I am/was a resident of this facility

My wife and I lived in a villa at Independence Village Of Plymouth for more than a year while she fought Parkinson's. It was a caring community that not only provided housing and meals, but a sense of community that made a real difference in our journey. Our time there was just what we needed. As my wife declined and we needed to try alternative living arrangements, the staff there bent over backwards to help with finding the right setting. Later, as my wife began to lose her connection with day to day life, the staff helped us locate and visit possible settings appropriate to her needs. They didn't have to do all this extra work, but they did it from their hearts. The staff and administrators provided a safe and friendly atmosphere with support and direction for us when we were in the most need. I will fondly remember my time there the rest of my life. RM

My mother has been at Independent Village for three years. Our family has been extremely grateful we have found such a perfect place for her. The entire staff from administration, entertainment to housekeepers and laundry services are very personable and caring. My mother hated the idea of moving so we got her the two bedroom unit with huge windows overlooking Edward Hines Park. As time has gone on, mom has required additional services such as personal hygiene, extra laundry services, medication assistance and all are thoughtfully done by the Laurus workers.

Provider Response

Hi Janis, thank you so much for sharing your experience with our community! We are thrilled to hear that your mom has found a perfect home with us. Our team is dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to all of our residents, and we are glad that your family has felt that firsthand.

If you’re looking for a place for a relative, let me tell you Village of Plymouth (IVP) is the place. Every testimonial echoes our sentiment: good food, friendly, personable and caring staff, beautiful location, and lots of activities for those who are willing to venture out of their room. IVP also has many of the same additional amenities (beauty salon, therapy department, in-house caregivers, laundry service, additional storage, transportation, in-home doctor visits, etc.) as some of the larger facilities, for those who need them. Don’t let the fact that it was formally a hotel deter you from considering IVP, as it only means that the construction (concrete super-structure) is probably safer than others. Due to health reasons my wife and I recently had to move my sister from another independent living facility so she could be closer to us. My wife looked at over a dozen facilities. We were getting desperate as time was running out to move my sister, so on two occasions I almost signed a lease agreement, even though things didn’t quite feel right. Thank God that something came up to derail those choices. As the old saying goes, sometimes curses can be blessings. IVP was the last place my wife looked. The minute she walked into the building she had a strong feeling that IVP was the place for my sister (she was right). Also if you leave a voice mail message, send an email, or text IVP staff you WILL get a response; something that did not happen at my sister’s previous residence. One final note, I would like to point out that the lease agreement at IVP was far less onerous than the other two locations that were considered. While this is just my opinion, the way a lease agreement is written is an indication of management’s style. My impression, management is NOT just focused on the bottom line.

We chose Independence Village of Plymouth for my parents-in-law because of the price. They are substantially more affordable than others. They had recently won a prize for the quality of their kitchen. We liked the flexibility within the kitchen because we talked about dietary limitations and they were like, "We'll figure it out." Also, the interaction with the representative was very, very good. She knew everything and had reasonable answers to every question that we could come up with. It is a somewhat older facility. It was formerly a hotel, but we saw that the rooms were well done. The combination basically of our experience while touring, a lot of the answers that were given that were very satisfactory, and then the reputation that they have in Plymouth were the reasons why we chose them. We put a downpayment and we're now waiting for a suitable place to become available. We would pay about $5000 to $6000 a month, which is still a lot of money. You can find much nicer places and more up-to-date, but you're going to be close to $10,000. Here also, we pay per apartment, so that's dual occupancy. At some other places, you pay $7000 or $8000 for one person and then another $1800 or so for a second person. The cost starts to become a profit model rather than a support model. The staff was extremely knowledgeable to the point practical with a lot of valid experience. It is an older place, but it's a place that my in-laws feel more comfortable in. It is not super posh. You don't have to get super dressed up to go for dinner. It is a good compromise between quality and appearance.

