The one that we're choosing for my father is The Plaza at Clover Lake. The floor plan of the entire facility is conducive to social socializing for the elderly people living there. It's assisted living but they try to let the people be as independent as they can be. The room we looked at was a studio. No microwave, refrigerator, or coffeemaker. They have a little coffee nook if you want coffee that is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. or something like that, and it's on a different floor. It's almost set up for memory care sort of because they don't have microwaves or coffeemakers in the rooms. However, they provide food and cleaning. And based on what services you need, then the price would go up. The staff who toured me around was very personable. She had connections to a local farm in the area, and that local farm does an outreach program to this facility where they bring animals to the elderly so the animals can interact with the elderly population. This girl started in the kitchen, then she worked in reception, and now she's doing sales, and I have a feeling that she does other things for them, too.

We looked at The Plaza at Clover Lake. Everybody was very nice. However, they only have studios, and I'm going in with my husband, so it was absolutely out of the question. We got a very good vibe from them. They were very nice except for the fact that they don't have anything larger than a studio. They had all the amenities; they just didn't have rooms. They do arts and crafts, they have movies, and they have yoga. We were very impressed. That was the place we were hoping for because it's five minutes from where my son and my granddaughter live, but we couldn't live in one room.

The Plaza at Clover Lake is a large facility. The other two we visited had about a capacity of 100. This one had a capacity of 175, and it was newer. It was only built in the year 2000. The rooms were larger and nice, but it was out of the way for us. It was quite remote. You really couldn't go out and have lunch easily or anything, but the facility itself was very nice. It was on three levels and they had elevators. They had a little bit more structured requirements for mobility. My husband is in a wheelchair generally, and I think they wanted him to be able to walk with a walker. He can walk with a walker, but he has a fear of falling at that point. He doesn't have good balance, so I think he's better off in the wheelchair. They were a little more stringent on that. They had a refrigerator in the room and little cabinets above it. It had a counter where they had the refrigerator underneath it, and the microwave could go on top and so forth, and there was a sink there. It was a little more modern. The bathrooms were also a little more modern. The person that took me around was very good. They would provide the furniture, so that was a plus. The thing I didn't care for was it was a little larger, and it seemed a little less personal. My husband said it feels like a hotel. It's fancier, and there's a big living area when you came in. It was modern and very nice. I won't say anything negative about it, but it was a little more impersonal. They accept community Medicaid, but not full Medicaid. They had a very nice outdoor area at the back. It was a big, open, sunny area, and you could overlook a pond or something that was further out because it was quite a large area. The place was on 50 acres. It was a little remote. It was removed from everything else, but it was very pretty and picturesque looking out to nature. It was new, modern, and very up-to-date. I had walked in unannounced. I had spoken to them earlier and made an appointment with them. Then, I had to cancel the appointment because I had another obligation. I came by later on another day and I just walked in, and while the person I would have normally spoken to was busy and doing an intake on somebody new who was moving in, they did provide somebody to show me around and gave me a tour. The woman who I saw, later on, gave me another tour, so they were very accommodating in that respect.

I visited this facility for my parents and tried the admissions process which was a complete disaster. I really wanted them to go there. It is so hard to find assisted living facilities where you can keep your parents close. I was led to believe this would be the place for them and spent a lot of time giving the plaza all the information they needed. We were then held there for five hours being interrogated by the nursing evaluator and then rejected. When asked why I was then completely ignored. The whole experience was a nightmare for my family.

My mom moved into The Plaza at Clover Lake. The staff has been very nice. They are all very attentive and give pretty good personal care. They seem to be taking good care of my mom, so that's good. Their serving staff and the food have all been excellent. They have a variety of foods, and the residents can choose. The facility is very good. They do bingo and Wii sports on the TV. They even have trips and stuff, so the activities seem pretty good as well. My mom's room has a refrigerator, but she shares it with a roommate. They have televisions. They do not have a pool. They have courtyard space in the back, a big patio, benches, chairs, tables, and a garden that they can go into as well.

The Plaza at Clover Lake is beautiful and really nice. They come across as assisted living, but it's really not -- just very minimal. It's a great place if you're for the most part independent. My father needs more care than they're willing to give, so it won't work for him, unfortunately. It's a beautiful facility, but it just did not portray its truth in what it will cover. It's a wonderful place, but it's almost like independent living. The rooms were nice; it's a beautiful place, and we fell in love with it. They have individual rooms and those with a roommate. They're nice-sized and clean.
