We like Spring Hills Somerset. I thought the facility was modern and clean. We found that there are a lot of options for food. The dining facilities were also clean and very updated. We also like that the fact that in the memory care unit, they assign someone specific to your mom, so you have someone pretty much you can go to or call and get updated status on how she's doing. We just like that kind of one-on-one offering that they've had. The rooms are clean and spacious. They were pretty much studios. They didn't do anything with one bedrooms, but they were a decent size. I found that to be a plus. They have a general area where they have a TV, and they watch movies together. There is a lot of camaraderie between memory care patients that are there. They do offsite trips to the parks just to get them outdoors and get them outside. The staff was very informative. She was good at the job. What I've seen was impressive.

We just moved my parents up at Spring Hills Somerset assisted living. My siblings, there are 6 of us and 3 of them have gotten together and viewed this place. My job was just to take them there to show them where they were going to be moving, and that's what I did. As far as the level of care, staffing and facilities, they appeared nice when I was there. My mom said the food is good too. My dad's on a pureed diet and they seem to accommodate him very well with anything off the menu, which I'm happy about because otherwise, it's very limited. I think my siblings chose the place because of the location because they all live within like 5 or 6 miles of that facility. That, I think, is the primary reason that they chose it, along with the fact that my parents could have two rooms and have the pureed meals for my dad. That was the big factor because not every facility offers that. I took my parents there to show them the rooms and did the measurements, so we knew what furniture they could move. It seemed like it was very well maintained and very well kept. All the staff was welcoming and pleasant. They were able to address our questions immediately as far as my parents' concerns. There was just a little bit of a glitch when they went to move in. They were told they were going to have one kind of carpeting and then it was switched and they weren't told about it. My parents weren't happy about that part. I know stuff happens but I realized that they should have been informed, it should have been communicated that there was a change because they would have chosen a different color. They're not happy with the rug they put in their room. Beyond that, though, we were able to have lunch that day and we all tried the menu and the food, and that seemed like it was very good. The staffing seemed adequate, and the residents seemed like they were content as well. They had a very varied menu and some things were offered regularly. The menu changes weekly and then daily you have different choices, from Monday through Sunday. They offered a good variety of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There were at least 7 entrees for lunch and supper. The staff is very welcoming and accommodating. They try to answer all of our questions and concerns. They email us with follow-up if we had questions that they couldn't answer at that moment so I would say the communication was very good and they seemed like they genuinely wanted my parents there. They were doing some chair exercises when we walked through, but there's a whole schedule of the activities that they print of what goes on daily and what time. You can choose to partake or not partake depending on what you have going on in your own life during the day. My parents have a lot of therapy right now so that kind of cuts into their availability to partake in the social activities, but I think that they will in time. Overall, I would say the upkeep is good although there were a couple of things that we noticed outside. There was an air conditioner leaking over an exit door when we had to go out into the courtyard. They had to be aware of that so it was kind of a disappointment. I would say that the maintenance was probably average. There is a beauty salon, a laundry, and a small store. I know my mom had her hair done there already. We were in a private room when I was there because my parents have just been COVID tested and we had to wait because of the Covid situation, so we didn't eat in the dining room. The dining room appeared to be set up nicely though with all tables spaced adequately apart. It was a nice size room and it was not crowded. We have checked out a few other places before choosing this one. Location was the number one reason this was chosen. Number two was that they were offering a good discount for my mother's rate for the rest of her life or something like that. That was part of what my siblings thought we were getting good value on but it's still too expensive. Everybody starts with a base rate and then they assess you as a patient, then they decide that they're going to charge to shower you, puree your food, or if they're going to have to do any extras for you. I guess it's too expensive, period, no matter where you go.

My tour at Spring Hills Somerset was ok. I preferred what I saw in another community; this was nice, but some areas were a little more clinical. It's home-like but not homey. I saw the menu and it's quite substantial. I was able to see the rooms; they weren't as up-to-date as the other places we've seen. They have sitting areas, they also have a small space outside. The people were eating at the time we toured. The tour experience was fine, it's just that it's not what I would choose for my father. The staff who assisted me during the tour was very helpful but I didn't associate with the other staff. I thought there weren't as many staff members as other places I've seen, but I thought they might be busy with the residents.

I toured Spring Hills Somerset for my aunt, and the staff is wonderful. Everybody was helpful. The woman who accommodated me on our tour probably gets a 10 because she was very informative. Even if I didn't pick the place, she was very good with me. The overall appearance was dated. It was nice and clean, but it was not a new facility. The dining room looked nice, but dated. It was spacious, and they were following the Covid guidelines. I don't think they have a happy hour. They take trips. They play games, and they have some recreation; that part was nice.

The guy I met at Spring Hills Somerset was wonderful. He's the director of admittance. I'm one step from possibly moving my mom over to this community. It's a very nice place, nice entranceway, big hallways, and he offered it to me for $200 less than where my mom is currently at. The apartment I saw there was a studio apartment with a small refrigerator and a sink. They have a very nice painted walkway. It's a nice and clean apartment with indoor and outdoor carpeting, it's barrier free and has a walk-in shower. I have a friend who has been there for 4 years who loves everything including their food. I'm debating moving my mom there. Almost every day they put up a list of activities. At 9:00 they have breakfast, then afterwards they got different things going on. 12:00 is lunch, at 1:30 they may have a concert in the rec hall. They do activities where they all go to the rec area and would have an activity where they come up with words based on a letter, so they get to think. They have the same activities as her current community. The place itself is gorgeous, they've got everything there.

Spring Hills Somerset claimed they couldn't take my mom because she requires a two person assist to go to the bathroom and to help her get out of her chair. It wasn't bad though. The place itself didn't smell, but I noticed some of the residents smelled. They only showed me an empty apartment, which was not nice, but it was not bad at all.
