Brookdale Eagan

We chose Brookdale Eagan for the size of the community. It's a very small memory care-only community. That means all their staff are trained in dementia and memory care services. We like that a lot. All the staff there were so loving and so attentive to all residents when we visited. During the move-in, they were so helpful, above and beyond whatever we needed, and very friendly. And then once my mom moved in there, she can't say enough things about how nice everybody is. It was wonderful. They're working so hard to get the transition to happen smoothly. She has been a little rough with it, but they've been nothing but loving, kind, and patient with her. They have activities. They would do chair exercises, arm weights, and stretching, and they played bingo. There is also a memory recall game that they do but I don't know the name of it. They have a salon. My mom got her hair done already, and we're very, very happy with how she looked when she was done. They have a workout room, too. They have activities there that are specific to dementia care, which is interesting to see. They also have a room called a Solace Room that has three different programs that can help soothe somebody when they're having sundowning issues. It's a very beautiful, calming-looking room. They have a TV there where they can put videos of anything they like, like nature, cats or babies, and anything to help them if they're having trouble sleeping or if they're just having a rough night.

Brookdale Eagan is a very nice facility. It's quite large, which was not appealing to us, but it was very clean, and they were friendly. The people were very nice, everybody seemed helpful. It just was too large for our needs. The room seemed adequately sized, and there was a refrigerator in there. The bathroom had no shower, so there was a separate shower facility. They had activities that they would do. The staff who gave us the tour said they had a barbershop salon. We had decided that it probably wasn't going to be a good fit because of the size; I was more focused on keeping my father-in-law from getting quite overwhelmed by the number of people. We saw the dining area, it felt very cafeteria-like to us, but again, with the size of the facility, that was a necessity. It was just large, and I felt it was super loud. The staff were very nice, very helpful, and very encouraging, for us to keep looking if this isn't the right place.

I was not happy with Brookdale Eagan. They're a little disorganized, but that wasn't anybody's fault because I understand that the lady that was showing us around was new to it. She had transferred from someplace else. Her keys didn't work in the doors. It's completely a memory care facility. They didn't have kitchens, and they didn't have a shower in the rooms. They would have to go down the hall to get showers. Every place else we looked at had a shower right in the room, so that the patient wouldn't have to be transported to another area to shower. I didn't like that. It seemed older. It was nowhere near as nice as the other place, and it was about the same price. They were kind enough and nice enough. The security was what you would expect. Somebody has to let you in or out and everything was very secure. You had to sign in and wear a mask and take your temperature. They work very carefully. It was very clean, but it was dark. The amenities didn't meet the level of the other places. They had a little gathering area but it was on mismatched furniture. They had another little area with tables and stuff where you could have a family gathering, but it seemed very mismatched. The only thing I liked about it was they had a little porch area where their residents could garden if they wanted to, and I thought that was a nice touch.

My wife moved into Brookdale Eagan. Overall experience is very good, I am impressed. I like that it's strictly memory care, it is small, all on one level, and everyone is trained in dementia. It is a nice, clean, pretty facility. Her room is very pleasant, it's large enough for everything that she needs, there's two chairs, a large dresser, a bed, and a nice-sized bathroom. The dealings I've had with the staff have all been excellent. The activities are very limited at the present time because of COVID, but I know they were having bowling in the halls when I went to take the tour.

My father-in-law is a resident of Brookdale Eagan. They have been really good. We had difficulty finding a place for various reasons, but this is an Alzheimer's/dementia care place, so they take care of him and we are satisfied. The staff members have been very good. The room is adequate. It is a little on the smaller side, but it is just enough for his needs. As expected in a place like this, they don't have a shower for the residents, and they do the showering in the spa to reduce the risk of falls, but otherwise, there is enough room for a bed, a TV, and a table. For their model room, it was a live virtual room, but for this specific room, it was just pictures, and then they shared some more photos after we had the furniture dropped off. We couldn't go into the facility. Later on, we visited him in their courtyard, and we were separated by a plastic thing. The courtyard visit was fine. It was in the smaller courtyard, but there's a green space with tables and chairs. They had put two tables put together with an awning for shade, and we wore masks. They have a larger courtyard with trees and greenery, but we only virtually toured that one. It was a recorded virtual tour. We don't have a lot of experience with the place, but so far they have been pretty helpful. They're a very good staff. They do a good job with regards to the facility. Normally they have outings in non-COVID areas. In other words, before COVID came along, they had outings and such, but there are various activities they can stil do according to their calendar.

The staff at Brookdale Eagan was wonderful and knew what they were doing. There were approximately 45 units in there, and it's nice that it's all on one level. The right and left sides were mirror images of each other and the middle was set up like a little town. They had a community area and the people were watching the Kentucky Derby when we were there and they were all wearing derby hats. They work with Lifetime Fitness and they give the residents something to do or some kind of a purpose or job. The place was very clean and very nice, but we were looking for a much smaller place. The room was very nice and you can set it up however you like. It's a fine size room and it has a private bathroom. There is no shower in the bathroom because it can get dangerous for the residents to be on their own. They have showers in a separate room and there's staff members that go with them.
