I visited this facility

We liked The Montebello on Academy a lot. We thought it was just right for us. The apartments were a good size and our furniture would fit there. I think we'd be comfortable. The menu was excellent and the food was excellent. They offer exactly what I think is the right thing. They'll choose your diet in any way you need to and you get one major meal a day, either lunch or supper, and you always get breakfast. So, having meals twice a day would be perfect for us. Everything seemed to be in excellent condition. It was very clean. We liked how often they do exercise classes. We feel like that's very important to our health. We also have a small dog and we loved their approach to what you're allowed to do with your dog there. They have a nice dog yard. Nicer than any of the other places in town.

Provider Response

Thanks for this feedback Rose! It was wonderful to read that The Montebello seems like a perfect fit for all of your needs -- and we're glad that the apartment size, wonderful meals and our pet-friendly approach all stood out to you. Please let us know if you have any other questions and we hope to see you again soon!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm living at The Montebello on Academy. So far, it's fantastic. I chose it because I have a sister who lives within three miles of the facility and that makes it very convenient to have a family nearby. The facility is gorgeous. The staff is fantastic, helpful, and very friendly. They have every activity you can think of. They have card games, chair yoga, exercises of all sorts, and cocktail hour. They have saunas, beauty parlors, a bar, and a beautiful restaurant. I don't know that they could be any better.

Provider Response

Thanks for this lovely review Harriet. We're thrilled to know that so many parts of the community continue to impress you, and appreciate your kind words for our team. We're very glad you call The Montebello your home as we love having you as part of our community!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a current resident. My experience has been very good until recently. They are undergoing a massive outflow of staff now, and inadequate new hiring, causing services to deteriorate. Two instances: (1) A pipe burst in my A/C. I called the front desk, but it took six hours of water running down the hall before any staff showed up to fix it. (2) They are trying to reopen the dining room with only two wait staff (both new hires) for a large number of people. Yesterday (7/5), I waited 90 minutes for service. The sole staffer, who I had not met before, waited on everyone else, even all those who arrived after me, and refused to serve me until the last other people were finishing up. I guess she didn't like how I looked or something - who knows.

Please do not chose this facility as a rehab. My uncles wife had to asked multiple times a day to get him some water, it was never refilled. My uncles also must have been mistreated because from the time he was released from the hospital to the time he needed to get back to the hospital, because of dehydration he had blue marks all over his back. The dehydration was so bad that it effected his kidneys. The stuff is either overworked or just doesn't care about those patients!

Provider Response

I am the Executive Director and we treat feedback like this very seriously as the health and safety of our residents is our top priority. I would very much like to speak with you and your family members about your experience during the time your Uncle was with us for a rehab stay. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. Regards, Amy.

I didn't like The Montebello on Academy as well as the others. There were some places in it that had a smell that I didn't like. It just didn't have a very good feeling in the way that the residents didn't look happy. I did not see much interaction between the staff and residents, and in that consideration I marked it off of our list. The place itself was pretty nice. Other than that one section that had a bad smell, the rooms seemed nice enough. It just didn't feel like a good fit.

Provider Response

I am the Executive Director and I am sincerely interested in your comments. Our goal is to provide a warm and inviting residence and I am sorry you did not feel that during your recent visit. I would be delighted to connect you with residents and family members who can tell you about their experience at our community so you can get a better sense for life at The Montebello on Academy. Please contact me at the community if we can be of further assistance as you look for senior living options. Regards -- Amy.

The model room at The Montebello on Academy was very clean, very nice, and ready to go for someone to move into it. You can go from assisted living down and you don't have to move. You've got everything there. They're very nice and make you feel at home. They have a library. The building itself was very nice.

The Montebello on Academy is excellent. They have good food and nice people, and it's well kept up. They have a small workout room but no swimming pool. They have a whole calendar full of activities. Everyone there is in a good mood and happy. It's got all of the signs of a pleasant place. My mother-in-law is living in independent living.

The Montebello on Academy was nice but a little pricey. It was more like a hospital environment. It had everything my brother needed, even more than I thought. The prices were OK for what they did, and they provided a lot of services. I thought it was a good place.