Provider Response

Hello, Thank you for your review. We are thrilled your parents have decided to move into our community! From our experience in the senior living industry, we have found that the age of the building matters far less than the experience provided by the staff. We are pleased that you enjoyed our team so much that you chose Independence Village as a home for your parents. If you have any questions, please call the community and ask to speak with the Executive Director. Thank you!

Independence Village of Plymouth was wonderful. It was a very nice facility. The representatives were great. The activities, the rooms, everything was very good. I met with an associate community specialist by the name of Adam and he was very informative. He spent a lot of time with me and wanted to get to know my father. Even offered to come for an ice cream social and to come for a happy hour. I thought the rooms were very nice. The activities were wonderful. I thought it was a very, very nice and warm place. We talked about pricing, and I thought that was within the ballpark. The food was very nice. They were high quality and there's lots of selection. They would take you to stores. They had music. It was very upbeat and very positive. Everybody was very friendly. The staff seemed to know all of the residents by name. Residents knew the staff by name.

We went today to the Independence Village of Plymouth. We looked there at the cottages. They had 16 outside of the building. They were very nice. They were able to show us a two bedroom inside the main building also. And they were very comfortable. And we did like the cottages, but we just don't know whether that's what we want or not at this point. The cottages were less priced than the high-rise part of the building. The staff was very knowledgeable. They had breakfast and dinner. There was no lunch served up, they could go to lunch, but you'd have to pay on your own to go to lunch. Lunch was not included in your monthly base pay. But you did have to work from the cottage outside, and it would take you three or 4 minutes to walk from the cottage to where the dining room is. There was a group of residents playing video bowling games, where you aim the thing and play with the bowling ball. We saw the beauty shop and we saw where the library was. There was a library on all three floors. But we spent most of our time out at the cottages.

My overall experience of Independence Village of Plymouth was excellent. The person that gave us the tour, Adam, was friendly, helpful, and thorough. The facility was very clean. I have positive feelings about the community. The studio apartment had a bedroom-living room. The bathroom was nice. It had a refrigerator, cupboards, and a closet, and it was very clean. You're allowed to put anything on the walls like any kind of electronics you want to invest in. There's an elevator to get around. The staff was very friendly and very nice. Everybody acknowledged everybody in the hallway. The food was delicious, and there was a wide variety of choices. The dining area was large, bright, and overlooking the woods. It's clean, and the wait staff was extremely accommodating and friendly.

My mom chose to move to Independence Village Plymouth on her own about eight years ago. She has a studio apartment, which is perfect for her needs. She loves that she may choose to participate in activities if she likes, but there is no pressure put on her to join in. She has always been highly complementary of the food / dining room. My mom has made many good friends and literally tells me every week how happy she is to be there. IVP was also great during Covid, keeping the families of residence informed of protocols and Covid outbreaks, of which there weren’t really any.

We had our Mother in IV for 3 years, the care and love she received from the staff was incredible, we have experience with another Independent/Assisted living facility and it does not even come close to IV. I would highly recommended IV to anyone looking for a great independent living location. The folks at Laurus Health Care we incredible too as moms health was starting to fail they took great care of her and went over and beyond by visiting when they were not scheduled too, just to say hi and check in. The room she was in was very nice, they have many activities, hair solon, nail solon, in house medical staff.

My mother and father live in the Villas. The food is top notch (especially the monthly brunches!). The executive director,Debbie, really takes the time to make meaningful connections with all of the residents. My parents were nervous to move but Debbie made them feel like part of a big family and now they couldn't be happier. My day has early onset dementia and needs personal care. The caregivers are always professional, helpful, and understanding, even when we need extra, unscheduled help.

After touring Plymouth Independence Village a few years ago, my family member decided there was no reason to tour other facilities. She is happy with her apartment, and speaks highly of all staff, from maintenance, housekeeping, food service, right up to the director Debbie. She participates in many activities such as exercise, book club, knitting, Bible study, etc. She also enjoys much of the entertainment activities that are offered. While maintaining her independence, she also benefits socially. When visiting her, we are always greeted pleasantly by staff, and we have had the piece of mind that our family member is in good hands.

