I visited this facility

We toured The Commons on Marice. The people are very pleasant. The facility is interesting. It has decent carpeting. What we didn't like about it was that it was mixed with independent living with assisted living, so it smelled bad. The views from the rooms were not very impressive. One of them was overlooking a heating duct. All the bathrooms were in the bedrooms, and I wasn't really big on that. The common areas were very pretty.

My dad lived at The Commons on Marice for about 3 years. He was very happy there until the end. He was familiar with everybody and worked out to be the best for him at that time, not knowing exactly how long he would be needing assisted living. It was a beautiful place. Everybody was caring and he was happy there. They took great care of him towards the end. He moved from a one-bedroom independent into the studio type of assisted living room on a different floor where assisted living was. The staff was really good. They were very friendly and very helpful. They had a lot of musical performances on their stage. They had weekly malt days where you go down and get yourself a malt, and entertainment and cocktail hours every week. They had movie days. They had veteran affairs meetings and church services. There were quite a few different activities he could be involved in if he wished to be. They also had a nice big library.

I visited this facility

We went to The Commons on Marice. The general area was absolutely gorgeous and very, very pretty. The hallways, the carpeting, and everything were beautiful in the common areas. We saw one or two apartments, but they needed to be updated. The microwaves sat on the counter, they weren't installed, and there was very little counter space. There was no underground parking. The person who showed us around wasn't even aware of how much parking they had, and the cars were all parked in the street. The apartments really needed some updating, which he said had begun to be done, but we did not see those. I would give them a 2 only because of not having parking near the building, and you have to go out to the street. The apartments were extremely old, and they didn't have washers and dryers in the apartments. You share them on one floor. The staff who toured us around was very kind, but he didn't know the answers to a lot of our questions. I saw that he wrote them down, but he never got back to us with the answers to those questions. He was in training, and he made that clear in the beginning. They had a beautiful courtyard in the middle of the whole thing. It looked like the building just circled the whole courtyard. There were flowers and trees in the courtyard, and it was beautiful. There was a waterfall when you came in, and it seemed to me there were fish in that little pond indoors. It was beautiful.

We liked the apartments at The Commons on Marice. We saw two of them, one on the upper floor (for those who don't need any care), and the other one was on the bottom floor (that was more if you needed extra care). They were really simple, but the decorations were kind of old-fashioned. I didn't like it. I'm more into modern stuff, but my parents would've loved that style. They had a hair salon (that wasn't open at the time) and a very small workout area. We talked to Paul and he was nice. The only issue I had with them was the billing. Everything was a la carte then it got confusing. Another one was that parking was non-existent at the time of our visit. We had to park on the street and walk up to the building.

I visited this facility

The Commons on Marice was very opulent, and it was a place that when I'm ready to move, I would move there for independent living. It was very nice and it was something that even I, who don't need any services, would be content living there. It was older and the reason we went to look at that was because I have a friend who has had his mother and his aunt and a friend there already, and was just so impressed with their care that he thought I should see, and I agreed. It was great, but it would've been about $1,000 a month more than what we're paying at the other place. It was very well appointed and it just was very nice. The staff was very accommodating and very helpful, and tried to make it work for us as far as they could. They were very kind and answered all our questions. They met with us a number of times, and they were willing to meet with us and talk some more. They sent a meal home with us so we could sample it. They sent lasagna dinner for two home, a bottle of wine, garlic bread, and tiramisu dessert, and I thought that was a real nice touch. It was delicious. They had a quaint little bar area, which was a nice place to just go and talk and sit, because it gave you the feeling that you have gone out to someplace special. Their gathering areas were very garden-like and also made you feel like you were actually going someplace.

I went to The Commons on Marice. I like that they have a wide variety of services both for independent living and assisted living. It's very upscale, with new furnishings, new wall coverings, and flooring. Very, very nice, beautiful, beautiful campus. And the thing I'd probably like the least would be that the amount of services that you can take a la carte before going to an assisted living status is kind of limited. They were very knowledgeable, offered me things to think about that had not occurred to me yet.

I visited this facility

The Commons on Marice was a nice place, but it was too big. I wanted my mother to be in a place where she got more individual care. She's 99, and she still walks, so I wanted somewhere that people were still ambulatory. It was clean, but it was more like an institutional-style building. The staff was good and nice. The caliber of people, most of whom were in wheelchairs. I know they have a library and a place where they could do different stuff.

I visited this facility

The people at Commons on Marice were very nice, and the facility was nice, but it wasn't what we wanted. It's a month-to-month rental and we weren't quite looking for that. The person who took us around was very nice. I have no complaints. The apartments were nice, but they didn't meet our needs. They were a little bit too small for us. The place looked fine. The staff during the tour did an excellent job. We did not spend much time there. When we discovered that their largest units were smaller than what we wanted, I didn't explore them more carefully.

I visited this facility

We went to The Commons on Marice. We visited both assisted living and independent living, because at the time we weren't sure where my mother was going to go. Anyhow, that was a very nice facility. The staff was great there also. There was nothing we really didn't like, it was just the fact that we had to drive like 40 minutes to get there, and that was really it. What I saw was all excellent. The layout for the rooms and everything were great.

My dad moved in to The Commons on Marice. The facility is very clean, everyone there is very nice and helpful, and so far he likes it there. The staff is very good, and they keep me informed on everything. He has a studio apartment. It's on the first floor, which is nice because he has difficulty walking. It has French doors so he can go out onto a nice patio, so on upcoming warm days he can sit outside and watch the birds. They have doctor services, physical therapy, a gym, a beauty salon, a dining room, and a library. When I go in, I check in at the front desk, and there's somebody there all the time -- or at least that's what they said. It's no problem getting in. They've given my husband and me each a key to his apartment at our request. They've been nothing but helpful, and for any questions I have they get back to me right away. Everybody has been very friendly and helpful. It's an old building, but it's kept up really well; they told me it's twenty years old, but it doesn't look like it. They've maintained everything well. They have activities, but it's limited right now because of COVID. All of these places are costly, but they've been nothing but good to us there.