I went on a tour at The Montebello on Academy. I got claustrophobia because the hallways are narrow. It was fine, although it seemed kind of old. The person who gave me the tour was very friendly and did a good job. The rooms looked fine, but I'm coming from an 1,800-square-foot house, and to move into a 700-square-foot apartment is a daunting task. But then again, all the apartments are small as far as I'm concerned. Other than the hallways, it is a very nice place. It looked fine with nothing really exciting.

Provider Response

Larry, I am the Executive Director and want to thank you for visiting with us recently and sharing your thoughts. The team at The Montebello on Academy takes great pride in our beautiful building and grounds and the care we provide to our residents on a daily basis. I would love to arrange a new tour as our community's corridors have just completed an amazing new refurbishment. In addition, to reassure you of our care and hospitality, I would be delighted to connect you with residents and family members who can tell you about their experience at our community. Please contact me at the community and we wish you the best as you look at senior living options.

The Montebello on Academy had a room that was being completely remodeled, which would have been very nice. I said I'd be interested in getting that room, and they said OK. I kept in touch with them, but one day, I got a call from the salesperson that I have been doing business with and she said they gave them that room. They told me I could get the room next to it, so I went over to look at it, but it had to be completely remodeled. The saleswoman said that it would look like the other one, to which I said OK, and she asked for a deposit for it. I said I wanted to see what the room looks like, but she said if I wanted to make sure I get the room, I need to give a deposit. I gave them a check for $3,250, but I was upset that they gave away the room that they promised, so I wanted to ask for my money back. I called them and told them to send it back, and the saleswoman said they're only going to send me back half. I asked her what she was talking about, and she said it's the way it works. I said nobody told me a thing about it, and it’s not in any of the papers I signed. My daughter called them and had a real conversation with them, and finally the saleswoman said they'll return the money. That was a week ago, and I still don't have my $3250 back. It's been a disgrace. They lied to me and now they're holding up my money. It's a terrible way to act. I would not recommend them to anybody after what they had done.

Provider Response

SK -- I am the Executive Director and want to apologize for the confusion. We had tried to get in touch with you on the first apartment in which you where interested, however at the time you were not able to commit so we offered this to another family. As we have explained, we do ask for a deposit if someone wants us to hold a unit -- but as you have since changed your mind we have fully refunded your deposit. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions and we wish you the best as you continue to look at senior living options.

The rooms at The Montebello on Academy were very small and looked more like a nursing home. It didn't look like there was a lot going on. There was an activities room. The dining area was fair, but I did not eat there. There was an attractive outdoor area. The people seemed friendly enough.

I visited The Montebello on Academy, and it turned out to be something we would consider if the need arises. We found it to be quite satisfactory in meeting the needs that we had for any short-term experience. The staff was very cordial, and we had a tour with all of the different areas that would be appropriate for him to be in. It was so close to the house, and it was a nice place. Everything was clean and neat. The rooms had windows, and the ones I saw were bright and airy looking.

My parents are in The Montebello on Academy. It was exactly what we were looking for. It is independent living, and they have an apartment. They have limos and vans, they take them shopping and trips, and they have exercise classes. I found everyone helpful. What impressed me is they knew all the residents by name.

The Montebello is a lovely facility, but it is quite expensive. The reason we didn’t choose it was because we didn’t like the transportation policy and what they had to offer. The apartments wasn’t as nice as the facility my mom is in, and my mother needed something to stay right away.

The Montebello is a really nice facility, and the staff was really helpful and informative. The food is really excellent, and the dining area was very clean -- almost like a restaurant. It has an activities director, -- who was really good -- and interacts with them. It would be a pretty nice place. The rooms were really nice. it was roomy with nice windows. They usually had a receptionist or somebody at the entry; it was pretty secured. It’s a gated parking.

I was very pleased with The Montebello. I was impressed with the way they took care of my mom and the relationship between the residents and the staff. The room was small, but she wasn't staying there very long. They tried to make her involved in the activities, but she didn't want to. I would recommend them to others.