My dad has been at IVP for several months now. He enjoys how happy and friendly the staff and residents are to each other. He has made friends and is tired every day because there is always something to do. The only negative is the food has been inconsistent. But I highly recommend this place, if your family member/s are pretty independent. I shopped around and this a perfect fit!

Provider Response

Hello, Thank you for your review. We are so happy your dad is enjoying the amazing culture we have worked so hard to build at Independence Village of Plymouth. We have really high standards and it is not always easy finding a person who values that culture as much as we do. We have been on the hunt for a Executive Chef that embodies those qualities and we just recently found that somebody. We do apologize that the food quality has been inconsistent but we have high hopes that you will soon be impressed with improvements our new Executive Chef will be making. In the future if you have any culinary feedback our new Executive Chef would be happy to hear your recommendations. Thank you.

Independence Village Plymouth recently hosted a week long "Village Voyager Cruise Week" inside the Living Facility. Each day was packed with an incredible variety of Cruise Theme activates, snacks, treats and dinners. The employees and staff at the Independence Village Plymouth created very safe, very clean and welcoming 5-star experience for all the residents. Families were even included on some of the events. Dolphin Rides, Wildlife Safari, Captain Dinner .... and many, many more. What is even more amazing is that the staff and employees make sure every day the residents are the top priority. The safety and cleanliness at the Independence Village Plymouth always reflects professional care.

Independence Village of Plymouth was a little higher priced than the other place I visited. The location of the facility probably warranted a little bit higher price. They had movie nights and the bus would take you to where you wanted to go. They would go out for Cider Mills or restaurants or something like that. They had exercise rooms and common/living areas on the floor, they had various groups that would meet at certain days of the week that you could be involved in, and games like bingo or euchre. The apartments were a good size and they were well kept, clean, and looked updated. The facilities generally looked like they were taken care of well.

We moved my 95 year old mother in law into Independence Village of Plymouth (March 2021) after looking at several options in the area and this was by far the best place/value we found. My mother in law's room is in a cute one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. She enjoys not cooking any longer, but she like to have the option of keeping snacks/coffee pot in the kitchen. The housekeeping staff keeps the rooms and facility very clean! Another bonus is they wash towels and bedding for the residents and they can also wash clothes. ALL of the staff are very friendly and know everyone by name. They work hard to make sure the residence have a good time with weekly calendars packed with lots of options like...games, live entertainment, happy hour, excursions, transportation to church and stores, crafts, and fun "themed days". They are very creative and do their jobs with lots of caring and enthusiasm! Prior to living here my mother in law no longer drove and lived alone in her home. She now has a sense of independence, has made many of new friends and feels very safe and cared for.

My mom recently moved from IPV Plymouth to an assisted living arrangement when she required more services than IPV is set-up to provide. She was at IPV for almost ten years and loved living there. It is a very nice facility, well kept, good food, not too big, and not too small. The staff were always friendly and responsive. Most of all she loved the social life and the various activities that were regularly on the schedule; especially the music programs that seemed to happen several times a week. The majority of tenants are female, especially on her floor. I referred to it as The Sorority. The ladies always looked after and cared for each other. We will sorely miss IPV Plymouth and fondly remember my mom's time there. I highly recommend the facility for seniors who don't want to be at home alone or living with family, but are not ready for an assisted living arrangement.

My late mother resided here for 4 years after dad passed. As mom could no longer care for herself they were there in every aspect providing for all her needs including hospice. The executive director of the community is an exceptional leader. I am very grateful to the entire staff for the excellence they delivered during mom’s final years and in particular during a pandemic.

