I visited this facility

Spring River Christian Village is an excellent community. They had a good choice of different apartment sizes and locations, and it seemed very clean and very comfortable. They've got very attentive staff. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who's looking for assisted living facilities. The dining area was very convenient and comfortable, bright and cheerful. The staff seemed very attentive to the resident's needs, and the food was very good. The only reason we didn't take it is because my daughter wanted to stay in her own home and we were able to get additional homecare for her. The staff was outstanding, very accommodating, and spent time showing us the facility and the options for different units.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was a resident of Spring River Christian Village. It was more of a nursing home-type environment, mainly because he had 24-7 skilled nursing. I loved the staff; they were very attentive. The social workers there were also very good. They were on top of their job and assisted people with all kinds of paperwork and things like that. They were very on time with taking care of my dad. If he called, they got there very quickly, so that he was able to get to the bathroom. They also were very good about feeding them right on time. I had no complaints regarding that. They also had therapy right there. The only difficulty he ever had, and this was not the facility's fault, was that because of his insurance, they would approve three therapy sessions at a time. They had to go back in and try to request more. The facility itself was very good. He was able to even go to church every Sunday, and he was able to participate even. He sang at some of the services, so that was very good for him. He wasn't shut in a room and not allowed to do that kind of thing. The rooms are pretty roomy. Most of the time, he was by himself. Towards the end, probably the last two weeks, he did have a roommate, which was not a problem with him at all. My dad's a very social person anyway, but a lot of the time he was in a room by himself. The room that he had at the beginning was nicer than the one he had towards the end, just because he had to start paying a full price per day, which was pretty rough. The facilities were very clean and very pretty. The windows were bay windows so that they could look out and see quite a pretty area where it's located. There was a wooded area behind them, so that was nice. You didn't just look out and see a wall. They didn't have a lot of activities, mainly because a lot of these people were in rehab. Some of them could not be at or go to certain things, but the front hall of the area when you first come in, was very pretty. They even had a fishpond, a TV, and a living room setting. They had a dining area which my dad very rarely was able to go to, mainly because of mobility. But they had a very nice dining room for the rehab people, and I was very impressed with that. For the church service, he was able to be wheeled in a wheelchair. He was able to go to that, so he went every Sunday and enjoyed being able to be part of those services because some of the facilities don't offer things like that. That was a really good plus. My dad was not crazy about the food. At first, it didn't seem to bother him as much, but then he got a specific diet, and it was hard on him. The food was not agreeing with him. He was having a hard time with heartburn and things like that. He's also got high blood pressure, and a lot of the food was very salty. So, that was an issue with him, but I think that would be my only complaint. They're a little pricey. I think if you had the right insurance or something, then it probably could be affordable, but it was kind of pricey.

My mom was at Spring River Christian Village. The staff was really good with her but they were understaffed too, which probably every nursing home is. They took care of her really, really well. As far as the care goes, they did a really good job. The facility was really nice and really clean. There wasn't any trash you were looking at. The food was also great. She didn't eat any of it, but they really had good meals. The room where she stayed at was really nice.

My mom is in Spring River Christian Village. They seem to have done a really good job with her. The staff is very good. Her apartment is really nice; she likes it. They have different activities, but right now they're not doing anything because they are still following the rules with COVID. They are staying in their rooms. I haven't been able to walk around in the facility. It was under lockdown when my mom went in, so I haven't really gotten to look at it. I have gone into her room, and the layout is really nice. She has her own little room, and she has her furniture in there. She has a big bedroom, two six-foot closets, and a nice bathroom with a nice tub. She feels comfortable showering herself. She is a very picky eater. It is not the best, it is not a five-star hotel, but they have a lot of different food to cook for the people in their care. The facility is very clean and very nice.

People, nurses are friendly. Facility is clean. But we had to stay on top of our Mothers care. It seemed that we were informing them on how Mom was doing instead of them telling us. We told them Mom was dehydrated, we had to call the Doctor. Moms in the hospital tonight because of a bacterial infection that runs rapid threw there facility. Not Happy!

AWFUL!!! My rating 0. It doesn't deserve even a half of a star. Mother was neglected. They would not follow doctors orders. Would not listen to my mother. Would not listen to me. I had to be there on a daily basis to make sure she was being cared for. Why pay for them to care for her when I had to be there daily. She ended up in hospital with pneumonia, pressure sores, and infection so bad in her skin fold that when you raised her belly the smell and heat that you could feel from it. I could go on with all the things we had to deal with. She was on skilled and assisted side of facility and they both were AWFUL!