The Commons on Marice was wonderful. It was beautiful, I love where it's located, and I thought it was very neat and clean inside. I thought they were very professional. The director was excellent, and the person at the reception desk was wonderful. I was very pleased with the whole thing. The façade was very appealing and very inviting. I was very impressed when I got there. Most of these places are on a highway or in a bad area, but this one was tucked away, and there were woods around it. I really loved it.

I visited this facility

The Commons on Marice is very nice and the people were great, but it seemed a little busy and big for us in terms of the amount of people. The rooms were nice; we saw an average-sized one-bedroom. There were lots of activities in the community. We went to the dining room, and it seemed like there were a lot of people there, which is something we're not looking for.

We really liked the Commons on Marice, and that's where my father will move. It's beautiful inside and out, it's very well-kept, and the staff member that we talked to was very nice. We also talked to a resident that has lived there for 20 years, and that was interesting. They have a veterans club that meets once a month. The dining area is restaurant style, and they have two or three choices a day for each meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). The room my dad is going to have is on the first floor, and it has a very nice patio with a screen door into his studio apartment. There's a fan on the ceiling, he can adjust the temperature of his room, and the bathroom has a shower. There are activities up on the second floor and they are printed up on the calendar for the residents. There's a room with a couple of pieces of exercise equipment.

The first couple years I visited my aunt and uncle I was incredibly impressed. This was an amazing place, the staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant folks were incredible and long-term. The restaurant is a place to visit and listen and the conversations around the tables were pleasant, the interaction with staff was wonderful and fun. A couple years ago I arrived around 10:30 at night after the doors were locked and waited out in the entry way with the ambulance crew that were trying to get someone to open the door to let them in. After about 15 minutes someone showed up. As an EMT and attorney, this was an incredible experience and the person that opened the door did not show much concern. Since then the impressiveness has definitely gone down hill. In December when I was there most notable was the decline in restaurant staff, the old cred were mostly gone, the new folks were rude to the residents, grumbly and mostly concerned about themselves than providing good service. What was most notable was the conversations around the tables. The residents were incredibly unhappy, were palpably aware of the decline in both quality of food and staff and increase in price. There are still great staff there, amongst the others, but there is not enough oversight and concern for the residents.

went to visit my dad and upon walking to the front door I found a woman who had walked away from memory care. That area is supposed to be secure.. It is winter out and she was outside with out a jacket. When i brought her inside all they were concerned about was who found her. Between a lack of security and the interference in my personal life is the deciding factor for me to move my dad.

We had a horrifying experience in their memory care. Our loved one was badly neglected - sometimes left sitting in the same chair she was placed in early morning and we have photos of the frequency that her clothing was soiled. Additionally she was handled so roughly we also took photographs - their response was not one of love and compassion but instead was to blame her - well, she was not able to ambulate on her own she required 100% assistance. While they show a wonderful food service menu most foods were frozen prepared. The community is beautiful - but it is apparent that this is their primary investment. I have friends who have had loved ones in the independent community who as long as were able to advocate for self - enjoyed their stay there. They have earned awards for activities - which should simply not be allowed - if the care is not at the top of their game they should not qualify for any other award opportunity.

I highly recommend the Commons. My dad lived their for seven month in 2013-14. The staff is very skilled, cheerful, and friendly. The other residents are welcoming. My father loved the food. There are plenty of organized activities, and the facility's open spaces are really nice.

I'm giving this facility 5 stars not only because of the wonderful amenities and staff, but because my grandmother is so deliriously happy living there. After living in a large, single family home for over 50 years, she moved into The Commons on Marice about 3-4 years ago. Every time I visit, I'm so impressed by the building and its amenities. The lobby area hosts a large dining hall, a library, ice cream parlor, billiards room, an atrium filled with plants, a beauty salon, fitness room, and so on. The common areas are always spotlessly clean and well manicured. Her apartment is incredibly spacious, though I think she has a studio and 1-bedroom combined. Though the bathrooms and kitchen are nothing special (no updated fixtures or finishes), they are modern, clean, and very functional. Her apartment gets lots of light, and the carpet is in good condition. Every person I've encountered at the front desk, serving in the dining area, or helping around the facility has been polite, helpful, and always addresses my grandmother by name. I'm also impressed by the activities and programming that have helped her to build a community of friends -- church services, music concerts, fitness classes, etc. I'm sure there are facilities that are even more luxurious and well-appointed than Marice, but I really can't imagine a more perfect living situation for my grandmother.

We were looking for an area near where my mother lived which is also near her friends and family. The commons was a good choice. This facility has a lot to offer. They have a library and they have a spiritual room. As for food, they have 2 meals a day and it's restaurant style. She doesn't have to go eat at any particular time. She can just go down and order whatever she wants to eat from the restaurant. I like their spiritual center which is very important for my Mother. It's really important to her. They have activities there too and transportation is available if they need to go to a store or go to the doctor. She is happy that she is able to get the physical therapy that she needs inside the facility. Her room is nice. Personally, I would want it bigger but since she is on a walker, the place is very well laid out for her. She even have a small kitchen inside her room. I like that they have daily wall check and they have full-time nurses on-site. She has a GPS pendant that she wears all the time and if ever she is in trouble she can just hit that button and they will know where she's at and they can help her immediately.
