I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I feel comfortable with the people at Promenade at Chestnut Ridge. The money is not going to last forever, so they have a plan to transition to Medicaid, which a lot of places in the New York area do not have. The people are good. The nursing is good. My aunt has moved in a month and a half ago. The staff are very nice. They seem to be accommodating. They say the right things. My aunt is going to be 95. When I call her room, she is out playing bingo or at a concert. She'll complain about stomach issues and then I found out she's eating ice cream when she knows she's not supposed to. I believe they're doing their best there. We were told my aunt had COVID, but they were still willing to work a way out to help me. They went out of their way. They isolated her for 10 days and they helped me out. So I'm indebted to them for being kind to my aunt and helping me. The layout is nice. It's a little dated, but they keep it very clean. I know the food is good, too. With regards to activities, they seem to have bingo every day and concerts. However, it's unbelievably expensive.

I went to Promenade at Chestnut Ridge. My sister went there about a month ago or so. I visited first and told her about it and how much I liked it. And so she's there now. I liked how spacious it was. I liked the outside of the grounds. I liked how they were doing some activities. I liked the rooms, I only saw the bedrooms that one person used with the bathroom, but I liked a lot of stuff about the place. I saw them doing bingo. There wasn't a whole lot going on because of the COVID. I know they have activities, but not a whole lot as they had before the COVID. They had a library. They had a game room. They have a movie room where they watch movies. I felt my sister would fare better in that place. I just liked the openness of it all. I thought they were reasonably priced. I only met the person running it, her name was Nancy and she was very cordial, very informative and gave us a lot of information to go home with just to look at.

Dont put your parent here. Management unresponsive to requests. 1.5 activity directors for 145 residents. Poorly trained staff who bark orders and dont know how to deal with elderly. Dad fell and no one realized it, they were content to let him sleep. Only 45 residents left after the Covid debacle here. The kept dad in solitary confinement for over eight weeks in his 10 X 12 cell, staff would run in with meals and run out. He couldn't even go and walk the hallways. Didn't tell families that they had 12 deaths at facility. What was a decent facility has lost all credibility and should be closed.

I visited this facility

This has to be the most unusual review I have ever written. I’m reviewing an assisted living facility for a place that my mom chose NOT to go to. This is different, right? What can I say? I felt compelled! Trying to determine where to place an elderly family member who can no longer live on their own can be numbing. You don’t know if you’re asking the right questions, if the facility will have the amenities your loved one needs. You worry about money, about the staff and whether they are good at their jobs and will truly take time to help. You worry about medical assistance should it be needed. Welcome to The Promenade at Chestnut Ridge! You walk into the most exquisite lobby - bright, clean and elegant…yet warm and cozy. You are greeted by an incredibly kind and welcoming staff who go out of their way to answer any and all questions. The Promenade offers: three prepared meals every day; medical assistance on site; a calendar filled with activities of every type - literally something for everybody! The major thing that pulled Mom away from Promenade was her need for privacy. Promenade is one of the few places that offers a Medicaid possibility when a resident’s money runs down. A very attractive option for those of us without major monthly funding. Unfortunately, the downside is that Medicaid requires two tenants to share an apartment - making the unit a crammed situation at best. Mom chose independent living with her own kitchenette, living room, bedroom and bathroom. If however, space sharing is not an issue for your loved one, seriously consider The Promenade at Chestnut Ridge! So much to offer. So many kind people. A “must see” when the people who took care of us need help taking care of themselves. Don’t they deserve the best? Good luck to all!

My dad is currently at the Promenade at Chestnut Ridge. It's a very nice place, but there have been some issues. My father had a roommate problem that wasn't very fun for him. I'm not thrilled about the nursing staff, but they're doing their job and dispense his medications efficiently now. My father likes the place but he doesn't always like their attitude towards it. They treat you like you're not alert; like, if you ask a question, they just turn away. The marketing woman was wonderful and very nice. There are a lot of nice people, but sometimes when they serve the food, some of them take it away too quickly from the patients and they're unhappy about that because they're rushing you. I think it's a very nice place with very nice activities and looks very inviting. The doctors come once a week, and you're supposed to have access to them, but that's not really how it is. It's not what I thought it would be, and it's definitely not how it was represented initially, but it's still good and probably still better than others. The general cleanliness is good. People seem to like it there, and it's pleasant. They have a nice backyard and nice ambiance.

Everything at Chestnut Ridge was nice. The staff was very nice and helped me as much as they could. The location was very convenient, but I didn’t choose it as they don’t accept Medicaid.

Chestnut Ridge is the number 1 place for me. We went there for a visit, and their rooms were very nice and clean. I like that the rooms were all situated on one floor. The whole place was clean.

The Promenade was OK. I’m going to bring my mother next week to look at it. The staff was terrific and friendly, and the rooms were small and clean.

