I visited this facility
Good Old Days Home Care was our first choice, but we could not afford it. The rooms were really big. They were newly opened, and there were only two ladies living in the house at that time. They have two staff members 24 hours a day. Their owners were very caring, and they went above and beyond trying to help me find a place for my grandmother to go because we couldn't afford them, and they went and visited her in the rehab hospital that she was in. They are just phenomenal -- a very loving couple. It is a beautiful home.

My mom was in Good Old Days. We chose it because it was clean, it was small in number, and I liked the employees. They were all Filipino. They were very caring, very generous of heart, and did a good job and the best they could with my mom. There weren't a lot of programs. From what I could see by most of the patients that were there, I thought five or six at one time were in their last days. So, one was bedridden and really didn't make much contact. Several of them had dementia. So, there was a TV, and they could go outside in the backyard. I took my mom for a wheelchair ride around the block, but that's not what I called program where they do arts or anything because most of these people were past that point. I thought she was taken care of. They bathe her, which I could not get her to do. She had three meals a day, and they hand fed her because they could see that she wasn't going to eat on her own very well. They had her dressed and lifted her to and from the bathroom. They did a good job, I think and it was a hard job. Given all of that, I was grateful for their help. She had the biggest bedroom in the place, but it had three single beds in it. It wasn't really roomy, but they just slept there, and then they would get them up and they would come up to the living room. They had electric lift chairs that could lift them up or tilt them or do whatever they needed to do. They had walkers there if needed. They offered physical therapy, but my mom just wasn't open to that at that point. The other thing that I liked about Good Old Days was that it was owned by a German couple. He did the administrative financial stuff; she is a hospice nurse and she had worked at the intensive care hospitals. So, she had a nursing background, and although she wasn't there a lot, I saw her occasionally. I thought the place was clean, and the bathrooms were always clean. It was a nice place. I would say, for me, they were God sent. They were close to my home. They were open, and I could go there anytime. They took a real interest in working with me with her, and it was a good experience. I would like to spread the word for them because they were very good. If there was any place for her to have her last day other than at home, it was a good choice, and I don't regret it all.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
My father is in a residential care home called Good Old Days Home Care. It was the one that I found a couple of months ago. They just have six residents in there. I like that this facility is small and more on individual care. However, regarding accommodations, they just moved my dad to a different room because the room that he was in before had three people in it and my dad wanted a little privacy. So now, he is in a room with just one person. Overall, they're really trying to accommodate him and they're trying really hard to make him comfortable and happy. So right now, I have my fingers crossed that he will adjust there.