My mom has been at Independence Village of Plymouth for almost 5 years. She has really enjoyed the facilities and activities. But most of all she loves the staff! They are all so friendly and attentive. She has been involved in book club, choir (pre covid), New resident orientation and even food reviews. She loves the guest musicians. There are frequently fun events including Happy Hour, classic cars, picnics, Halloween costume parties and much more! I would recommend Independence Village of Plymouth to anyone looking for a nice place to allow a loved one to live independently or assisted. The indepent rooms are nice and have a kitchenette which includes full size refrigerator and range. Both units my mom has been in has space for a small dining table and chairs and some living room furniture in addition to bedroom(s) There is plenty of storage in the units and residents can have additional storage in the basement. Overall, I think this is an excellent place for people to live!

In January 2020 my brother and I spent much time researching and visiting places for our 95 yr. old Dad. our first time at Independence Village of Plymouth, we knew our search was over. We had found a place for our Dad and signed the papers immediately. This place is beautiful, clean with a warm atmosphere. His studio apartment fits his needs perfectly. The staff is very friendly, patient, compassionate, and attentive. The availability of an on-site health care for administrating medications, help with showers and any future needs was a must for us and this has worked out very well. There are many outings and activities for residents. Our Dad is not very social, but the staff encourages him without pressure. The food has been excellent with ups and downs through the pandemic. They are always striving to keep it at a high level. We are very fortunate that he moved here before the pandemic. They have done everything possible to keep the residents safe and secure. During this time they have delivered meals to rooms, done extra laundry and cleaning. Helping families communicate and delivering packages to residents. The communication to families has been excellent and they always answer your calls or get back to you promptly. We feel fortunate that our Dad lives at Independence Village of Plymouth and now calls it home.

The entire facility from the management on down down are first class. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The staff always has a smile on their faces, even working through the tough times of Covid 19. Dad adjusted to his new environment very easily and he enjoys the food as well. Whenever dad calls for assistance, someone is there to help. We needed assistance from Lauras and it also went very smoothly. Being in business for over 40 years, these are the type of people I want to deal with. My dad and our family definitely feel we made the right decision on him moving to Independence Village.

My initial visit to Independent Village was August of 2020. My parents were at a point where they needed more than what their home could provide. The staff at our meeting and since my parents moved in have been incredible. They are engaging, happy, and very good with the residents. The rooms are well designed and functional. My parents are very active and enjoy the exercise classes, wii bowling, bingo, and enjoyable craft days and many more fun event days that are created by the amazing staff. The traveling cart daily is always a very welcome surprise. Dinners that are created daily by a chef (always keep dietary restrictions in mind) have been a joy to my mother since she spends a lot of time with my father who needs braces and a wheelchair to get around. One last note is the security of Independent Village. My parents sleep very well at night knowing they are safe and secure and if they need assistance, they can call the front desk or pull the cord. Now when my parents and I talk, they always have something exciting to speak about and I can hear the joy in their voices. It has been a terrific experience since they moved in. I also have gotten to know many of the staff and they always bring a smile to my face.

My dad has lived at Independence Village Plymouth for over five years. He moved from Oregon to Michigan to be closer to family after my mother passed away. We looked at a variety of residences for him but IVP had the vibe of “home.” Very clean, well appointed with a fire in the hearth as we walked in to tour that winter day. Debbie H. welcomed us warmly and took time in showing us the property. In the final decision, my father chose Independence Village because he felt welcome there. “They want me there,” he said. My dad continues to feel valued for the person he is to this day. He sings in the choir. He attends exercise classes. Because of this community he’s an active weightlifter, will be participating in a Veterans Honor Flight and has made many friends. There are numerous brand spanking new retirement residences popping up but Independence Village offers a homey atmosphere and caring staff that can’t be duplicated.

My visit at Independence Village of Plymouth was nice, and the staff was excellent. It's an older place, about 30 to 40 year old, and it's a converted Hilton. You can tell by the layout, although it's not good or bad. It's not as nice as the newer community we also visited, and they didn't have the really nice restaurants there, but the way they structure things is the same as the other community. It looked like the main meal would be pretty good. One of the things I didn't like is that it's on the main road, and the apartment that was available opened up right on the parking lot. It's just a small parking lot with a road across, so her small dogs could sneak out and there might be trouble there. Other than that, I don't think there's anything else they can improve; they're good enough.

