I visited this facility

We toured Legacy House of Southern Hills. It was very clean and very up-to-date, so I think it's a pretty new facility. I like the roominess. Everything was nice and roomy. It reminded me of a very upper-class type of hotel, even though it's assisted living. It's very nice, very clean, very neat and orderly. I visited with the manager and ran across a couple of employees, and everybody seemed nice. I saw the activities that they do, and I thought those were adequate. They have activities. They have a bus that takes them to places and they go to the stores. It seems like they do what everybody else does for assisted living. The only thing I was disappointed in was that the larger rooms (the one-bedroom ones) were only upstairs. They didn't have the larger rooms downstairs, which was kind of a deterrent for one of my parents. For a single person, the regular one-bedroom was fine, but my folks would need the larger living quarters. The larger rooms were just over 100 square feet more but they happened to be upstairs, and my parents don't want a two-bedroom.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Dear Legacy, My father has been a resident at Legacy Memory Care for the past 3 years. Over that time I have watched the level of care get worse and worse. Especially this past year when Breigh took over. Three caregivers for 41 dementia patients is NOT ENOUGH! Patients are being neglected, you're burning out your caregivers and they are leaving, and your Med tech (who gives perscriptions) is so over-whelmed and upset that she's getting ready to walk out. This is really bad. I understand that state regulations require 1 caregiver for 6 residents, but you often-times have 1 caregiver to 12-13 residents. In the past, when caregivers didn't show up to work, the memory care manager would call a health-care agency and get temps to fill in. Now I find out that "we don't use temp agencies anymore". In the meantime, your residents are sitting around in soiled diapers because there's not enough staff to take care of them. When I brought my concerns up to management, I was told "we're properly staffed". I didn't ask about staff, I asked about caregivers! The bus driver is NOT a caregiver, the maintenance guy is NOT a caregiver, Dawn is no where to be seen. She's supposed to be Memory Care manager yet she hides out in an office somewhere. I'm at Legacy often and I've never met her, seen her, or talked to her. Legacy likes to count non-care staff as caregivers. It started in January when the rates went up. Then you decided to add a $30 processing fee onto the increased rates. Now you want direct access to the family's personal checking accounts so you and perform direct withdrawals (ACH) every month and if families want to continue writing a check you're going to charge $300 per month as a check processing fee!!!!!! Families - if you have a loved-one at Legacy House Southern Hills, keep a close eye on them. Finally, my complaints in this review are directed at MANAGEMENT! The caregivers are angels and are working their hardest to take care of the residents. They are kind, compassionate, and are doing their best. But management is so bad that they will probably suffer some type of retaliation from my review here. Time to file complaints with any and all local, state and federal agencies and anyone else who will listen.

I visited this facility

Legacy House of Southern Hills was very responsive and welcoming. They took extra care not only to show you their facility, which is beautiful, but also to truly explain their services and the cost. It was really important for Legacy House that not only the family was very happy with their decision, but also the individual living there. I would highly recommend a visit. It looked like a great choice to me. It was lovely and the people were lovely. I got to meet some of the residents. It was very, very nice. I wish my stepfather would have gone there. I think it would have been good for him, but he just couldn't do it. It's a very new facility, so it's very beautiful. The residents said that the food was very good. I saw craft rooms, and a movie was going on. Their calendar was well published. The facility itself is a five-star. It's clean. and it's very nice.

Mom is extremely happy after transitioning from independent living with dad for 70 years after his recent passing. Her apartment is a nice space to feel at home with things she is used to seeing around her. The facility itself is like a cruise ship on land. Three meals a day in a restaurant setting with plenty of open space and things to do and people to see. It's not simply an apartment building with old people and a buffet twice a day. The facility with its' wider hallways and every other detail was well planned with the residents safety, security and comfort mind.

I visited this facility

I toured Legacy House of Southern Hills. I like the area. I could leave the property and walk around the neighborhood, and I would feel completely safe. There's not much around there right now. It's at the far end southwest in the valley. There is not much construction of anything else out there. The apartment that they showed me was very small, but it had what I needed. It had a refrigerator in it, and it had some counter space where I could put a blender or something. The staff want you to come there and live, so they're very nice to you and show you all around. They have a theater room and a workout room. I really didn't get to hear about too many activities. This is a newer place. Everything was nice, clean, and kind of brand new. I still drive, and they have covered parking, which is a must for me. Some places don't have that, but they do have it there.

I visited this facility

The personnel at Legacy House of Southern Hills were really great during my visit. I spoke to one of the residents, and they were very pleased with the place. I toured the assisted living and the place is super clean, which I think was a big plus. It's pretty new; it looks like it's been built within the last five years. It's very up to date too. It has a theater and they've really gone the extra mile with it. They have a nice game room, and it was a very modern facility. They have doctors come in and things like that. I was impressed with it. We didn't see it personally, but they described the activities that were available. One of the things I was concerned about was during COVID my mother's been locked in a room for a year, and I want to get her out of her room. I was assured that they do make an effort to get the residents out of their rooms. They also have a gerontologist come in once every two weeks or so to check on the people. Since my mother doesn't have a physician, I thought this would be a good place to start having a doctor actually come to the place. Another good thing is that they have everything online. I can fill out all the paperwork and everything online, and I really like that. I don't have to go down there to drop off the paperwork and that kind of stuff. I can just do it all online, because there's considerable paperwork nowadays.

