My mother is in Creekstone, which is run by the Rochester Presbyterian Home. This particular house not only has memory care, but also enhanced assisted living. She uses a wheelchair because she broke both her hips and never got back on her own feet. She also has bowel incontinence because she has Crohn's disease, so they were better able to handle her needs as well as the memory care, and I liked the concept. These homes are large ranch homes with one large common area for eating. There's a beautiful living room with recliner chairs, television, and fireplace. All of the rooms open directly onto the center living area, so there are no long hallways for her to get confused or to try to navigate around in her wheelchair. The staff is very consistent. She's getting to know people and socialize a little more. The staff is consistent from day-to-day and week-to-week. The cost is also a little bit less than the other place she was at. I'm very pleased so far. Families are encouraged to stay for meals and it was very good compared to other places she's been. The staff really gets to know the residents very well. They tailor their interactions with them according to their individual needs.

My mother has already moved into Rochester Presbyterian Home. It's a fantastic place. She is very happy. The best part about it is that they have what's called spend-down program. When your loved one starts to run out of money in a few years, and once they start spending all their money, they're going to charge less money. That was a really good benefit. My mother could probably stay there for the rest of her life. That's a fantastic thing. Plus this home is brand new. They have just built it. My mother is there with new people. The people there are just very friendly, not only the workers, but also the people that live there. They are very active and very alert. They're actually very good with my mother, who has dementia. They cook every meal onsite, and the food looks very good. Residents have their own room. They can come and go as they please out of their rooms and visit with friends. All the women and men that live there can come around and visit each other. It is a nice open atmosphere.

It Can Be Different!
At Creekstone, there are no long corridors, imposing medical equipment or medication carts. Instead, you walk into a ranch-style family home with an accessible kitchen, large living/dining area and 14 bedrooms! The front porch and secure courtyard allow Elders the freedom to enjoy the outdoors.
Shahbazim are the key staff members of each residence. The Shahbazim assist Elders with their personal care and offer opportunities for Elders to connect and build relationships. They also make the meals and maintain the home.
Residence Guides include the administrator and two nurse/care-managers provide clinical support to the family of Elders in each of the homes.
Our experience has shown us that this model is particularly comforting for persons living with dementia. The small, home setting is familiar and reassuring. More importantly, the Eden Alternative philosophy embraced by all who work in the homes, assures that the Elders are honored, respected and loved as family.

Founded In 1991 by Dr. Bill Thomas, the Eden Alternative has the potential of remaking the experience of aging and disability across America and around the world. Proponents of Eden are dedicated to bringing meaning and fulfillment to the lives of Elders through enlivening environments and eliminating the plagues of Loneliness, Helplessness, and Boredom.

Enhanced Memory Care
Memory loss is most often progressive and an Elder’s abilities may increasingly be compromised. At Creekstone, it is our hope to care for each Elder through the end of life. Our Enhanced Care Residence will accommodate the needs of persons living with advanced dementia with additional staff support. We also are able to partner with a home care agency to provide hospice care when the need arises.
