My sister is in Wilshire at Lakewood Rehab Center for long-term care. It's a nice facility, a little aged, but everyone's nice and accommodating. The staff is wonderful. Her room is just simple. It's fine, but the mattress isn't very good. The place just needs updating. She's pleased with the food and the dining area is nice. I would recommend them.

I visited this facility

Once the "cream of the crop", now the sludge at the bottom. New owners, out of New Jersey, have driven WIlshire into the ground. Understaffing every care giving department; Dietary is deficient, Nursing and Aides negligent, Activities all but discontinued and Maintenance denied. Janitorial is a joke; discusting bathrooms, dirty floors. Hallways unkempt, etc. All in the name of cutting the budget, while likely sending the monies collected back to corporate in New Jersey. BEWARE!

My dad moved into Wilshire at Lakewood. We're not satisfied with that place. I think they are understaffed and have a lot of agency help, especially on the weekends. They are not very responsive to what they initially told us that they would be doing, such as laundry, and changing bedding, they're just not filling all the needs that we thought we were going to get there. The facility is nice. He has been using lidocaine patches on his back, which are supposed to be changed every 12 hours, 12 hours on, and 12 hours off. And a couple of weeks ago we found out that the same patch had been left on his back for six days. There is a beauty shop for haircuts and all. I think they do have a kind of garden area.

I have never been treated so poorly by staff when trying to contact my Auntie May. An LPN I spoke with was unhelpful and rude. Ive always liked a facility, but this was uncalled for.

I had a family member at this facility and was impressed with the staff. My dad had been at another facility and they had no staff. Although this faciity was also short handed they tried so much harder to care for my dad.

I visited this facility

Wilshire at Lakewood was going to be my choice because I thought that was the only place my mom could go to. It was probably built in the 1990s or 1980s and the decor there is reminiscent of the time it was built, but it was very nice and clean. There is the self-pay side, and there is the Medicaid side. When we first walked in, nobody was there to greet us, so we naturally headed to the self-pay side, which was extremely lovely. They said, "Your mom will be on Medicaid," so we looked at that side, but there were two people to a bedroom, it was more crowded, and it wasn't decorated as lovely. Although it meets our needs, it needs to be updated.

My relative feels like she is being held hostage. The entire place is filled with Covid. I get an email every week and the number continues to increase beyond even a reasonable amount. Hospice cannot get in and no one answers the phone. My relative no longer understands how to answer the phone and you cannot get a nurse to answer either. I was told I could not go to the window either because I would scare the other person in the room. They let me relative fall so many times I could not move her. Then hospice showed up in the beginning and she never fell again. Now that she has Covid I can't move her again. This place is very expensive for no information and the management team is completely unresponsive! They give you the run around for asking any questions. I wouldn't let my dog stay here!

My brother was there over Christmas ‘19 for rehab after a hip replacement. Everything was clean and bright and decorated to the nines for the holidays. The only thing that bothered me was the carpeting in the rooms. They were stained and don’t know how often they are cleaned. The food for the most part was good, nurses were good most of the time, therapists were great. He really enjoyed his stay!

My family and I just had our aunt at Wilshire after a stay at the hospital with pneumonia and many other health issues. Hospice was called in and we knew she didn't have long. She was only there for 4 days before she passed, but we couldn't have been more pleased with the staff at Wilshire and the Hospice nurses. They were extremely attentive and kind to our many visitors who came to say goodbye to her. I know she wasn't there long, but we were very pleased with the staff and the facility and they seemed to be attentive to all of the other residents who were near our aunts room.

I am/was a resident of this facility

You have to go there every day to see they are taking care of your parent. Not timely answering call light -- sometimes 45 min one time 1 1/2 hrs. Not following diet, failing to follow instructions on giving medications. Not monitoring nor recording falls. Failing to clean hearing aids, not checking hearing aids and letting batteries go dead. Improper installation of hearing aids. Loosing hearing aids. Dropping hearing aids on floor and breaking them and then try to deny. -- We should be billing them for the amount of time we have to go over there.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My Mom was sent to the hospital for care and assessment for dementia, When she was discharged back to the Wilshire Carol the Admin met the medical transport at the door and refused to let my mother come back to her own apartment. She made her sit outside in 100 degree heat in the cab and would not even let her come into the lobby to sit in the air conditioning. I got a call from out of nowhere telling me that she wouldn't be readmitted and asking me to come pick her up and take her to my house. I have no facilities or 24 hour supervisory capability to care for her. The admissions person Sammy who called me tried to initially misrepresent what was going on until I stated I was calling a lawyer. Then all of a sudden things changed and the hospital she was just at will suddenly let her come back when Sammy tried to make it sound like it would not. That hospital filed elder abuse charges against the facility for leaving my mother outside in the heat. These people have no regard for the elderly to have done this to my Mom.

Wilshire at Lakewood is beautiful. It's a ranch, it's spread out, and it's very clean. The rehab side and long-term care side has large dining room. The ratio of CNAs to patient is too high. They dropped my mother three times. They gave somebody else's medication once and that put her into hospital. That's pretty much why their level of nursing care is horrible. The rehabilitation is good. The nursing care on the rehab side is good. When you move over into long-term care, then it becomes terrible.

During my visit the assisted living staff where nice and helpful. The place was clean and kept up. There where activities for the residents to partake in if they choose to do so. One of the activities they had on the day we had visited was a trick or treat for the kids of the families where the kids were allowed to trick or treat at the doors of the residents that chose to participate. The rooms on the other hand were small and were shared with a roommate. It was not easy to find the location of the facility at all. In the back of the facility they have a nice pond/sitting area. Aside from the small rooms it was a very pleasant experience and I would go back to visit.
