I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother lives in Langdon Place of Dover. They're very good there. The food is good, the care is good, and the nurses are good. They are, however, just like any other facility short-staffed through the whole COVID, so that was an issue. All in all, I rate them pretty high from what I've seen. The assisted living facility is great. It's pretty clean. They do a good job renovating. The walkways are always standard and sheltered. You could see that they put effort into it. The controllers got a handle on things. Her one-bedroom apartment is good. The living room and kitchen are together with the walkway and then the bathroom is separate. It's big for one person. She may have to go to a shared bedroom that's small in the care unit and I'm afraid that's going to be a problem. When we moved in, they repainted and put in new floors and new carpet. They do that to every unit. They do a good job at it and taking care of it. Everything there is pretty good. They have two or three PTs on board. They do swimming aerobics if you can. They have an indoor pool facility, so it's pretty nice. They do well with that. They have games, bingo, movie time, and prayer time twice a week or something like that. They also have people come in to sing for them. They really have quite a well-rounded venue. The food is great.

I got a call from the director of Langdon Place of Dover who said that there was a bed available and if we wanted to come down and look at it. So, she was just on the ball and I thought that was great, because we had to get Dad out of the place he was in. The head nurse does well and everybody's been doing well with the memory care residents. They have done what I've requested of them and I just love the head nurse. She's been very helpful with Dad and even makes suggestions. One of the things I like about their activities is my dad is a Marine veteran and once a month, they have a group that meets and talks about whatever they want to do. They put stars up from different people and what service they were in. I just thought that it was great that they're recognizing that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend stayed in Langdon Place of Dover on respite. It was during COVID times. I did not find it to be particularly clean. The person that I had stayed there on a respite visit. I could never reach her by phone. She did not have a phone, and every time they told me I could just call the desk and I could never reach her. She felt alienated and thought we had just put her somewhere and ignored her because none of her friends could reach her. And the director, I think she was the director, I can't remember her name. She was pressuring my friend to sign papers to live there permanently. And I was just very unhappy with the service that she received there, and the fact that she was constantly being pressured to make a decision about staying there permanently. It felt like it was just high pressure selling. My friend was never involved in any activities for the time that she was there. Her room was very small, very small, and confined. She was able to get her hair cut.

I visited this facility

Langdon Place of Dover was good. The building and the grounds looked very good. The staff and the people we met were very friendly. The biggest drawback is what they call a suite where they share it with two people, it is about a 10 x 10 room with no other facilities in it other than a TV. I don't know why they call it a suite because it isn't. They get you three meals a day, but that's it. It was very clean and well-maintained. They have an indoor pool, an exercise area, and movies. They have a fair number of activities for their residents. The biggest thing is the cost and what you get for that. It's an assisted living facility and $2800 get you your room but there's no assisted. Everything that you should need is extra. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. It's an older building but they maintained it well.

I had 2 friends stay there. One had ti stay a while after colostomy, another, a hip replscemeng. Fresh water is NOT even provided unless asked for. Langdon place was once highly respected place and one everyone wanted to go to. Now? Just another hole in the wall. All patients there? Get MINIMUM CARE. The facility? They will deny my review. Please do NOT put your loved ones there to suffer. After what I was told by a daily visitor, before covid, and another during covid? SHAME ON YOU LANGDON PLACE. SHAME ON THE CARETAKERS THAT MAKE A RESIDENT RING A BELL, WAIT, & WAIT & WAIT FOR SOMETHING BASIC LIKE WATER. I have lived long enough to PRAY I DIE AT HOME THAN GO INTO A HOLE IN THE WALL LIKE LANGDON PLACe. Oh and I tell ANYONE THAT WILL LISTEN!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm living in Langdon Place of Dover right now. I've been here for rehab, and for the most part it's been very, very good. The care from the girls is good. They're a very caring staff. The food is, for the most part, very good. They have a great OT and PT staff. The LNAs are, for the most part, very, very good. You always have the one that you don't get along with, but the nurses are excellent, and the social worker is superb. She's very good with her job, and she's very caring. I can't always get in touch with her when I need her, but she's busy, and I realize that. The main person that admits people is very accessible and I've been able to talk to her. In fact, she called my husband before I even came here, and told him this is where I was coming, and if I needed anything to give her a call. It's kind of laid that groundwork, and that was very good, and that made things very easy. One day, the head cook and the social worker came into my room and wanted to know what was good, what was bad, what was ugly. They wanted to know what they were doing right and what they were doing wrong. I told them, and they were very glad. I was very open about what I felt about what they were doing because there were a few things that we tweaked on the menu, and I let them know, and they tweaked them. There were a few things on the menu that I said, "Why do you put this and this together?" and they went, "Oh, you're right, why do we do that?" I have Crohn's, and every Sunday night they put a salad on my tray, and every Sunday night I send it back saying, "I told you no salad," and it's right on my ticket: no salads. There are those little things that still need to be tweaked. I'm in a two-person room, it's nice, and airy, and it's got windows. We both have windows right beside our beds, with a little hall that goes out to the main hallway, one bathroom, the showers are down the hall, and we each have a closet. It's nice, and bright, and painted yellow. We each have a TV.

