I had an in-person tour of Brookdale West County. I like the overall presentation. I had the opportunity to see the activities, the residents, and the rooms. It was very nice and plush. I feel like it's something my mother is going to like. I liked everything about it. It was a good feeling. The minute I walked in, I was like, "Wow, I like this place." I can't think of anything I didn't like. I only spent time with the sales and marketing person, and she was amazing. All the staff looked very efficient. I heard the residents making comments about how good the food was. I looked at the menus, and I love the way they have them set up and the options. So I'm confident the food is good as well. The dining area has a lot of tables. It was very welcoming and had a nice set-up. They have a separate area where, if you want to, you could have ten family members come join you for dinner. I also like the fact that on one end of the dining room, you can actually go out on the patio, and there's a lake there.

The only one I really thought would be the better place for my husband would be Brookdale West County. It was not as expensive as the others. Depending on the care that my husband would need, that raises the price. They had a library, a game room, and a computer room. Most of them, I think you would have to furnish yourself, and the rooms were spacious enough. They were delightful people. When I was there, it was later in the afternoon, and everyone was engaged that I could see out of their apartment. They were playing bingo. Nobody was just sitting around in a hallway or any of that. The person that took us around told me that you could have your meals in your room, but they encouraged everyone to come and eat. He said that one of the things that they would do is to find out things about their residents and then match them up at dinner time with like-minded people. That impressed me. They said that some people did have pets, but the criterion was that they couldn't be over 30 pounds. We did talk about the fact that my husband would be on a renal diet, and there was no question about that. I think they would have taken him to dialysis once, and they would help him in the car. So I wouldn't have to be handling that. It was a good thing. The staff was friendly for sure. This gentleman at Brookdale said they all know each other's job, and so they can all do each other's job.

Brookdale West County was great. The staff was interactive with the residents. They're now having communion and mass there, and they have activities too. They have a lot of variety of foods. They have ordering off menu, and that was something I was looking for. They have good food. They have visitation, and they have Catholic masses. They would paint the room for you with the colors that you wanted, and I like that. They were one of the few that would paint the room for you.

Our second choice for my father-in-law would be Brookdale West County, but it is beyond his budget, and it costs more. It is new, it's really pretty, and they have friendly staff, too. It is also small, and we like that about it. It's a good location, and there are a lot of places around. It's also very well kept, clean, and well maintained.

Brookdale West County was excellent; more than I thought it would be. Everything was very outstanding and the tour was wonderful. Everything was perfect there. I looked at one specific apartment and it was very clean, light, and bright. It had all the necessary safety features that my husband would need. The price was exactly where I thought it would be. The staff member during the tour was excellent. It was everything I hoped it would be for him.

Brookdale West County is a wonderful and newer community. They have a pond right behind the place where residents can sit and look out. It's a nice setting. The person who did the tour spent a lot of time asking what my mom likes to do. They had very individualized activities and took many trips to lots of places. They also had beautiful dining areas with menu-style dining. They had memory care and dementia care with separate activities. They had a base rate, and then they charge for what type of care that you need. I was introduced to all the staff members we walked by, and everyone was very friendly. It's a fantastic community.

I visited the facility and got the particulars. Erin, the manager, invited my mom, my brother, and me to visit the facility, and eat lunch there. My mom really liked the place, and her initial comment was it looked like a nice hotel. The food was very good, and I think that was one of the selling points. They bent over backwards to make mom's move and her settling in go well. She moved in Dec. 14th and is receiving excellent care. I like the fact that doctors come to her to meet her needs. The nurses and therapists are providing daily care to help my mom feel better. I would recommend this facility to anyone. Their care is wonderful, and they keep me informed as to all the procedures and care she is receiving.

My mom moved to Solana West County. I chose it because I like the facility, and it is nice. The staff seems good, and everything is pretty good. The food was good, and the rooms are gorgeous. They are huge and much roomier than what she had in the other facility. I like the bathroom set up. The actual reason I moved her is because of the room. It is great. They have activities like singing. They take her to church on Sundays, and they have socials where they eat a lot. She is almost never in her room. They keep her busy. I like the hallways. They are bigger and have more room to get wheelchairs and walkers down. They had a walkout area, and she can walk around in the trees and sit. I like that they have a park atmosphere.

