I visited this facility

I was very impressed with Camino Retirement Apartments. They were one of the few that took the time to give us a tour. We were having coffee talking to the manager, and my brother spilled his coffee, and the manager jovially asked one of the kitchen help to come in, bring a mop up and clean it up, and that person was very pleasant. Everybody we encountered was so nice. They were interacting with the people coming and going. We even met the bus driver. It was a very enjoyable experience. My brother hung out and asked the residents their opinions. The staff who assisted me carefully explained everything and she gave us a history. We weren't able to meet the activity director that day, but this person was dedicated to giving the tours. She was a little bit delayed with the people she was showing around before we got there, and I didn't mind waiting for her one bit because, when she got to us, she gave us her complete attention. We were shown the cafeteria and they had the chalkboard menu, and it looked very promising. They had a variety of choices for breakfast. They would have two entrees for lunch and then two soups for dinner. For the rooms, my brother can have his own coffee maker and a small kitchen counter with a very small refrigerator, so he was really happy with that. They had food out at all times. They had pastries left over that were individually wrapped, and they offered them to us on our tour. When the manager went to get the kitchen staff with the mop, he came out eating a nice chunk of cake.

Camino Retirement Apartments was an old building, and it has not been upgraded the way the other facility that I went to did. It looked very tired. It's very dark and a lot of the residents were sitting in wheelchairs and I'm not ready for that yet. They just had regular outdoor parking and didn't have underground parking. I had lunch there though and it was delicious. The staff was also very nice and very pleasant.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom came to a place in her life that she was no longer able to live alone and didn't want to live with my husband and I so we set out to look for a place we found Camino Retirement as we had passed it several times we decided to stop in and that was the best thing that happened to my mom she was able to live in her own space/apartment but get the help she needed as needed. We appreciate the staff and outstanding care she received in her last years. Camino will always be a place we recommend and are thankful for. We still stop by and see my moms sweet friends and staff its a community/family.

Camino Retirement Apartments was an older place and I did not care for it because the independent living was combined with the assisted living. I didn't think my mom would have fit in there at all. There was one elevator that took forever to go up and down the different levels. The staff member that assisted us was very friendly. They had posters in every hallway for the residents to see what was going on. I did not care for the dining area that much because it seemed small to me.

I didn’t think Camino Retirement Apartments was very patient-friendly. They seemed to me like they didn’t care whether the patients needed help. Maybe it was the time of day that I went. Everybody was busy, but people were looking for nurses, and it just hit me the wrong way. The 1-bedroom suite was a little bigger, but it was a lot higher, too. The lady that took me around was very friendly. She kept telling me that everything would work out OK. The food was horrible. It looked like it was a leftover from a couple of days. They threw a bunch of it together and served it up.

That staff at Camino Retirement wasn’t very helpful to my dad and the building wasn’t in great shape. The people seemed pleasant enough, but they didn’t really interact with anybody. It had a basic cafeteria.

Camino Retirement was terrible. I wouldn’t recommend that anyone should stay there at all. Nobody met us there. We didn’t find anybody at the desk, so we had to go looking for somebody. We waited for about 15 minutes until we finally found a home health aide, and we just asked her to convey the message to the manager that we came and were waiting for someone and couldn’t find them. It was in a poor area of town, really rundown, and in poor condition, so it was not a good option. The place was dirty and didn’t look like it was kept up very well. I didn’t even get to see an apartment because nobody was there.

Provider Response

Pam, we are sorry you had such a poor experience while visiting Camino during a recent weekend. Our staff was likely addressing a resident issue when you stopped by. However, we have re-examined our weekend front desk protocol to make sure this does not reoccur as well as to make sure our maintenance is on a par with our weekday protocol. Our location in Northwest Albuquerque is a good neighborhood and gets lots of City attention due to its location near Monzano High School. We appreciate your feedback and hope you find a great senior living residence.

I visited Camino Retirement Apartments. Everyone seemed to care, it was a good place for the price, and the one-bedroom room was still new. They had a bunch of activities lined up.

I visited this facility

We visited Camino Retirement Apartments. We're very pleased with the staff and the cleanliness and everything that we saw. The rooms were very nice, very spacious, and very clean. It was overall a very good experience, and I was very pleasantly surprised. They had two floors and an elevator. The dining rooms were very nice, not really large, but very well-accommodated. They do bus them to Walmart or to the movies or wherever they would like to go. It was a little bit older facility, but it was very nice.

Provider Response

Thank you for providing such detailed feedback on your tour. We take great pride in making Camino feel like "home." All the items you mentioned — cleanliness, friendly staff, a nice dining room and transportation — are key elements. We hope to welcome you to our community soon!
