My mom was in N Y Congregational Nursing Center. It wasn't the best experience, and my mom wasn't pleased being there. It took them a little while to actually start her therapy. They kind of put her to the back of the facility because they said she needed too much. It wasn't a really good experience. She said they put her in like the last room, they weren't really checking on her, and they pretty much gave her just mashed potato. I believe they had a recreation area where the patients could sit and enjoy each other's company, but due to COVID that wasn't possible. The communication was horrible, they didn't notify me about anything, I had to call them and hound them down. I would leave messages and no one would get back to me. It was horrible.

N Y Congregational Nursing Center is a rehab community for those that need it, but my aunt didn't need it. She was just there taking up space in a bed temporarily until she found a place that she can go to. Her room there was spacious and clean. The staff was good and was doing exactly what the staff was supposed to do. My aunt told me that hardly anyone is there during the night and that only one person watches the floor. They have activities and entertainment, and they also have celebrations like for Mother's Day and different holidays where they gather downstairs in the community area. It's a nice looking place and very up-to-date. They have sitting areas outside and downstair. I haven't eaten there but the food looks decent. I know that people who live there eat the food so it must not be bad. They give them different things and it looks good. I would rate the staff a five because I can see them working when I'm there. Like they feed the patients, they make sure they respond immediately when the patient calls them, and things like that. They're really OK. The only thing they could improve on is that they don't take the residents outside. They only take the residents down into the lobby when they have activities.

Nursing facilities are pretty depressing places, so I was never expecting to see something grand and amazing. However, this place - especially in comparison to other places in the Brooklyn/Queens area - is pretty nice. I felt that there could have been a few more activities and enrichment sorts of things, but other than that it was a nice place. There were lots of animals (two aquariums, a retired racing greyhound, and two aviaries of zebra society finches), which my grandmother really enjoyed (she loved animals). I wish she could have been on less medication...I feel like the amount that she was on only made her sicker and thusly increased the need for more meds, but that is more of an issue of modern medicine than an issue relating to the actual facility.