My mom was a temporary resident of Legacy House of Southern Hills (LGSH). After a couple of weeks, there was no doubt we had found the best new home for her! The facility is beautiful and very clean. However, it is the staff that sets LHSH apart from the others. Their genuine kindness to each and every resident goes up and beyond standard care. They have been very communicative with our family, which has been impairative during COVID. They helped our family during a difficult transition. We feel very blessed to have our mom at Legacy House of Southern Hills.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY HERE, particularly if they have Alzheimer’s or dementia. My brother and I put both of our parents at Legacy House of Southern Hills because we liked that it has assisted living and memory care to accommodate our parents’ unique needs (Mom is in assisted living and Dad is in memory care). Fast forward a few months and formal reports have been filed with the Department of Health & Human Services and Adult Protective Services with the support of the long term care ombudsman’s office. The problem begins and ends with the director, Barbara, who is grossly incompetent and uncompassionate. Everything I share next has been documented and is intended to make the public aware of the real danger here, while respecting my parents’ privacy. Dad started on the assisted living side and was settling in well, socializing with other residents, attending happy hour and going for walks. However, he wandered outside one day and we made the collective decision to move him to the memory care side. That’s when the care abruptly changed. There is little to no activity or social programming to speak of for memory care patients, so the stimulation and interaction ended for my dad. That’s when he started exhibiting understandable frustration and agitation. As a result, Dad had an “incident” and we got 3 different explanations of what happened. As with all incidents there, you’re lucky to be notified, let alone receive a clear story, and you’ll never see any documentation. At least that time they sent him to the hospital, but upon his return, there were two more undocumented incidents, one of which was a fall that resulted in a limp, but no one sent him to the ER to ensure he was OK. On the assisted living side, my mom also suffered a bad fall that resulted in injury, but we weren’t so much as notified, and they didn’t have transportation to bring her back from the hospital. My mother has also been dealing with a dangerous resident who lives across from her who threatened to kill my mom before trying to attack another resident. I asked Barbara when this would be addressed, but there’s still no plan. Speaking of plans, we tried meeting with Barbara to come up with a care plan for my dad to ease his restlessness, but she wasn’t interested in identifying activities and therapies that could benefit him. Instead, her answer to us, and a senior health advocate who joined the meeting, was for him to leave if we weren’t happy with the standard of care. Her idea of helping your loved one is to send them away if they’re not complacent drooling in front of a TV. I asked her for copies of their memory care activity calendar and received one for next month. When I asked for previous months’ copies, I received some scrappy Word docs dating back to April 27, 2020, which strengthened my suspicions that she’s creating these retroactively to cover herself. As we try to wait out the COVID pandemic, my dad has been left heavily medicated and neglected. My mother sent me a picture of him from one of her recent visits. (We had to fight for our mom’s right to see our dad, as a Legacy caregiver told my brother and I that Barbara had forbidden them from seeing each other.) The photo showed my once chipper father, slumped over in bed, shirtless, unshaven, in wrinkled and dirty sheets. Mom said he was nearly unresponsive and couldn’t even sit up to talk to me on the phone. He's basically naked because no one washes his clothes, even though that's included. Prior to moving my dad to Legacy, we had a private caregiver who was so wonderful that Legacy hired her. Needless to say, she’s been transferred from memory care, likely so she doesn’t see my dad’s drastic weight loss and rapid decline in cognitive functioning. My parents are everything to me. My dad was a 747/MD-11 airline check captain that could tell the best jokes in the world. Now he’s a shell of a man who cries when he hears your voice on the phone. I cry constantly about my parents being at that house of horrors and will stop at nothing to expose Barbara for the fraud she is.

We were sad to read your review. We are sorry you feel unhappy with the care your parents have received. Thank you for sharing your concerns with us both here and in person. We hope to continue to communicate with you and work closely together to best care for your parents.

Legacy House of Southern Hills was a very nice and brand-new community. The staff was very friendly and kind to my dad. Initially, it took a little bit of getting in the groove of needs with the staff learning his system and his needs. We had little hiccups along the way but they did a great job. They had all kinds of activities from bingo, puzzles, a theater room, outings every single week, there's a lot constantly going on in there. They would have people come in and sing and they'd have a happy hour. This community was head and shoulders above the others. We toured a lot of other places and there was no place that compares to it. The food was good, they had lots of variety. My dad didn't want to go on tour but when we went there he fell in love with it and immediately picked a room. You get what you pay for, for sure, this place is outstanding.

I visited this facility

Legacy House of Southern Hills was new and beautiful. We saw the assisted living and memory care facilities. It's two stories, and it has a staircase and an elevator. They showed me a room where my mom would be sleeping -- because she was going to do a respite stay -- but it was so small. The facility was wonderful, but the place was only 40% occupied. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable.

We were very impressed with Legacy House of Southern Hills. The staff we met was very helpful, we liked the rooms, and the entire facility was really well done. The rooms weren’t furnished, but the size was good. It’s bright, well-lit, and everything was clean and brand new.