Independence Village of Plymouth is the best one we walked into. It is basically an old Hilton Hotel that's been converted to senior living. The staff is excellent. They're long-term people. The pricing is very good. I walked in on Thursday and signed a lease the following Thursday. That day, they had exactly what I wanted. It is a complete apartment. I'm very pleased with it. So far I'm loving every minute of it. They have excellent food and cleanliness. The menu changes everyday. You have five items daily, which changes from week to week, and then two meals that are alternatives for the day, which are also different everyday of the week. They have an exercise program and Bingo. They have everything you want. They have exercises in the mornings and field trips. It is just a very active place.

I was really pleased with Independence Village. It had two or three levels and lots of activities, and was well organized and well decorated. They had a large dining room where we had lunch. They had a movie room, an exercise room, and an activity room. What turned us off was there was nowhere to walk to, and my husband needs to go out and walk. Also, the price was too high for our income. They had nice one- and two-bedroom apartments.

I visited this facility

Independence Village of Plymouth was wonderful and really nice. The amenities and what they had to offer were great, and I didn't find anything that I disliked about it. The follow-up was also good. They had options for independent living or if you need additional care. The layout plans of the apartments were based upon your needs as well as in-house care, like cleaning, transportation needs outside of the facility, breakfast and dinner, and activities at least four times a week. The overall program and everything they had to offer was wonderful. They also had respite care if you need it, a doctor and nurse on staff, and VA benefits if you're eligible. It was great and everything seemed to be in order.

Everything abot Plymouth Independence Village is very nice, and I do not have any issues with anything. Everybody is very friendly. The rooms are clean and roomy with nice, big bathrooms for the handicapped. I have not eaten there, but I have been down there with my family while they eat, and everything looks fine. They have bingo, and they have people who come in and sing. They have a choir, and they have a lot of things to do. The security is good. There is always somebody at the reception desk, and you cannot go in any of the side doors without a special code card to go in.

We found Independence Village of Plymouth, and we like it very much. It was a very uplifting place. We walked in that place, and it felt good. We also liked that they have a choir. They have all kinds of trips, and they travel within the 10-mile limit for doctors and other things. It is also very convenient.

Plymouth was excellent, and it’s a beautiful place. I have to have some place that is medically licensed. The staff was excellent. I went there during lunch time, and they were very happy to take care of us and show us around, and we spent quite a while there. It is a very nice and lovely place. I did go into one of the rooms; it’s a very lovely place, and it’s probably one of the better places around.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We found a place in Plymouth called Independence Village that has non-assisted and assisted living facilities. I thought it has good services, and the folks seem genuinely interested in taking care of folks who need assistance. The rooms are nice, and the daily services are good. They are responsive to my aunt's requests, and they seem very attentive to her needs. They have their meals, and they have a lot of activities. It keeps people busy and interested. That is important to us so that she's not by herself all the time. I think their services are fine. I don't have enough experience in assisted living, but it seems for my aunt it's been working out fine. We haven't experienced any issues there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law is in Plymouth. We chose it because of its proximity to my home, and it has a balcony with a nice view. I am somewhat impressed with the staff. The apartment is beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The dining room is also beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The food is pretty good, and the staff in the dining room is also pretty good. They have a lot of various activities like concerts, games, and crafts. My only complaint in this place is that they don't have very good in-take procedures, so they can improve on that.

I visited this facility

I went to Plymouth Independence Village, but they didn't meet our needs because I needed more care for my father. It was beautiful. It used to be a hotel before. It was very nice. The dining area was like going to a banquet or wedding reception. It was laid out nicely. The menu was set up just like at a hotel. They had it on the table written nicely. This place was very clean. The staff was nice. However, I didn't feel that it was safe enough only because it was too big. They had activities, like Wii games.
