Meadowlark Retirement Village

My father is in Meadowlark Retirement Village. All of the staff there are very caring and engaged. All of the residents are happy and well cared for. It's a little bit older facility but well cared for with a lot of accessibility for every level of mobility. It's more institutional-looking, but the staff and the care make up for anything that the ambiance lacks. The food is very good, but they aren't prepared particularly for people who have problems with their teeth. My father is having trouble with his teeth and they don't have a soft food selection. That's the only problem. It is set up very well and it is very, very clean. It probably could use a little sprucing up, but I'd rather they put money into the care and the food, so I guess that's a breakeven. The activities are well thought out and good for all levels of mobility and ages, and for men or women. Everyone, from the sales representative and director, down to the cleaning staff, is engaged with all of the residents. It's a smaller facility and the staff-to-patient ratio is better than any other I looked at. They interact with all the residents every day. They know their residents by name. Even the cleaning staff knows their name. They know what they like. They bring them little things. They're all very engaged. The staff is wonderful.

Meadowlark Retirement Village is very friendly. It's very well-decorated with seasonal things. They have a chalkboard that has messages of inspiration on it. There is a nice little mail area and laundry. It's just a really cute, quaint place. Everybody's friendly and nice. Everybody always says hi to you in the hall. It's just like being in a community, and that was one of the reasons we chose it for my mom. She moved in this month, and she's in independent living. The staff is phenomenal. They are just always checking on her and looking after her. They know everybody's name in the hall. It's an older building that they're working on refurbishing. She was able to get a room with a bathroom that has just been redone with a senior safety shower with hand grips and the ruffled bottom. It makes it completely safe for her to climb in and out. They are making some improvements to make it a little nicer. It is an older building, but very well-maintained. She just loves the fun fitness. They have music twice a week, and they have bingo. Monday through Friday is just full of events. It fills their social schedule. Considering that I got price quotes from a couple of different places, it's a good value for me. Some of the other communities in the area, although they're newer, are much more expensive. This one, it's got more of a hometown flair. I would say it's reasonably priced for what you get.

Please do not consider taking your family member here if they have Alzheimers. After being told they could care for my brother we were served eviction papers in just 2 months! Why would they add on a SPECIFIC unit to handle the care for dementia patients then evict him because they didn't feel they could properly care for him. We had only been under Hospice care for a month and were in the process of tweaking medications when we were served papers. Even their parent company Porter Hills would not return our calls!

Mom has been in Meadowlark for a little over a month now for rehab. It's been wonderful, and my mother is happy. It's a very beautiful place, and they're very caring. They have apartments with a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, and a bathroom. The bedroom is open. They have singing, Bingo, painting, and they're very happy there.

Mom has settled in at Meadowlark Retirement Village. She liked the fact that the place was very friendly and clean. It smelled good when we walked in. It was light colored, bright, and sunny. The people were friendly, and they had what my mother needed as far as assistance to live there. It was more reasonably priced compared to some that we looked at, and it was also close to me.

My mother went into Meadowlark Retirement Village for a couple of weeks when my husband and I went on vacation. She really liked it there. So when she started getting bad, she said she wanted to go back there. The staff is wonderful, the place is nice and clean, very well-kept and it doesn't smell like a nursing home. I ate a couple of times with my mother and I thought the food was excellent. But I think the price is a little bit high. I guess all nursing homes is quite high. Other than that, everything is good. I can't find anything negative about them.
