All Residents at Barathaven have some type of dementia at different levels. Residents' ages range from 62 through 98, with the average age 73. Favorite things to do at Barathaven are bingo, scenic drives, exercise circle, and Fast Food Fridays.

We offer psychological, cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual nurturing through our SPARK programming. In SPARK, we capitalize on each individual resident's strengths to assign social roles within our Community giving purpose to each resident's daily life.

Our Executive Chef makes 93-95% of all meals from scratch - generating appetite stimulation naturally rather than relying on medicinal means. Generous portioned home cooked meals and recipes are standard for our menus as well as "always available" items.

All doors are secured with entry and exit codes for staff only. Barathaven has a gated and coded exterior yard, secured outdoor courtyard, and video monitored entrance in lobby. All apartments have motion sensors in them that can be adjusted for sensitivity for those at risk of falls. Some apartments purposefully do not have showers in them to avoid unnecessary fall risks for some residents who are at great fall risk.

Barathaven uses emailing, phone calls, recorded messages via Voice Friend, texting, and posts on our website and Social Media to communicate with families.

Daytime Staff to Resident Ratio is 1:6 and Nighttime is 1:10.

Reminiscence activities are a part of our every day programming. We offer 7-8 activities a day to keep our residents challenged in areas of psychological, cognitive, emotional, social, physical and spiritual well being.

Barathaven's nursing staff assess for changes in condition daily for all of our residents. Our Health Services Director assesses all residents' health and cognitive functioning upon admission, semi-annually, and when a change in condition is identified by nursing staff.

Barathaven relies on stimulation of appetite naturally through the home-cooked meal aromas filling the halls from the kitchen. We present all meals on vibrantly colored dishware to encourage our residents for targeted scooping with utensils and to assist with visually impaired individuals.

Barathaven holds semi-annual care plans with Power of Attorneys for all residents with our Health Services Director. In addition, when changes of condition are identified by nursing, the family is made aware via phone calls.

About Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center
Barathaven Alzheimer's Special Care Center is a secure Assisted Living Community solely dedicated to Memory Care. Our Signature SPARK Montessori-style programming, designed specifically for people with dementia, is offered multiple times daily and all residents are encouraged to participate to give purpose to our residents’ lives. All that we do at Barathaven revolves around each of our residents' unique stories. Socialization opportunities are generated daily with cognitive reminiscence of times past. We offer all-inclusive pricing without any level of care fees. Each apartment comes furnished with a full-sized bed, nightstand, and lamp. There are three meals and snacks daily as created by our Executive Chef. Highly trained staff meet our residents where they are in their disease process, keeping as close to their prior routines as possible, and involving them in favored activities, such as gardening, music, walking club, or crafting.

All apartments have a motion sensor that can be scheduled on 24/7 and adjusted for sensitivity reducing fall risk. Never ending wandering path surrounding an outdoor courtyard with open access for our residents.
