I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The staff at Bright Side Manor is very friendly. My mom just moved in and is in quarantine, so she doesn't have the ability to walk around and participate in anything. All I can say is so far, so good. I chose this place because I was looking for a more reasonably priced community and also less care than her previous nursing facility. Bright Side is the only reasonable place in Bergen County, and they accept Medicaid, which no other place does. It's good for families who need something reasonable financially. It's in a nice location, it's in a family neighborhood, and the staff is really nice. They're building a new addition to the facility, too, so you're getting nice, new construction at the same time. You're getting more bang for the buck. They have activities listed that my mom would be interested in, but she's still in quarantine. But it looks good on paper.

I visited this facility

Bright Side Manor was not good. It was a dark, dingy, and a very tight place. There was a water stain on the ceiling in the dining room. You could also smell the food as soon as you walk in the door. I saw a room which was just a shared room. The staff members were very nice and helpful, but the place needed an overhaul.

I'm sorry you felt that way Michael. I have been the administrator at Bright Side Manor for almost 30 years and, during that time, we have been a tremendous resource for many low and middle income older adults who can not afford typical "traditional" assisted living communities or who have spent down their life savings elsewhere only to find themselves being asked to move out. Bright Side is an older facility - it has been providing housing for older adults for over 100 years. A renovation in 2003 brought it up to the standards for licensure as an assisted living facility and we are the only community in Bergen County that accepts direct admission of residents on Medicaid. Our Food Service Director, a former NYC restaurant chef, has an outstanding reputation and we've been told by State Inspectors that we are the only facility where the residents rave about the food. So I'm not sure why smelling food when you visited was a negative. Most visitors comment on how good it smells when they visit! Yes, our space is tight. With many of our residents using walkers, we wish our hallways were wider! We would also like to have more private rooms . As it turns out, we are working with an architect on a plan to build an addition on our building that will provide more space and more light. We hope to launch this project in the very near future. In the meantime, we are very proud of our staff who, as you describe, are nice and helpful, warm and caring and ensure that our residents feel safe, secure and comfortable. We enjoy close ties to our community and enjoy the involvement of many faith based organizations, volunteers of all ages, local businesses and civic groups. We all proud to be a resource that ALL older adults can afford and, over the years, have served not just low and middle income seniors but also seniors with tremendous resources who selected Bright Side because they appreciated the quality of care and the feeling of being at home. The other review posted on this site speaks to the way our residents' families feel about us. We look forward to continuing to serve our community and continually improving our home and our services.

Bright Side Manor is a gift from God for my sister. It's extremely difficult to find a caring facility that accepts medicare / medicaid. I don't know what we would have done without Bright Side. She gets quality care, great food, and lots of activities. Thank God for Bright Side.