I visited this facility

We are talking to Langdon Place of Dover about putting a deposit down for my mother. She needs to get her Covid vaccine before she goes in there. My mom chose it because it felt very homey and she felt very comfortable there. They were running their vaccine the day we visited and we had to be screened pretty heavily. We didn't really go everywhere in the place. We could only go see the room and wherever people weren't. It was a very short Covid friendly tour. The room was beautiful, gorgeous and spacious. We couldn't meet everybody, but whoever we met was very nice, and my mother definitely loved them. As far as location, it's near the highway and it's convenient.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother moved into Langdon Place of Dover but she passed away in September. It was good. It was closed due to Covid so we really never went in there. She was there less than a month. She had a stroke about three and a half weeks after she got there, however, the nurses were phenomenal. I would get text from them about how my mother was doing. My mother was having little mini strokes, but the nurses were fabulous. She had a heart attack before she went in, so she needed level 3 assisted living. I don't know anything about the food; she didn't complain about it. Her room was lovely and very nice. My mother was in quarantine for two weeks once she got there because of Covid. They made her stay in her room. She only had about a week to be out of the room before she had the major stroke. I think they were opening up and I know they had activities, but she didn't get to any of them. It was a little less than a month that she's there, but it's very good. The staff members were phenomenal. My mother loved the nurses and the aides that came in. Even the housekeeping, she thought they were very helpful especially when she couldn't see. They helped her put her laundry away when it really wasn't their job. They knew she had limited vision, so they were very helpful. We only saw my mother's room. It was a room that could be accessed from outside, and that was the only reason we were allowed in to help her unpack. I did not see the facility. We weren't even allowed to go look around before she went in because it was in total lockdown. It was very expensive but it was constant care, so it was fine.

Provider Response

Janice, we're so glad that we were able to go above and beyond your expectations! Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything additional we can do for you.

I am always met by staff as helpful and happy. The one bedroom my dad has is very large and and doesn’t feel cramped and more like home. His head Nurse Michele is one in a million. Always positive and always keeps me informed and you know how much she cares. My dad loves 10:00 am daily socialization, mass and other activities.

I visited this facility

Langdon Place of Dover was lovely. The residents seemed very social and very nice. The rooms were clean and well kept. It just wasn't going to work for my sister-in-law. The staff was very well informed, and we learned a lot from her. The dining area looked very nice. The residents seemed to be enjoying what they were doing. My only problem was they have a fire drill once a month where the clients on the second and third floor have to walk downstairs, and she would be unable to do that.

Provider Response

Pat, thank you so much for the positive review!

I couldn't leave any comment until I chose a 4 star rating. When I went to pick a display name, it kept showing that the name had already been used for a comment. I'm a family member who transferred a family member into the rehab area. There is not enough staff and patients wait a long time to get a "call button" request answered. The staff is all very pleasant but not enough people to provide for patient needs. It's a great choice if you can have a family member there every day for awhile to help out with your loved one's care.

Langdon Place of Dover's atmosphere is very nice. They have a lot of facilities and they offer good medical care. The staff is very nice. They have a pool, a jacuzzi, a gym, a library, and they have full nursing care with their own machines, so if anyone needs an EKG or something like that they don’t have to send them off to the emergency room, which is a good thing.

I visited this facility

Everything at Langdon Place of Dover was designed to make people feel comfortable and feel at home, but we were not shown anything that equaled the care that my mom needs. The facilities and the activities were nice. They have a pool and a general area where people meet for games, crafts, or music. They offer transportation to various activities in the community. They have a weight room, gym room, physical activity room, hair salon, and physical therapy. Laundry services are not provided on-site, which was kind of a surprise to me. We only met with the director. They also showed us apartments where people could be pretty much independent.

Langdon Place was too large and had too many elevators that dad did not like it at all. The staff wasn’t available when you needed them, there weren’t many around, and I think they were understaffed. The dining room was large, the bedroom was small, and the hallways were very large and dark. It’s a gloomy place.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother-in-law is in Langdon Place. She and her son live there. It’s very nice; it’s clean. The residents seem happy. They have a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom, and living room accommodation which is very nice and very spacious. We had several lunches there, and the food was very good. The caretakers are very friendly and attentive. I think it’s a good facility for her. There are numerous things that are available to them. I know they had a Halloween party, and they’re going to have a Thanksgiving dinner. They have exercise and activities to challenge their minds. They also take them to local stores or businesses.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The Langdon Place of Dover is where I am now. It is a large place, I've got some friends here, and there are some good staff people, but I have to leave because of money. I can't live here forever because they don't accept Medicaid, and eventually I will need Medicaid. The food is good although some people think it could be better. I think it would be better if they knew more about Parkinson's. They do have activities like trivia where volunteers come in and ask questions, they have exercise classes, and they have a pool.

The staff in the solana are excellent with the alzheimers patients, of which my grandmother occasionally is. They are very accomodating with respite care for her about once every two months, as we are trying to slowly acclimate her to facility to make an easy transition. The staff all know her by name, and treat her like she is one of the family there and include her in everything they do. They also hold Alzheimers caregiver support groups once a month where people can come share about their experiences and give tips about what they find works well with handling the disease.