I visited The Montebello for my parents. The grounds were definitely well kept and they had lots of plants, bushes and grass. Landscaping was really good. In terms of location, it is not near a hospital, but there is a park close by. They had lots of activities. I would recommend this place to others. All the space they have in the community areas was really good. They have a lot of space for visitors and family and they have extra room in the dining room.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Dad lived at the Montebello on Academy from October 2013 til February 2014. He lived in the assisted living section. The Montebello was outstanding. The staff is loving, caring and very good. They offer many activities everyday, including weekends. The aides that bathed him, cared for him on a daily basis were great. I would not recommend using the in house doctor at this facility. I found him to be rude and grossly negligent. But that is a choice families can make. It is expensive but as with these facilities, you get what you pay for. While he was dying, the care from the staff and residents was incredible. So much support, hugs and genuine caring for me and him. At the twilight of his life he was well cared for and he was loved by the staff. I am grateful I was able to have him live there. I will add ; I was there everyday. I found that even with the best care only a family member can oversee your loved one care.

My Mother was a skilled nursing patient at the Montebello for about 4 months. The care was truly exceptional and the food was excellent. The nurses were very good and the CNA's worked their fannies off. I highly recommend the Skilled Nursing department at this facility.

The one that we really liked was Montebello and I think that's the most expensive one in town. Considering that my sister has a health issue, it had the possibility that, if we lived there and she needed more care than I could give her, she could move down to another section of the building. Everybody was so friendly, and they had special things going on. The atmosphere was lovely, and we liked their several different rooms. There were a lot of cozy places that you could just sit by yourself if you wanted or participate with other people. It was very clean, and there was a community room on the third floor with a glass wall that we absolutely adored because it looked out to the mountains. They invited us for a meal, but we didn't eat there. However, we saw the dining room, and it was very cozy. If you don't want to eat there, you could just order your meal and eat it in your apartment.

The Montebello on Academy was extremely good. We were very impressed with it, and they gave us a good tour. It was extremely clean and nice. The menu looked good. The rooms that we saw seemed to be laid out well. It looked like you could be comfortable in them, just not with a lot of stuff. It kind of reminded me of a cruise atmosphere. They had a bar and a little theater. They seemed very nice, except for one floor where the show room was, the smoke had stuck and it had a terrible odor from smoking.

Provider Response

We are delighted that you found your personal visit to The Montebello to be impressive, We appreciate the comparison to a cruise ship as our goal is to have excellent customer service, Five Star Hospitality and a full calendar of recreational and social opportunities. We are concerned that you noticed a smoke odor in that area. We are currently in the process of becoming a smoke free community. I would be pleased to discuss that process and the time line for completion with you.

We moved to The Montebello on Academy last December. We chose it because of its location. It's a three-story building built back in the late 80's. It is well maintained and it’s very comfortable and that's all we needed. The staff seemed fine. We have no problems with that all. The apartment that we have is very nice – two bedroom, two bath, a living room, and a kitchen. They have all kinds of activities that is going on daily like trips and they provide transportation to the doctors and shopping centers.

The Montebello on Academy is my facility of choice. I like their apartments, it's very nice. I also like their services. I could afford it. The food is always good every time I’ve been there and it's healthy. I have a good friend that lives there. I would recommend this facility very highly. I like the way it’s managed and the cleanliness of the place. They have lots of activities like movies and card games. Periodically, they take bus trips to various places. I especially like their evening dinner service. They have waiters and waitresses. They have tablecloths, cloth napkins, it’s very nice. I noticed too that in the evenings the people come in a little more dressed up. The staff seemed to be good. The rooms are of reasonable size, some are larger than others. The bedroom has lots of closet space and it also has a patio.

The Montebello on Academy was a beautiful facility. They just have about everything that you could imagine in terms of care. Their staff was very friendly. The common areas were not any better than any other facilities that I saw. I also looked at their two-bedroom apartment, there was not a lot of space and there was no full kitchen. For the price, it was not worth it. It was a beautiful facility, however, it was way too expensive for me.

Recently I had to put my husband in this facility due to his illness. It was quite overwelming for me to take care ofhim on my own. The location is perfect. I live right across the street in an apartment complex and the staff is very welcoming. I can visit every day... The stores are really close less than 2 blocks away. he is vet and uses the VA facility and they have no problems taking him to his appts. As well the staff is very understanding to each patients needs and are there for them . I personaly would not have him in there if I did not feel comfortable . He also feels comfortable and has been more relaxed since his move 6 months ago
