Life Spire Assisted Living - Rio Rancho, NM was very clean. It seemed like a friendly atmosphere. The workers were encouraging the residents there. We were there when they finished lunch, and a lot of folks moved into the common room to watch TV. It was a home-like atmosphere. There were around 40 residents there and we only saw two caregivers for 40 people. There may have been more people there, but we just didn't see them. The rooms were very nice. They were well-decorated and maintained. Each room had a shared bathroom with another room. When we first got there, they were not aware that we were coming. We waited for a few minutes for the manager to get there, but they were very apologetic. It was all a good atmosphere and a good attitude towards it.

I really like Life Spire Assisted Living. It was really nice. It was clean. Some of the rooms were really nice sized. It looked like a really good place. That was my second choice. I would recommend them. However, I think you would have to furnish the apartment for your loved one, so that would have been hard. The staff member who toured me was very good. The outdoor area was a really nice area. They had one area that they showed me where the patients could go out and walk and do whatever they want. They could sit outside and enjoy the day.

Life Spire Assisted Living - Rio Rancho, NM was a nice, clean facility. It's just a little dreary. It didn't seem like people were having any fun. There weren't any activities going on for them at that time. They were just sitting there and watching TV. The accommodations were cozy. It's nice that they allow pets, as long as they have all their shots and are up-to-date with the vet. They allow you to bring your own dressers, if you like. There are Jack-and-Jill bathrooms. They also have private accommodations. It was nice. It's just my mom was a little shocked by a scene she saw with the facility, that people weren't really having a lot of fun. What's important to me is keeping people active, because if they're just sitting around all day, they get depressed. The staff during the tour was nice. I didn't really meet a lot of the staff. There wasn't really much to really see. The facility was clean. I understand the reason why they keep the front door locked, but at the same time, if something happens or if I need to get to my mom right away, it kind of sucks. I have to wait for staff to come out and get me or come to the front door. I don't like that aspect. I like being able to walk in the lobby instead of waiting outside in the cold while I'm waiting for somebody to get to the door -- because it took them a while -- but I understand they have to keep it closed for the seniors, because they don't want to have to issue a Silver Alert. They need to improve the activities overall for the residents, getting them more exercise, getting them active, so they're not just sitting around and watching TV, especially now it's getting colder. That would be the biggest problem I saw when I was there.

We chose to have dad at Life Spire Assisted Living-Rio Rancho, NM, because of its location, the friendliness of the facility, and their staff. We also like the fact that my dad has options, whether or not he wanted to have a cigarette, that he can do it in a safe environment. He's got a private room in the memory care and it's very nice, spacious, and clean.

We toured Life Spire Assisted Living - Rio Rancho, NM. The outside of the building was very, very nice and very well-kept. They had a water fountain off to the side. The front of the building was very appealing. We had an appointment but when we arrived there, they didn't even know we were coming. They had no clue. It was honestly one of the worst experiences I've had in touring. I would never think of taking my mother there. The people were sitting around in different areas. There were people in wheelchairs, and two people were sitting in a chair asleep. No activities were going on at all. There were staff members that were on break. I don't know what they were doing, but there were staff members sitting in two chairs talking to each other and eating potato chips. The person that gave me a tour was the director (I'm not sure). She was more interested in wanting to know what my mother's assets were. It seemed like to see if she could afford this place. She asked me pretty inappropriate questions about my mother's assets. When I asked for information, I didn't get not one piece of paper. Not a folder, not anything. She said that she didn't know the prices and that they changed all the time. I asked her for an activity calendar and a menu calendar, and she said that there weren't any available. She tore off a piece of paper and asked me to write my email address where she could send me information, and that was about four weeks ago, and I've yet to receive anything. It was a horrible experience there. I would never recommend anybody to go there.

I liked Life Spire Assisted Living, but it's too far for me to consider. They seemed to be knowledgeable about all the people that were there and seemed to be willing to accommodate them. The woman I talked to was knowledgeable and seemed very serious about everything, so I thought she was quite good.
