My mom is at Saints Joachim & Anne Nursing and Rehab Center. The place is clean. My mom gets to know the nurses and they're friendly. They try to do their best for her. My mom is in a shared room. For activities, they go down to do exercise every morning. They have a big courtyard. The staff there give my mom special treatment. They even go to the extreme of taking her clothes home and wash it and bring them back. And the food that she likes, they bring it to her too. They treat her very well.

This facility has a rating of Negative Numbers. Please do not have your family members admitted at this horrible facility. The disgraceful practices of this facility are inexcusable. This facility should be shut down. The patients are not cared for by the incompetent staff. Patients are not cleaned well, nor are they turned over in their beds resulting in bed sores. My family member died of Sepsis in this facility. My family member had a high fever and was not sent to the hospital in time to stop the infection. The hospital asked if we wanted an Autopsy performed, however, due to Religious Beliefs we could not agree to one. This facility has deplorable practices and employs incompetent and uneducated staff members who have no medical training or compassion. Please do not admit your Loved Ones to this Horrible place.

I'm writing this review as I am on the phone with D.O.H to file a complaint. My mother was in this facility for 5 weeks to finish antibiotics from an infection she had in her foot. In five weeks I spoke to the Dr in charge of my mothers care 1 time for 10 minutes. The only reason I was able to speak to him when I did was because I called everyday for two weeks before I was able to locate him. Every time I called to ask questions about my mothers care and treatment I could never get an official answer. Answers always came with I'm not sure Mr. you need to follow up with someone else. Not even the Social worker assigned to my mother could answer basic questions on my mothers care. I truly believe they lied to me and I felt like I had to post this. I don't know what is like to stay there, but as a person who had a family member stay there, I was not happy at all with the response time or the consideration that should be giving or shown to family members. Stay away if you have the choice.

today in the morning I nearly died. At the nursing home they clean ventilator patients without a properly trained respiratory therapist or nurse present. This is very likely illegal. The cna cleaning me put a wet towel over my face for a very long time till I nearly passed out. When I motioned that I couldn't breathe he continued cleaning me without any reaction. He started flipping me back and fourth till the point I couldn't breathe at all. Finally he went and got the respiratory therapist. Both respiratory therapists on duty came and the head nurse came. They thought I was having a seizure. I was shaking, couldn't breathe and my blood pressure was sky high. Eventually they were able to return me to normal. I thought I was going to suffocate and die. This is what happens at St Joachim and Anne nursing home to reduce staff and make extra profits. Please make sure to share this.

3-11-20 I moved my elderly mother into this place thinking it would relieve a huge amount of stress from my life….that she would be in a nice enough place and get the proper care she needed, after several falls and hospital stays. Was I in for a rude awakening ! Things actually became even more difficult than they already were. It seemed alright when I first toured the place, but that’s because I didn’t know the warning signs then. I had never done this before. But I learned very quickly. The first couple weeks my mother was in here, I became aware that I was blatantly lied to by the admissions person that I thought was so nice and helpful. They make it sound like they’re doing you a favor finding a space open, but in reality they have to fill the beds and bring in the $$. Then, when I confronted her about her lies in the presence of other St. Joachim and Anne staffers, she of course denied saying certain things that were integral in my decision to move my mom into this place. And, her co-workers automatically backed her up. I should have removed my mom from this place that very day. But, like most people, this was a very emotional and difficult time for me and I had already given notice on my mom’s apartment. As the weeks went by I realized I had to watch over EVERY little detail at this place. In my opinion, the lying by staff people was rampant. The main issues seemed to be with many of nursing staff and aides. Not all of them, but quite a few, incompetent nurses with major attitude and chips on their shoulder when questioned about anything. The various departments do not communicate with each other, and it seemed staffers were out on vacation or something quite often. In my opinion, the social workers all seemed to talk to each other in some kind of “code” language, choosing their words too carefully and covering their asses. I also felt that something was odd by the looks they gave each other. It seemed to me that the main goal was to protect the nursing home at all costs. The patients/residents needs were secondary at best. But, of course, they thought they were being very clever. Nobody at this place ever took responsibility for anything that went wrong. I’m sure they’re trained that way. Very few things were done correctly with the nursing staff. Their main priority seemed to be getting through their shifts and getting out. And they always pass the buck to another person so as not to admit doing anything wrong. I would come to find out that the nurses can basically do whatever they want, because they are protected from getting fired or anything else by the union they are in (I forget exactly what it’s called). And, the nursing home administration does nothing to properly oversee things, because they don’t want to lose nurses. I admit I fought with staffers here quite often, because I was the only person watching out for my mom. And, every time I went there I found problems and issues, and I spoke up about it, which they do not like. Many of the staff people actually try to boss family members around, as if they have to follow the rules, not the other way around. The only person here who struck me as being really competent was the main primary care doctor. Also, the activities people were very nice and the priests in the chapel were very nice. But that’s it. There was not one person working here that I felt I could trust. Finally things culminated one day when, in my strong opinion, staff people lost control of the day room, which is supposed to be a safe place for all the residents. One man was screaming for help, they were all yelling at each other, and the staff people just ignored it or were giggling at the situation. It was bedlam. I walked into this and became very upset. The male nurse just yelled at me and tried to order me around. He insisted I had to leave my mom in this situation. Of course, I didn’t do that. The nursing supervisor was busy eating at her desk and said to me “My mother would never be in a place like this” ! The director of the whole place also did nothing to actually help when I had to go to her. In my opinion, she also lies, gave me extreme attitude and made stupid jokes. In my opinion, this person is biggest joke in the place. I complained to everyone possible, but nothing really changed. Also, many little things; the housekeeping sucks. They almost never gave my mom clean towels. We always had to ask for blankets. They constantly ordered my mom around. The elevators were broken quite often, which was an obvious fire hazard. They only had the two elevators with over 200 residents. If you must get involved with this awful place, in my opinion, you should hire an outside aide to come in and look after your mom or dad. Watch over every detail and have someone with you when you have conversations with staff people, because they lie and will deny things later. Also, when the nursing staff lost my mom’s hearing aides, the nursing home said they would pay for new ones, which of course never happened. After one year of all this trouble, other arrangements were made for my mother and we got her out. Basically, keep your distance from this bad place at all costs !

