My mom is at Gurwin Jewish - Fay J. Lindner Residences. She's getting decent care. I felt that the place looked a little tired. The management's style is maybe a little weak, but nothing to the detriment of the residents that are there. The facility is nice and kept clean. They serve three meals a day, and there are two seatings for each, which I feel is a little clunky for the people who have to go early in the morning. The first seating is a little tough, and the residents have to get used to that.

I gave one star because the rating system would not accept zero stars. The facility is FILTHY, the staff doesn’t seem to care, as evidenced by the lack of basic housekeeping (we were shown a vacant apartment that had garbage strewn on the floor, including used Q-tips. Many staff members are unvaccinated. The place had an institutional, warehouse vibe. Residents were supposedly required to be masked when they were not eating or engaged in activities yet that rule was not being enforced. There are too many residents, and the place is too big to get the personalized attention that a loved one deserves. Oh, and it smelled too!

This facility has been very slow to adapt to the COVID 19 regulations. They keep All residents in lockdown Except for 2 hours a day for two or three days a week. Family’s cannot visit through the windows unless they make an appt and they only allow one family a day at 4:00. I have only been able to get an appt less than once per week. There has been no entertainment, music, exercise classes provided live even though their is a huge courtyard where these things could occur without anybody even coming outside. They once provided live music for an event to promote their future independent living facility while the few residents allowed outside sat in silence. They do however allow residents to freely walk their hallways which is far more dangerous than walking around the grounds. They have been serving residents food in their rooms (understandably) but the amount and quality of the food has gone way down ( and it was pretty bad to begin with). It has been months now and my father is steadily losing his precious independent skills. His memory and motor skills are in decline. Simple rules could have been implemented to allow more time outside and some sort of activities. They also want to increase an already exorbitant rent. For what? They certainly must have cut down on staffing. The staff are wonderful but the director is rude. Very very disappointed in this place.

I visited Gurwin Jewish for my sister. My mother lived at Gurwin Assisted Living until she died, and my husband is in Gurwin Rehab, so Gurwin has been in and remains in my family. I was in love with this place when my mother was there. I like the community, but it brought back memories that were very positive but also painful. My concern with Gurwin was specific to my sister; I felt that it was very crowded, larger than the other community we visited, and had a lot of movement with people congregating in the lobby or going and back forth with walkers. I didn’t think that it was going to be a good environment for her because she is having difficulty with her mobility and would need places to sit down along her way to her room or the dining room. It was so crowded that I was concerned that there wouldn’t be enough sitting room to accommodate her. Gurwin is a place where I would have liked to live myself, but I found another community for my sister with a much more homey environment as opposed to Gurwin's busy hotel-like environment. However, I would give it a 5 because it meets the different needs of different people, so I thought it was an exceptional place.

My grandma was a resident there from 2010 until she passed away in 2013... Gurwin isn't all its shaped up to be.. My grandma died because of the lack of care and help from this place.. She had trouble swallowing solid foods so they pureed everything into what looked like vomit. They gave her medicine to her at different times everyday.. Nothing was consistent.. When she moved into the unit where dementia/alzheimers patiences were we thought she would have gotten more of one on one treatment.. My family and I were there EVERYDAY! We made sure she ate, had clean clothes, was showered and that she was comfortable.. One of the head ladies (i forgot her name) kept telling my family and I that my grandma would be dead in 5-6 weeks due to her not eating (which they never really helped make sure she was getting all the nutrients she needed). The days leading up to my grandmas death were something i will never forget.... I had called on a Monday morning to say hi to my grandma and the nurses on duty said she hadn't gotten up yet.. They were trying to wake her up but she wouldn't wake up.. They told me she was tired and sleeping... I hung up and didn't think about anything... A few hours later my mother called me saying that my grandma wasn't alert and that I needed to get there ASAP.. The next few days my family and I just sat with her holding her hand and spending time with her.. She never woke up and peacefully passed away 3 days later... I would never recommend the Gurwin assisted living to anybody.. If they had taken better care of my Grandma she would have still been alive for a lot longer.. After it was too late the nurses said she should have gone to get an IV drip to get some nutritions into her body.. They said it would have probably helped... My family and I are heartbroken over the whole situation and we miss my grandma like crazy....

From the first meeting, every person was compassionate and helpful. There wasn't anything that they wouldn't do to make my mother comfortable and happy and they were supportive to all family members. The quality of the facility was superior with great attention to every detail. We were very happy with all the services.