My aunt is doing very well in Promenade at Chestnut Ridge (Formerly Esplanade Chestnut Ridge). I found this place to be more homey. She liked it, she moved in on respite, and now that she decided she is going to stay, she is doing fabulously. She looks wonderful and happy. She is well taken care of, she is really flourishing, and it's the perfect place for her. She has friends, and she participates in different activities. The staff are very friendly and outgoing, and they went out of their way to make her feel welcome and at home. They are very warm.

We were impressed from the very first time that we went to Promenade. The ambiance of the people was very warm and caring. We felt that it was the perfect fit for my mom. The first time we went there, we saw three different rooms. They were all very spacious and bright. The room we picked for her is a large studio with a large walk-in closet. It has two other closets and a little kitchen area. It is large enough for the family to visit rather than having two rooms. Originally, we thought we wanted a one bedroom, but it is actually working better because it is a large room. When family members come and visit, it is not crowded. It works out very nicely. I haven't had any meals there, but she said the meals are good. They are not super gourmet food, and it is kosher style food. It is good, and she is familiar with it, so she is eating well. The social director seems very involved with their residents. There are games she likes to play like mahjong, canasta, and bingo which keeps her busy during the day. They have entertainment coming in and out, and they have a Shabbat service on Friday afternoon. They have bus trips to take them out to lunch toward the Bear Mountain and the Hudson Valley. I have no complaints right now, and it is very nice. It is not a super fancy place, but it is very comfortable.

I visited this facility

I went to Promenade one afternoon and found the facility to be very nice. I met a couple of people, and the employee seems to be very nice and very friendly. They were interacting very well with the residents that live there. While I was there, they were having an entertainment session, and the residents were invited to come down to listen to the music being played by an outside person. They say entertainment goes on probably at least once a week. It was very nice, and they have coffee and tea set up too. It seems like all the residents were enjoying it, and some were up dancing to the music. I was able to see the dining area which was very nice. They have a little area where they can watch movies in the evening. They have a beauty parlor and medical office that you can go in to see the nurse. They showed me the laundry facility, and they informed me that they do the laundry for the residents once a week. The rooms are very nice. You can either get a single room or share a room with someone. They have call buttons in the room in case they need assistance. They also check on the residents if they don't come down for meals; someone will come checking to find out why they didn't come down. While the residents can eat in their room, they are encouraged to come down to socialize with the people. From what I saw and from what they told me, it is a very nice and well cared for facility. They seem to keep the place looking nice for the residents.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother is in The Esplanade which is now changing this month to The Promenade at Chestnut Ridge. I contacted a website, they gave me a few to look at, and I chose this one. The staff has been great. I've been very happy with everyone I've come in contact with. My mom is in a room that has a kitchenette. It is a fairly large room -- nice and bright -- and they're happy with it. I think the food is lovely. It is not the place; my mother is being uncooperative. Our experience isn't great yet. She is still adjusting. She is refusing to eat, she doesn't like the food, and she doesn't like anything. She just sits in her room and won't go to the activities of which they have many. The activities are great. They offer mass every other Sunday, and they have communion services every Sunday for those who wish to. They have bingo, and they read the newspaper to them every day. They have people coming in and doing singing, dancing, and sing-alongs. There are all kinds of activities. I've been very pleased. One of the reasons I chose it is if you run out of money, they will keep you because they accept Medicaid. That is a big deal.

We visited The Esplanade At Chestnut Ridge for my mother. It was twice the size than the other facility. The director was exceptionally nice. The rooms weren't as large though. Overall, the place was very warm and outgoing. There were a lot of activities. They have art classes and bingo. They also have a caring staff.

The Esplanade was a lot smaller, and I love that the residents are kind of all together. There was one activity in the common room, and they brought everybody down to the activity. They seemed to have a lot of things going on all day long. The person that I met was very nice, very caring, and followed up to see how we were doing. They don’t have a memory care unit though. The rooms were small, mother had to share a room, and it almost looked like a hospital. It was a little more convenient for me.

My father-in-law has moved to Esplanade. It was modestly priced compared to the other ones we saw. It seemed like it had a larger population than some of the other places. We really like the staff. It was a single room. It's not a studio, but a nice-sized room. We are pleased with the size of it, and everything is fairly clean and new. The bathroom had just been done. We picked this place because of the price, and it was also closer. We were worried that he would miss his own place, but he fit right in. He completely loves it there.

I placed my mother in the care of The Esplanade at Chestnut Ridge for a one week respite while my husband and I were away on vacation. My mother had a wonderful time there. The staff attended to her every need. Long story short, my mom keeps asking me when we will be going away again because she had such a great time there and is looking forward to her week stay also. I cannot thank them enough for giving me such piece of mind so that I could take a much needed vacation.

I chose this facility for my mother because it was close to me and my brother. It was clean. She didn't have a lot of money and they negotiated with us. They seemed really nice. But at the very beginning, they forgot about her. They didn't send somebody to take her down to lunch. She went in on Wednesday and she fell on Saturday. Why she fell, I don't know. She fell in her room. Then she was rushed to the hospital and she died on Sunday.