I went to several ALF and was disgusted with what I saw until I went into Christian Village. My husband is a resident at this facility. With the Christian Village -- even though it was the most expensive one -- they actually have a chaplain training there. It has a full basement for emergencies for tornadoes, and they actually have a chapel down there where they have the church services. They have a huge dining room that will seat 200 people. I had meal there, and it was tasty. They have a full salad bar. My husband has a little separate room like a studio with a bathroom. The facility doesn't smell. It is very clean. There is no comparison. There is a beautiful reception room, and people are sitting around chatting and laughing.

I have been in and out of the rehab area and assisted living. Very unorganized. They try to blame their lack of care on anything but their own fault. Do not ever leave someone there without checking on them on a regular basis. In the rehab department after a person was admitted there after suffering a brain hemorrhage, was found none responsive to touch and voice. After removing the covers they were found to have soiled their self to their knees. I would think this would be difficult to do while laying flat of your back. Also noticed sores on one of her legs. When the nurse was asked about this she said: sores what sores. My self and another aid went back to her room to wait for the nurse to look at her leg and condition. When she walked in she lifted the leg with the sores and turned it from side to side and said what sores and before I could say anything the aid said right there on her leg. They were not hard to see. We also noticed that when she lifted her leg the backside of her leg remained flat from laying on the bed as if she had not been turned for hours. I could go on and on with the issues that have taken place. I seen them with her and with other room mates and other people in this facility.

I visited this facility

Spring River Christian village is a great place for senior citizens. I originally went there to visit a friend but have since been back a few times to volunteer. The staff is super nice but, I may be a little biased because I have friends who work their and they have great amenaties and the place is very spacious. The facility is also very clean, I visited in the rooms with some of the residents and the rooms seemed clean as well as the kitchen and the outdoor areas. The best thing about it is that the people I volunteered to work with were all very nice and they all seemed very happy to see me. The residents also seemed to enjoy living at Spring River Chistian Village. I would definetly recommend it to anyone looking for a retirement community thats friendly and well kept with lots of amenities and great food.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My first visit to Spring River Christian Village was with a friend who was going to visit her grandfather. The staff was very friendly even though the facility seemed to be quite busy as we had shown up around lunch time. Her grandfather's room was very clean as was the rest of what I saw of the facility. The food smelled good but we brought food in to eat that day. After lunch I read on a flyer they were looking for volunteers to play games, have a coffee, chat, etc. with the residents of the facility. I decided before we left that day I would return and volunteer as I wans't working much at the time anyway. In the months following I made it back at least three times a month to visit with my friends grandfather and numerous other residents. During the time I spent there I noticed the residents were offered varying amenities as well as activities inside and out of the facility. Spring River Christian Village is now the place I mention to my grandparents who are also local Joplin residents when they talk about assisted living scenarios for their future. All in all I give the place a 9/10. After finally eating the food their a few times I feel the chef could put a little more effort in somedays. This is the only reason I can't give it a 10 out of 10.

I visited this facility

I visited this facility on several occasions as a durable medical equipment service technician. I was impressed by the overall quality of the facility. Most of the staff seemed friendly and willing to help. The rooms seemed well-appointed, and there was always someone nearby to ask for help. Also, the food always looked fresh and of good quality. As far as long-term care facilities are concerned, it's one of the best available in the Joplin area. However, I have heard horror stories, and I have seen the neglect first-hand. One day, I was servicing some equipment, and I heard a patient yelling for help for almost half an hour. She needed to use the restroom, so I told one of the staff members. The staff member ignored both the patient and me. I also heard stories and saw bruises from patients being dropped on their heads at this facility. One thing I know for certain: I will never allow a family member to be admitted into this or any other long-term care facility.

I visited this facility

I visited the Spring River Christian Village on numerous occasions over this past summer to do volunteer work. The facility in general seemed clean in some places, and not so much in others. As well I witnessed several of the residents in the short-term or end of life unit, eemed to be all but abandoned some days. I have been to many many other facilities where this is not the kind of treatment they recieve. They are not overlooked and parked in a corner half of the day. They did seem to be well fed, but not as well fed as the one in other units who have the aility to get up and do things for themselves. Spring River is a great place to volunteer but I would never put my family members here. They are in need of much improvement in too many areas.
