of weight in rehab, so our priority was for her to gain weight; however, she's a very picky eater. They are aware of what she likes, and they are trying to make the meals according to what she will eat. They will give me an update when I go once a week on how she has been progressing throughout the week. It's like a ranch house. It's one floor and it's very wide. It was decorated for Easter. They had little pictures and little decorations. It's like a happy place when you walk in, and then you have the residents sitting in the dining area. That's like the big area where people meet the family members, and then in the back is a big TV room. They're giving priority to the residents, so they're comfortable, and they're free to walk around, but there's also assistance watching everyone. If anybody needs any help at that moment to get up or to be guided with the wheelchair or the walker, they're just very attentive to all the residents. They all have different issues, but they're aware of everyone's issues. You could see that they're careful to make sure that everybody is safe. It's a little bit crowded when you first walk in with the residents and then the visitors. If they had one more room it would be ideal, but it's very clean and well kept. I felt like the money was overpriced for other facilities, and she's getting better care here than she would at any other place, I believe. I was just very happy that she's there and I feel that it's not complicated when you're there. The administrator is always eager to talk. If I have any questions during the week, she'll get back to me. When I go to visit, the nurse that's in charge is always eager to give me an update on how she was the whole week. They're aware of their residents. She's walking on her own. She's still supervised, but she's active. I would highly recommend it to anybody who has someone that needs care, and it's a very reasonable price.

My grandmother lives at Sutton Gardens. I only have the greatest things to say about the quality of care she receives. Smaller caring community with great care and food. The staff is really caring and residents are well cared for. Great pricing and fully renovated. Check it out, well worth a visit.

My relative lives here and I can tell you that we are very happy with the care she receives. The administrator is always available when we have questions and she gives us updates with pictures all the time. I don’t know what we would have done without them - they are a godsend

Sutton Gardens is smaller than the other senior places I visited. When you first go in you're in the dining area, which they also use for bingo. Bingo was going on for a long time while I was there, although not too many people were playing it, and some were just watching TV. Nobody looked happy or animated. They were all just sitting there. They served dinner, and the food looked OK. The place is kept clean and there wasnt any smell. I can suggest that maybe they can add a little more color to the décor to make it less institutional, and some diversity to the activities.

I liked the environment at Sutton Gardens, but the place itself had more of a nursing home atmosphere than assisted living. However, the engagement was very nice. Pretty much everybody was out of their rooms and in the common areas coloring, singing, or doing some kind of activity, which was nice.

The one that we went to was horrible; it was Sutton Gardens. The lady who toured us was nice, but all the people were sitting there and looked like they were half dead. Nobody was awake; they were all sitting there sleeping with their heads down. The rooms were small. There was no way we’re going to consider that. The staff was fine; they talked to us, and they were friendly and nice, but it just wasn’t the place that we wanted. It depressed me.

I did not like Sutton Gardens at all. It was not very clean and had a very bad odor to it, but it could've been just the day I went. I didn't even finish my visit there. It was a small environment. The residents there need a higher level of care and seemed to all be lost or in their own world. We passed by the dining area, and I didn't like it. It didn't look very appealing.

Sutton Gardens Assisted Living is a good community for retired senior citizens. I didn't spend that much time there, but the rooms and apartments looked fine to me. They had wooden chairs and round tables in the dining room that seemed adequate. They have a calendar of activities, too. The place was very secure. The community itself as a whole is enough for a senior.