I am/was a resident of this facility

I would recommend this place to anyone, wonderful nursing and rehab staff- always encouraging and very courteous with residents and family. Rehab tries their best to make everyone better again, rehab director makes sure therapists are treating you based on your need, Hes very hands on with therapists and residents , a family like atmosphere. Ive been to other facilities but this is the best facility to make you better.

Negligent, incompetent and unsupervised staff on the whole. I feel for those that may try to do an ethical job there. If you see abuse the supervision becomes defensive and threatens to ban you from visitation. Internal investigations of abuse are not effective as no disciplinary action is taken, and unionized workers do what they wish. Older patients are not bathed well, turned over or fed properly with patience. Nursing supervision is terrible, backed by a belligerent upper management. Look for an alternative, and don't be fooled, as we will were.

Stay away from this facility. There nursing department is absolutely horrible, as well as the physicians and the physical therapy dept is sub par at best. The front desk staff and the recreation department are the only positive aspects of this facility. They make careless mistakes and do not treat the residents with respect. The food is also sub par with no direction in the kitchen. There are better choices out there for your loved ones who need real care.

My dad did not receive the proper care her at all. They totally did not recognize his problemwhich was adanced congestive heart failure. They pushed the rehab am and pm When he did not want to do it in pm the director told me he was uncooperative HE COULD NOT DO IT. My father suddenly could not get out of a chair (he was an active person his whole life ) and the reason why he was sent there from the hospital His legs filled with water and one had red rash on top ... They put bacitrin on it and called it a day The doctor rehab director and some of the nurses are half baked at best And not to mention the place is not clean and they clean their room and bathroom poorly This place leaves a lot to be desired.

I don't like this community. Saints Joachim & Anne Nursing is OK, but I'm trying to get him out of there because the staff is not nice to him. Some of the housekeepers are not nice to him. They only turned nice because I started going there, but when I initially started going there, I observed how the housekeeper was treating the patients. If they were asking for something, they would fuss them out. They need to treat everybody with respect no matter what their condition. The maintenance of the place is OK. I see them mop the floor, so the floors are good. The front desk is always polite. The only problem I have is the housekeeper. I did eat there, and I didn't like the food. The food doesn't look presentable. As for activity, I heard somebody singing in the cafeteria. Then I saw they made cookies today. I know he is supposed to have rehab, but he told me they stopped doing it, and I don't know why. They won't tell me any information because I'm not the care proxy.

My mother n Law was at the Facility for a brief time, now she is deceased. But while she was at this facility, I could see the Staff took care of her needs and every other participate in such a nice way. These days some facilities do have employee who are insensitive to the elderly population. This facility gets top ratings from me. Thomas

I have a sixty year old friend that had a brain tumor recently removed and she is receiving care at the facility. She has a problem with wandering in the halls so a group of us have decided to take shifts in watching her and spending time with her. The staff here is courteous and willing to assist with anything. They really appreciate the extra assistance we are providing. The wandering is hard to keep in check. The facility is clean, state of the art and very well staffed. The area is in the heart of Coney Island beachfront residential area. If you need to stay all day you should bring supplies for yourself. The facility is brand new and the only drawback is that the parking is very limited. Otherwise, from the security at the front desk to the nurses on the floor I would recommend this facility. You have to take a bus if you travel using public transportation.

I visited this facility

This skilled nursing facility is located in the heart of Coney Island. It faces the water, and has an outdoor yard for the patients/ family members to enjoy. They often host gatherings during the spring/summer months. I attended a Luau there after they did their renovations and it was a blast. It was so nice to see the patients outside enjoying the music, and food. Staff members were actually engaged with the patients, calling them by name, and putting lais on their necks. There were even some patients who were hooked up to some heavy equipment that were able to participate. It actually warmed my heart. Many Nursing Homes are dreary, have a distinct odor, and show little regard for their patients but St. Joachim & Anne is not that way at all. I've witnessed nurses sitting with patients in common areas, which is something you rarely see. I've even had the pleasure of dealing with administrators in admissions which whom were extremely knowledgable. They go above and beyond in helping families with placement. They also have knowledgable social/case workers who will assist you with the Medicaid process, which as many of you may know is an extremely overwhelming task. I would highly reccomend this facility if skilled nursing care is required for your loved one.