The staff at The Solana has been very helpful. They were very helpful with my mom moving in from one facility to the other and as far as giving her medications, that has been a great improvement from where she was before. I'm just comfortable that she is getting the care that she needs. The facility always looks very clean. My mother seems to like the food. They have a chef who does cooking demonstration and she enjoys those. At The Solana, their front door area is staffed 24 hours a day, so there is not a concern if she gets out and gets there after the doors are locked. She just pushes the intercom or whatever and she is immediately into the building. That was just a lot better than the other facility. Also, they have a nurse on every floor and one that is there 24 hours a day as well.

This is the best Assisted Care/Memory Care facility we have seen. It is by no means perfect, but it IS the best we have seen in the St. Louis area - and I am not just referring to it's "new facility appearance". I have read the other reviews, and would say that 'yes', there are days and items that can be improved-on. The 'list' for the seven other assisted living facilities we looked at was much longer, believe me. In the past 3 months, we have found the staff to be the key to a warm, caring, healthy environment! Contrary to most other locations, they have ALOT of help available at all times of the day and night (I have been there at all hours), and just as important, they have PLENTY of activities available daily - very important in the memory care business. My mother has improved, physically and mentally, 100% since she has been at Solana. So I am (obviously) a strong supporter of their program, and highly recommend it.

We visited The Solana and it was a beautiful facility. The manager that met with us was terrific. He was very helpful and spent a lot of time with us. The assisted living and the memory care that they had was terrific. It was very secured, very new and very nicely planned. If you had a senior that's very functional but could no longer maintain a house on their own or didn't want to, this would be a beautiful and terrific facility. They had a lot to offer. Though it was not inexpensive, it was affordable and of good value for what it offered. I was very confident in their ability and they had an ala carte pricing which really meant you pay for the services you used. There was a charge for the room and board and then you add on just the services that you needed. I thought that was a very fair way of doing things that if you needed more services, then you had to pay more because you took up more time of the caregivers. However, my grandfather is 96 and he was a significant fall risk. The facility wasn't really designed as a skilled nursing home or for people that were such in an advanced age like my grandfather. There was just too many patients per caregiver and had a higher fall risk. They couldn't give the one-on-one care that may grandfather needed. If somebody was younger with Alzheimer's, dementia an memory loss, but had much physical function, it would be different. They really don't have the mobile assistance that he needed and his dementia and Alzheimer's were so severe that he doesn't know how to ask for help and call for assistance.

I like Solana alot. It is great! It is certainly in my top 3 so far. Unfortunately it doesn't have as many options as other facilities. It only has assisted living. My parents right now might not need that level of care. In terms of activities, they did have the typical things that you get at most places like this. They have trips, clubs, etc. They have an entire menu basically that residents could look at for activities. I don't know how they could do all those things that they have available for them. The staff was fantastic. The person who showed me around was just phenomenal. She knew every single resident we ran into and that's impressive! It was reassuring in my opinion actually.

My mother has been at this community for 4 months. I have had more problems than I can possibly describe here, but within 3 weeks of her arrival she had lost 10 lbs and been hospitalized for dehydration. They do not have a electonic medical record and therefore do not record the TIMES medication has been given. The administrator has REFUSED to follow her physicians written order. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER. I am sorry I did. Looks pretty, but looks are deceiving.

We visited The Solana and the facility looks brand new. The place is very pretty and seems very nice. They have a very nice dining room, but they have very small rooms. They should make their rooms bigger.

The Solana West County was very beautiful and it was in the middle of a shopping area, but they still had some ground around. The cafeteria was beautiful and the rooms were nicely decorated. The staff were helpful and the residents could have their family over. The residents could also do some gardening, painting or use their fitness center. I would recommend this resort-like facility to others.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My parents entered The Solana West County in July 2012. It is clean, food is good and care is great. After my mother passed they reevaluated my father and they informed us he did not need to be on the Alzheimer's side but he would fit in the Assisted living side. The care of both my parents has been excellent and the staff knows all their tenants by first name and talk to them all the time. As with any kind of facility there is going to be certain issues that you will not like. Mine is the communication. In the beginning I had a hard time getting anyone to call me back from any voice mail message I would leave. It seems to be getting better. Over all I am very pleased.

The Solana West is a brand new facility. The staff was very receptive and very engaging, but as it was newer, we were not certain if they had everything figured out yet. They only had a few people out there and we felt that it would not be the right fit for my mother in law because she takes a little bit more attention. One of the things that they did not have was step-down skilled nursing. They were independent and assisted, but they did not have the full spectrum. As a facility, it was a wonderful property.

The Solana West was gorgeous. The rooms, the staff are very, very nice. There was nothing I would have disliked about it at all. It's brand new, so everything is very nicely decorated, pretty, and clean. Everybody seems wonderful. I would recommend them to others.
